  1. Flintlock1776 Where exactly in NW NJ do you hunt?
  2. Saturday was opener for me here in this part of NJ. I decided to hold out and go Monday. Because I hunt alone and I have this fear of black bear, I decided to hit the woods later in the morning and just hang out the rest of the day. I made it to my new spot ( a hill of rocks about 20 yards from what appears to be a very active deer trail). In the afternoon, I hear slight leaf crunching. Right out from the deer trail pop 2 big does, always looking behind them. Right there I thought buck, pull back, hold and wait. A few seconds later, 2 very big black bears come out from behind me, about 10 yards away. I could smell them !! I didn't know what to do. If I were to let the bow down and reach for my spray, I'd most likely startle them, and I hear that's not a good thing. I had no choice but to hold on for a minute or so, finally they moved on. Does were gone,, I thought, take down a deer, field dress then drag it out of the woods, maybe not today, least not around here. Nothing exciting, but I thought it was worth sharing at least for a giggle. Going to try another WMA next week,,
  3. Last year I was called to jury duty, year before I had shoulder surgery, NOTHING STOPPING ME THIS YEAR!!! I am so ready !!!
  4. Hutchies is right, good targets that won't dissolve in the rain are'nt cheap. 10 to 15 all between 20 -27 is common. Hay bails here and there for backstop is not a bad idea. A small practice area at the beginning is a good idea. My 2 cents, Good Luck!!!

    Camo Arrows

I read something similar to that before, can't recollect. So I weighed my camo arrow (Easton XX75) vs a black arrow, difference was minimal. The camo is not even a wrap. I know cause I dip them in acetone before I refletch, camo never came off.
  6. Picked up a discount block target from Gander Mountain last year, but never got to use it. Started shooting at it a few weeks ago. I can shoot for hours. My real time out is making arrows,,Got a nice 3d shoot coming up soon, can not wait!!!
  7. Weather here in the Northeast has been way off. I see deer in backyards, a rarity in my part of NJ. Did some quick scouting last week out of curiousty, tracks and dropping everywhere, can't make heads or tails of where to hunt from. I hope I get a chnace to go out this year, last season was one ugly washout for me.
  8. I'll be waiting for the pictures!! Congrads and good luck!!!
  9. With my eyes, nothing over 20 yards, 30 yards is pushing it for me. I guess it al depends on where you hunt. My spot is in thick brush, along with some black bear, so a clearing over 20 yards is tough. Plus the least time you spend looking for the deer the better chance you'll find it in one piece
  10. If you like reading the mags, latest issue of Petersen's Bowhunting has a nice article on new sights for 2008, that with a copy of my favorite catalog usually helps me out Good luck !!
  11. I can understand the minimal difference between where you hit with a fieldf tip vs a BH, but agree with the guys, have it papertuned,
  12. I've been using the space saver bags for some time now. I picked up some scented dryer sheets from Walmart, stuck a couple in the bag. The first time, there was a slight plastic smell, but after the second run, smell went away. None the less, I still aired then out for a few days. But you can't beat taking up less space
  13. Onestringer all the way!! he made me some incredible wraps for my first set of carbons, best prices, nicest guy
  14. Hey all!!My bow season was a wash this year,so that ends that story. Anyway, I'm really interested in becoming a certified Hunter Safety Instructor (Bow hunting), if anyone has any advice, tips etc, like always, thanks in advance!! Ray

  20. They look cool, I owe him an email,,
  21. Yesterday afternoon I decided to step out for some air, driving by Dick's Sporting Goods, I decided, hey I might as well stop in, browse and pick up my NJ license. Now that's it's all computerized, it's pretty cool. No need to fill out all the papers. But not when the only person in the store to have "received training" doesn't know the difference between a license and a pair of hiking boots. It couldn't be easier, I gave her a copy of my last year's licenese, told her just give me the same. They even have a nice laminated paper behind the counter with all the codes. Punch in what the customer wants, check ID, out comes a bill and off you go. The winner I got yesterday kept insisting on permit first, then license. I told her it was the reverse, but after screwing up for about 20 minutes, she really wasn't open to my advice. No exaggeration, she must have printed up about 2 yards of useless tags. She finally got a manager, who let me explain it step by step, and after about an hour, I got my tags. A friend of mine told me Sports Authority is no better. Unreal,,, I hope you all out there don't have to go through this,, just wanted to vent,,
