Re: My biggest archery buck Congrats on one fine looking buck

Re: 12 does - do i take one??? I would shoot one now. Then the next time I had a shot I would shoot another. 12 does in a herd alone is too many. I would look for the older does that are not producing offspring or a young doe that is just going into her first esterus cycle. If you keep that many does around they will actually be competing for food that the buck needs to get his protein to grow bigger. I am not saying shoot all of them, but a couple would not hurt at all.

Re: Found a hurt doe. If I see an injured deer in the woods I do not hesitate to take the shot. It is just upsetting to me to see a deer suffering, especially if the injured was hunting related.

Re: Traditional Question In the yard I practice out to 25 yards. In the woods set my feeder up at 13 yards. This way I know I am well inside my comfort range. As for arrows I shoot Gold Tip Trad. 5575 topped with 125 grains G5 Montecs. The arrow does fly slower than your compound. But, it shoots a heck of alot more quiet than your compound.

Re: The Longbow connects (pic) Here is another pic of his antlers. If you look close at his left side base, he started to grow a second main beam.

Re: The Longbow connects (pic) [ QUOTE ] Did you try alot of different arrows before settling with the GT's? I'm having a harder time getting a good arrow for my longbow. [/ QUOTE ] The GT was the only arrow I tried. But, I did try many different grain heads before settling in with the 125's. The 100's were kinda erractic with alot of handshock.

Re: The Longbow connects (pic) [ QUOTE ] Are you shooting Gold Tip carbons there? Did you add weight tubes? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, I am shooting Gold Tip Arrows. I shot 5575 @ 29.5" topped with 125 G5 Montec's. I did not add any weight to the arrows. I did add a set of the small Limbsavers to the limbs of the bow though.

Re: The Longbow connects (pic) Well I know this is a bit late, but I never did add the story: I got up in the tree about 4:30, sunset was 6:30. At about 5:15 I had my spike come in, I see him everyday. He slowly worked his way from apple tree to apple tree browsing. At about 6:30 I had the spike's brother come out into the field for some dinner. About 5 minutes after he walked out the two bucks kept looking into the corner above my stand. And next thing I see is the 6-ptr poke his head out from the headrow. It took him about 2-3 minutes to make his way to the base of my tree, I have the best apples. Once under me I waited for the broadside shot. As he came to broadside I drew back. I think the 3-ptr saw me move, so he jumped. When I released the arrow the 6-ptr jumped also. When he jumped he actually turn quartering away from me. The arrow buried behind the rib cage and went into his opposite front shoulder. When he ran off it looked as though I made a bad shoot due the where I saw the fletching on his body. I ended up easing out of the stand and going back up at 5am before work. Well he only went about 50 yards before piling up into a tree.

Re: The Longbow connects (pic) [ QUOTE ] BTW, how far was he? [/ QUOTE ] I shot him at 15 yards. I was about 15 feet in the air, to my feet.

Well it is not the biggest buck I ever shot, but it is the first with the new longbow. This is my first season with the new bow, I love it.

Re: Scope for .30-30 lever action I use a Burris Short Mag 2x-7x. It runs about $230 for the scope. The light transfer on Burris is amazing. Plus it is pretty light weight.

Re: Rubber gloves I wear gloves. For two reasons. I know of people that have gotten bitten by a tick while gutting. And the other reason is I am allergic to deer hair. I guess that part is the deer revenge on me.

Re: doghouse blind I had a Doghouse, traded it for a Stackhouse. I like the Stackhouse better simply because you can stand up in it. Plus, I shoot a longbow so I need the extra height. The only thing that I do not like about it, which would go for any hunting tent. I do not like to be at eye level with the deer. And that is the only thing I do not like about it.

Re: How do you aim ? I chose option 4, but then again I shoot a longbow.

Re: Checking in Deer? A deer check in station in NJ, WV, and ME. I also hunt NY, there you have to call DNR within 48 hours of harvesting your game.

Re: lets see some pictures of your bows Here is my Deathwish longbow and game recovery rig.

Re: I got one opening weekend!! Congrats

Re: antalope in wy Well being you have the license, a place to hunt, and rifle. The only other thing I could think of is a really good set of optics and possibly a spotting scope. You will be looking a good ways off at a fairly small animal. Good luck.

Re: Cop killer on the loose in NY I have alot of friends that are police officers. They have a tough enough job without something like this going on. My thoughts go out to their families.

Re: D Loop When you buy new loops they usually have instructions on how to tie the knot. It is a pretty basic knot. If you buy it at the local sport shop you could have them put it on and ask to watch so you know how to do it next time. In the past I have put these on my compounds, the Knotless Loop. I love them. Never had one wear out on me. But, you will need a bow press to install it or have your local shop do it for you.

Re: ELK Double Lung and broadhead weight On all the reading I have done around the net on penetration and kinetic energy, arrow weight is the key. For me I look for the tad heavier arrow and then it leaves my options open on head weight. Last year I switched to the Max-4's by Beman. I always, til this year, used Thunderhead 100's. By switching the weight of the arrow my penetration was amazing.
