What changes are you going to make for next bow season?
MUDRUNNER replied to RangerClay's topic in Bowhunting
I probably won't change a whole lot as far equipment goes. I did pick up a two man stand so that I can get my daughter out with me a few times next season. I'm also going to move some stands around a little more and spread them out. I think I tend to concentrate on one area too much. -
Man oh man! I was planning on making the last trip in '06 till I found out in April that my wife was pregnant with the boy. I would really like to make it this time. As of now I have an October pheasant trip planned for South Dakota. If that falls through for some reason (like it did last year) I'm going to try and make this for sure.

Like mentioned above, most of your protein needs to come from food. A protein supplement is great for taking directly after a workout though. I mix my vanilla or strawberry flavor with oats and milk. Chocolate whey gets a scoop of peanut butter in milk. I also drink one if I miss a meal for some reason, or am a little short on calories for the day. Those are generally the three flavors I stick with since I know what to expect with them flavors. I've tried Optimum Nutrition and Muscle Milk from Bodybuilding.com, EAS from Target, and Body Fortress from Wal Mart. All of them are decent, and taste fairly good. Been using the Body Fortress mostly the last few months, mostly just because Wal Mart is the only place in town to get whey and that's what they carry.

You might want to be sure it can handle a 3" shell. I have one about the same year and it's a 2 3/4" only. Mine doesn't like to eject todays really light loads like a 7 1/2 or 8 shot, but works fine with a #6 or heavier.

I'll admit...Kyle made a heck of a save and good pass on Tony. I still can't stand either one of the Busch brothers. Both of them seem to lack respect and have bad attitudes that really urkes me, and turned me off of NASCAR to an extent. Give me a dirt track anyday.

The wifes vehicle is a 2005 Suburban 4x4. It just rolled over 100,000 about a month ago. My truck is a 2003 F150 FX4 4x4. I should hit 100,000 here in a month or so. Getting ready to put on a suspension lift and bigger rubber here in the next few months. I was thinking about getting a bike this summer, but the wife has me talked into maybee getting a Wrangler so the whole family can go on weekend cruises.

That's funny...the exact same thing happened to me when my daughter started playing t ball a few years ago. One thing that urked me was parents not taking any time to to practice with the kids. We had team practice an hour every week, but you could tell the differance between kids who made it to practice every week and got some practice at home, and the kids that didn't come to practices and got no help from the parents at home. Half the team was only there because the parents wanted to give the kid something to do, and they could care less about ball.

It sounds like a bad situation for you any way you look at it. It sounds like he's trying to be the boss and dictate the things you do and how you feel. If hunting and fishing is part of who you are, then don't ever. let anybody take that away from you. In a solid relationship there is no boss. I would never tell my wife to stop doing something she enjoyed, and she would never do it to me. We are each our own person. My opinion......I think you could do better.

I believe that people can change if they want to. I was not always the fine outstanding gentleman you see here today;). I spent a lot of time in trouble, and looking back now I think it's fair to say I was pretty much a jerk through my teens and early 20's....especially toward women. That being said, I don't like liars or excuses. It sounds like he needs to man up and make a decision. I think people generally cheat when they are unhappy with the way things are, or what they've become. If that's the case some decisions need to be made. Can things be worked out and get back on track? That's a personal decision the couple has to make. I agree with Ben...if he's not happy and you can't trust him, then there's no point in stringing somebody alongin a reationship that's destined to fail.

I lift every other day, and occasionally hit the heavy bag. I get shin splints pretty bad, so I don't jog anymore. I start with heavy compound excersises, then finish with supersets or tabata intervals to get the heart rate up. I've only been doing it since I turned 30, so it's been about 5 years. I never touched a weight in my life until then. I'm in better shape now than when I was 25.

800 triple Mach Z was a fast sled! A buddy of mine had one back in the day. That thing would walk away from my 583 Formula Z. My dream vehicle would have to be a truck. Never was much of a car guy. Any brand new 3/4 ton rig with about 7" of lift and some 37's would be nice.

What draw weight do you shoot with your hunting bow?
MUDRUNNER replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Bowhunting
My bow is maxed out at 62 lbs. I shot 70 lbs. for years, but when I started shooting in a league I quickly decided to drop back to a 60 lb. bow. -
Yes sir! I was hoping you would get around to entering that bad boy before the deadline. Barring any other late entries it looks like we have it.

Sweet! Sounds like a blast! I actually just got back from Tampa yesterday. Hockey is actually suprisingly popular in Tampa. You should have some nice weather too. I've got Blues tickets for march 21'st. I try to take the family to two or three games a year, but like Shaun said...it's starting to get a little pricey.

Sweet Shaun! Sounds like a great road trip! I have several friends that go to Talledega almost every year, and they always have a blast.

My season sounds just about like everybody elses here in Illinois. Warm weather and wind made for a weak rut. I had two hunts in early November where deer movement was great, bucks were searching and opening up scrapes like crazy. Before and after that the does seemed to dissapear though, and chasing never really heated up. I hunted two weeks without even seeing a doe, and only a handful of bucks. I did manage a nice 8 with my bow, and a doe with the shotgun. Overall deer sightings and harvest numbers were down quite a bit where I hunt compared to last season.

He's a dandy for your first buck! Congrats!

Good info on the sugar beets Lynn! Maxi-rack has untreated sugar beet seed for $10 a lb. It would be nice if they were RR ready though. I only have a little over an acre all total that is clear ground for food plots. I might just add some radishes to my brassica/wheat mix that I've been using, and take like a 1/4 acre and plant sugar beets by themselves, just to see what happens. If it works...great. If not, I'm only out $20 in seed. I've had good luck with Shot Plot also. It just always seems like the deer hit it in September and February, and leave it alone the rest of the time.

Heck of a nice 6 pointer! 300 yards is a pretty good poke.

Congrats! It's always nice to put one down the first day of vacation and take the pressure off a little.

This place is kinda slow, so I thought I would ask if anyone has planted any forage radishes or sugar beets in their food plots. After putting food plots in for 5 or 6 years now, I'm still trying to figure out what the deer prefer in my area. I've planted a mixture of rape, turnips, and wheat for the past two years now. The deer seem to jump on my brassicas early and late. Unfortunatley it seems before bow season starts, and after it's over is when it gets hit the hardest. I never have seen a bulb pulled up and chewed on though. The wheat has seemed to help draw deer a little better in November and December, but still doesn't get hit as much as I would like. From what I've read sugar beets can be finicky and tough to grow. It seems like alot of people are having good reults with forage radishes though, and the deer seem to get on them before frost, and stay on them. Just wandering if anybody here has any first hand experience with beets or radishes here.

Cool man! No problem. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. It was a busy weekend.

Congrats Fly! You've had a pretty good season!
