  1. I'm gonna say different deer, first deer seems to be moving on out while the other more up.
  2. Wow, thats terrible. When did this happen? I think that is a great idea, i recognize the handle.
  3. Seeing them regularly around here.
  4. Thats awesome! Thanks for sharing!
  5. Plan on ordering a set of Bucknasty's soon. . . . . i've seen some of his work and never heard a negative thing about it so thats the direction i'm going. . . . .
  6. Another small glimpse of how it folds down and how the grass folded into the boat for traveling, so . . . . still not a good pic for the blind.
  7. Sounds like you're wanting to do a little something like this. . . . it was a "do it yourselfer" we had on the old boat a couple years ago. I've lost some of the pics i once had uploaded on it but heres what i've got, you can probably get the framework of what we did. This is the frame. . . . . we put grass mats on the frame during the season, the lshort support bars are leaned on screw heads on the cross bars so we had 3 different adjustments on how high we wanted the front for diff. situations. You lifted them over the screw heads and the mats folded inside the boat and the blind folds flat against the rails. We also put the drop down section on the back cross bar b/c we ran it with a long tail mud motor. You can kind of see how it's lays flat once the support bars are removed in this pic.
  8. We just cant get any rain, my buddies dad who farms the whole place for cotton is considering collecting crop insurance from what he's already planted (200ac) b/c nothing is going to make. . . .absolutely a desert.
  9. I've used expandable heads for the past 7 or 8 years and hevent found any that wont get the job done. I've used Vortex 2-blade, Spitfires, and now Rocket Hammerheads. I've always wanted the big cutting diameter and field point like flight and have gotten from it all of those heads. Penetration has never been a problem either with complete pass throughs on deer and busted spines and shoulder bone also. This year i'm planning a trip out west for Elk so i'm questioning making a switch after i do some investigating on the effectiveness of expandables on big game such as elk. Plan on doing alot of bow tuning starting soon with a new string and rest so now may be the time to experiment. We'll see. . . .
  10. Sounds like it was definately the trip of a lifetime!! Congrats on the white tipped beauties, man they almost make a Merriam's tips look dirty!! Way to Go!
  11. Last year we had a better than average shoot for a first year field. The field was only about 3 acres in size and we planted browntop millet and sunflowers in strips. Both did well although the sunflower needed another couple weeks to die and drop seeds, we had to plant the seed late b/c of the lack of rain. . . same situation we're running into this year. Another problem we ran into last year was the deer devoured alot of the sunflowers before they got up high enough to be ignored. This year we're expanding the field to be about 5 acres and will definately stick with the browntop millet and plan to put in some sunflowers again too, but my question is do you think it would be benefical to mix the sunflowers with grain sorghum? I believe the grain sorghum will mature quicker in case the sunflowers are a little late again and i dont think the deer with be quite so tough on the young plants. So i'm looking at rows of browntop millet and rows of pervaso (sp?) sunflowers w/ grain sorghum. Sound like a winner or will the sorghum sunflower mix not work? Appreciate the input.
  12. You been able to figure it out yet? if you run into trouble let us know and we'll get ya through it!
  13. Agreed lj . . . . anyone still gotta season that open?
  14. Ah man thats awesome!! I'll go ahead and start the list of congrats!! Glad you're able to get to the forums from way over there and give us and update! Look forward to the story and pics!!
  15. Seems like i saw at least one mommy with babys every trip the last 3 weeks of the season, more poults than i've ever seen. . . . hopefully thats a good sign!
  16. Well turkey season's out the door and already i've began to start dreaming of early geese settin' up right in a cut corn field. Of course i'm doing my part in getting the food plots in for the pine goats and trickin' the bow out with the new accessories but my mind never settles on deer like it does winged ones!! We've got the ground prepared and have had our fingers crossed for several weeks waiting on the rain to put in the millet and sunflowers for the dove but the weather aint cooperating at all.
  17. Congrats on the new pup!! I'm sure she'll have the opportunity to see alot of action this upcoming year!!
  18. Wish we could get enough rain to wet the dirt and stop some of the dust. We're waiting on the rain to get our seed in the ground, wish it'd hurry up!
  19. You have nothing to worry about. . . . turkeys arent good at remembering isolated incidents such as these but may if the situation happens repeatedly. He will likely be in the same place and may be willing to play the game again. Missing a bird doesnt make them uncallable or unkillable. Couple instances. . . 2 years ago: My dad's first bird, called in 2 hard gobbling longbeards right off the stick and he missed at 15 yards. The very next week off of the same setup tree, birds roosted in the same tree. . . . came gobbling hard off the roost and he killed them both in one shot. Last year: Last day of the season about an hour after flydown i missed a longbeard with a muzzleloader out of an old dove field. About 6 hours later he was back in the same field with a hen and a jake, he died about an hour before flyup.
  20. Its just a defect in the genes, called one for my buddy last year that had an 11 1/8" beard and no spurs what so ever. First i'd seen.
  21. I was able to connect on another Ga longbeard on the 12th . . . . . 11 3/8" beard and 7/8" spurs. They have completely shut down, like someone flipped the "off" switch.
  22. Good Luck south of the border!! Call too much and call too loud!!
  23. This season was as good as any i've ever had. . . . i've killed more birds in other years ( still got 3 more days ) but this year i was able to hit 3 different states for 3/4 of my slam. Made more lasting friendships and got my first longbeard with my bow. So far i've been able to watch 7 longbeards fall and perhaps i may luck up with one more before the 15th. So i voted for the best year option.
