  1. Boy, I don't know. As far as the late doe season being extended, I see big bucks killed every year that have dropped their horns. I think this change would make it worse. I really think the deer numbers are way down in Illinois right now anyways because of last years drought and EHD, and it may take a year or two for them to recover.I know on the farm that I hunt we took 8 deer between all the seasons so far, and usually by this time we have about 15.I would say even deer sightings in general were down about %50 on our place. I do like the otc firearm tag idea.It seems that they give everyone who applies one anyways. I don't know that extending the first season will make much of a differance, but it gives me a reason to take another day off work.
  2. That sounds identical to what i do till next season.I plan to do some serious scounting in February to scope out new stands locations for next year.Hopefully I can get the majority of the spots picked out and lanes trimmed before the spring green up. I usually shoot in a spring bow league too.
  3. I do most of my hunting in Madison and Montgomery counties.
  4. Sweet!Congrats Casey!He's a dandy buck.
  5. I still have about two weeks left to try and upgrade. I got skunked again yesterday, but did see a nice 8 pointer last Sunday, but he was to far for a bow shot.
  6. I personally thing GW did a decent job.In my lifetime, I can't remember any other president that had the magnitude of things to deal with that GW did. With 9-11,Katrina, and the war, he's had an uphill battle almost constantly. It's hard to really say what Gore or Kerry would have done differently and how things would have turned out. There's no doubt that there were some mistakes made, but overall I would consider his presidency a success also. I believe I read somewhere that out of his 8 years in office 6 of those years showed postitve economic growth....that doesn't seem too bad to me.
  7. Man, that's a tough break...especially towards the end of the season. Hopefully he gets another crack at him.
  8. The Bruins are looking great this year. Tha short handed goal was pretty amazing. The Blues just stink. I'm starting to get sick and tired of this "rebuilding" phase. Plus we've got a ton of injuries. Legace has been in and put, Paul Karyia is out,Eric Brewer(not really much of a loss there IMO),Andy MacDonald, then there's Erik Johnsons gracefull golfing mishap, and a great looking rookie T.J. Oshie has been hurt. Seems like it's never ending for the bluenotes.
  9. Our season has pretty much stunk.Generally we take 12-14 deer a year, and this year all together we have only taken 6.I'm not giving up yet though.I'll be back at it next weekend.
  10. I pretty well am on a budget when it comes to bowhunting. Every three or four years i upgrade my bow with a used one off of AT. You can pick up a 1 year old bow in great shape on there for $200-300 less than a new one.Generally I try to limit myself to around $300 a year for everything from food plots to camo, treestands and arrows.
  11. Great pics Todd! That will be a hunt you'll never forget.
  12. No luck for me during muzzleloader season. I seen two does Saturday morning and that was it. I had the pleasure of hunting in 30+ m.p.h. wind AGAIN. We still have over 4 weeks of bow season, so maybe I can still stick a buck.
  13. That's a great buck!Congrats to your uncle!
  14. Good riddance! He's being investigated on quite a few other charges also. The guy's been nothing but a thorn.
  15. Congrats Craig! She looks like a hefty lady.
  16. Pretty uneventful weekend for our group. With 6 guys hunting Thursday and Friday not a single hunter seen a deer.Saturday I seen 10 does all in a group, another guy seen a group of seven, and another seen 4. One buck was seen all weekend and it was a little spike. I'm not even sure if I'm going back up for muzzleloader season next weekend since things have been so slow.
  17. Nothing for me over our second firearm season. This year has been really slow in our area for some reason. If I can get away next weekend I'll give it another try with the muzzleloader.
  18. Good luck this weekend! It sounds like your season is going about like mine.Every time I went bowhunting this year it seems like the wind was blowing 20+mph and the deer just weren't moving.I did manage to get two big does first season.I'll be trying for my first muzzleloader buck this weekend.
  19. The only day i bowhunted was Thursday morning and I didn't have any luck. Our second firearm season starts this Thursday, so i'll be gone hunting for four days with the muzzleloader.
  20. I bowhunted Thursday and gun hunted all weekend. We seen a pretty good amount of chasing, and I grunted and bleated in two great bucks on Thursday, just couldn't get a shot. Our evenings were horrible. Our group only seen two or three deer in the evening hunts. Most activity seemed to stop around 10 or 11.
  21. Great buck!Congrats! That joker's got some width on him!
  22. Great buck SG!Congrats! I managed to get a couple of does over the weekend gun season, so add on 5 more points. I did see three big shooter bucks over the weekend, but couldn't close the deal, so i'll still be hunting for big dady.
  23. My buddy hunted our farm all day yesterday and said he had seen 19 deer by noon...then nothing the rest of the day.He said one nice buck was locked down with a doe for a few hours, the other deer were all singles or does with fawns. Good luck Tim! I'm heading out tonight and bowhunting tomorrow and gun hunting till Sunday.
