  1. I do not have any information for you about "Outdoors Connection." I am using Bullseys Outfitters to book my next bear hunt. Just not sure where I am a going yet, leaning towards Sask. As for the gun that you are going to be shooting, you will have no problem. The 7mm is a great all around round.
  2. Those are nice looking bows, but what is with the pulleys and all those strings.
  3. I have not started building my blinds or stands yet. I am still working on getting my fields in order. But they are almost there.
  4. I will not be making it out this year. I am going to try to keep that weekend free for next year. Hopefully it works out.
  5. Congrats on the new longbow. I know what you mean about bringing archery hunting back to reality again. I started laast year and have not looked back yet, Nor will I... And Jim, you are not the only one. You have recieved yours already. I still have 11 more weeks.
  6. They are building one of those in NJ. It is part of the Zanadu project, in the Meadowlands area. I think it is just completely ridiculous.
  7. I shoot a Remington BDL SS DM 7mm STW w/ muzzlebrake. I love the gun. With the brake the gun kicks less than my .270. At present I shoot the regular old Remington 140gr Cor-Lokts. I have no problem putting 5 shots in a 4"group off a bipod at 300 yards. I am going to be making up a load using the Berger 168gr bullet later this summer or early fall. I am hoping to have that done by hunting season this year.
  8. I have to disagree with you on this one. I think bears have a stronger will to live. Bears will actually perform first aide on themselves if given the opportunity. I hit my bear in the heart and both lungs at 8 yards. My bear went 80-100yards and still had enough breathe to give out the death moan. As for the question about bullet weight, a good 180gr will get the job done. Plus with that weight you are more likely to break the front shoulder if you happen to hit it.
  9. I am getting a Bear's Paw Bow by Neil Jacobson. It is a 64" takedown set at 56# @ 28". The wood combo is Winewood riser with Red Elm limbs.
  10. Sweet looking bow. I have to wait 13 more weeks for my take-down longbow to be done.
  11. I question for the men and women that shoot longbow or recurves. I presently shoot a right helical fletch out of a right hand longbow., 52# @ 28". I was thinking of fletching some lefts to see how they shoot, but not really up to spending the time to do it. So the question is, what helical do you shoot? Thank you
  12. In regards to your question about the quality of Taurus handguns. A couple of years back Guns and Ammo mag did an article on the Taurus .357 revolver. At the end of the article the conclusion of them was that they would give you "357 reasons why to consider a Taurus."
  13. I am all for the bow hunting. Plus in early November you get the best of the pre-rut action.

    New Bow!!

Congrats to the new order. I like JimPic am also waiting for a new longbow, but mine will not be here till end of September. Just wondering as to why you shoot different set-ups for target and hunting?
  15. That is one of the reasons that I only use Burris on all my guns.
  16. My vote would be for a nice custom made takedown longbow. Bear's Paw archery is a good place to start looking for the longbow.
  17. With the standard ammo that Federal, Winchester, or Remington sells I would agree 100% that 100yards is max. But if your gun likes the Hornady you have extended your range out to 200yards, as long as you practice at that distance before hitting the woods. According to the Hornady site the LeverEvolution ammo is still carrying over 1200 ft/lbs of energy at 200yards. That is more than adequate energy to provide a lethal hit.
  18. I have been using my trusty Marlin 336 .30-30 for several years now. I love the gun. I have the gun topped with a Burris 2-7x. As of late I have been shooting the Hornady ammo. I have yet to shoot an animal with the Hornady yet, but have shot it at the range out to 200 yards. At 200 yards I can put 5 shots in a pie plate using my shooting sticks. I have taken a few animals at under 50 yards with the Remington 170 grain. None of my deer went more than 50 yards after being hit.
  19. This past weekend I headed up to NY, outside Morris, to look at some land that my girlfriend's parents' own. We started out by looking for a spot to camp on the land for the night. It was a fun trip, especially with the Jeep. The good news is I did see several turkeys and two bucks on the property. In the area I saw deer in just about every field I went by. The land is about 17 acres. It is set up in a V by two roads. It is a little tight for the rifle, but look out archery season. Here are some pics of getting in to camp. Here is getting ready for the hook. Here is me on the hook. Me splitting wood.
  20. What 3-D deer target do you shoot? Pros/Cons? I am looking for a target for the backyard. I am not worried about price, as long it is of good quality.
  21. I ordered my Bear's Paw bow today. It is a longbow takedown made from winewood riser with red elm limbs. The specs will be 64" 56#@28". Neil let me know that there is a 18 week build time right now. It is going to be along wait, but worth it.
  22. 15 more weeks here in NJ.
  23. I know that in NJ you have to consent to a full medical background check in order to get your firearm purchasers card, initial card takes @ 3-6 months. Everytime I want to buy another handgun I have to apply for a handgun permit, application time @ 3weeks to 3 months. But to buy a long gun, as NJ refers to them, you do not have to update you mental state or purchasers card. I personally do not have a probelem with this. Being I know that I am of sound mind and body, as far as they know. I could see how alot of people would have a problem with this though. It is change for many. In NJ this has been standard practice for many, many years. I got my first purchasers card at 18y/o, I am now 34y/o. Everytime I move I have to apply for a new card within the municipality, which means full medical and police background checks. But it is what I have grown up doing.
