Caterpillars attacking my cherry trees!
Adjam5 replied to Adjam5's topic in Land & Wildlife Management
and the info is a flowing on in... Thank guys! Yes Chris, I do not want to get any over spray on my various berry bushes. The berries are almost right under the infected tree line. So it sounds like Sevin is NOT what I need. BT sounds more like the cure. -
So here is the Happy ending. Got the news this morning from a Tile guy on my job. Not to steal Franks thunder... Local 7 got their contract settled and got 12% raises over 4 years...Not bad. In the VERY competitive NYC construction market. You guys did good, especially when they were looking to you guys for give backs. Congrats on the deal. Not every single industry or business is hurting. The work must be there for Local 7 to get what they were after. If it was not they would have priced themselves right out of the market and essentially cut their own throats. Think about the NYC tile, Marble and Terrazzo business...it is in the billions. The money apparently was there.

Why thank you Chris... I will have to try that stuff. I will pop in at Tractor supply, if not I know where to order it. Thanks again. I will look at that product "seven" too Doc...Thanks. -
So this is what I miss when I get up so early for work:D. This trail cam is working out great Joe. Ya know we ain't the only ones seeing the wide 8:(...We will just have to get there first. The fox are cool. Joe...Post a few pics pic of the wide 8 throughout the years. We think he will be 5 1/2 this coming October... I have one from last year Chris, but it is more advanced. A month and a half from now he will be this and some.

I spent the good part of 2 hours today lopping off branches that have silk tents in them from caterpillars. They don't seem to be as bad as last year, but they are all over and killing all the little trees I planted a few years ago. A neighbor suggested wrapping the base of the trees with tin or aluminum. He said that will prevent them from climbing the tree. I'd like to spray, but I have berry bushes(blue berry, black berry and raspberry) all over that would get the over spray. I'd like to avoid that and chemicals if I could. Anyone else having a caterpillar problem this year?

I always had BIG faith in your skills Ruth;). Congratulations and God Bless you. A lot of hard work well worth it.

My union is far from perfect and they have been let known that by our membership and changes were made. I have to say it again...construction unions are way different that any other type of unions. You have to perform and do your job or you won't work. There is no protection because you belong to a union. My local is cracking down on rogue members who get terminated for absenteeism, lateness, safety violations, smoking in non smoking areas and being non productive. After 5 bad layoffs, they suspend your membership and tell you to find a job somewhere for 6 months and when that 6 months is up, show them your paystubs and that you can keep a job and they will re instate you and refer you to a job. Union or no union, many people took their lumps if they didn't perform. LifeNRA...I hope yours and your wifes situation works out as best as possible. Your wife may very well be having a horror story with her union, and her employer...but for every bad story...there is also good one. I'll keep you guys in my prayers.

I have a vertical grip on the bottom rail which is what I use to hold while I shoot it most of the time. It does not feel any more heavier or fatter than the other factory fore ends( I also have a Colt and a Bushmaster). I kind of like the way my hand grips the rails when I do hold it without the vertical grip for longer range shooting. The multi ridged surface really locks into the hand well when you grip it. Lots of room for goodies too;). Yankee Hill makes some dandy stuff for the AR. http://yankeehillmachine.com/store/forearms.html

We are all just family men trying to make a living. The term Rat was born from contractors who were cheaters on prevailing wage jobs and played a catch us if you can game. So cheaters are often called Rats. I have been on a few picket lines in NYC where the large 14' inflatable Rat was set up. It is quite effective:). Scabs are people of the same trade who replace union workers who are on strike.

I remember the pic:). These are fun little rifles to shoot. Will you have to wear pink when you shoot it? Or is the rule creator exempt:p. That is a Stag arms lower on a Rock River M4 upper with a Yankee Hill quad rail picatinny forend. I like how it handled. The balance did change as the mag got empty. So the wrapping of the elbow in the sling while gripping the vertical forend is a must if you wish to aim with both eyes open, which is what this sight was designed for.

Is this like a Live trip update Steve? Have a safe ride up there and I am sure you will smell the proverbial roses when given the opportunity. Have a great time Steve.

We have to have lunch! I am at 26 Broadway...right by the Bull. Maybe we can meet at Dirty Mikes:D. Good Luck with the negotiations.

Just getting around to posting these pics. Thought I'd share them. I took my M4 up to deer camp where we spent the Memorial day weekend and I had my sons Joe and Mike have some fun. I put a new Vortex Fire Strike reflex sight on it and sighted it in for 50 yards dead on with the 62gr SS109 green tip. This AR is set up for close quarters/home defense. The gun shot flawlessly and I had to end the fun early because we ran out of ammo... 250 rds:eek:. 2" groups rapid fire... I love seeing my boys shoot my guns:). Especially those evil black guns. Joe has the foam ear protection on(before anyone says it:D) Mike I just got finished cleaning that gun and giving it a good light coat of Break free CLP.

I think it is Baybrent Tile and Marble Frank.

I don't eat McDonalds, but I can tell you what a 3 bedroom ranch style house on a 1/4acre costs in my area. About $350-400K. Do not forget the 10 grand a year( and going up) in school and county taxes:rolleyes:. I live approx 40 miles north of NYC. You make the money here sure, but you are not allowed to keep it. In one hand and right out the other.

It will interesting as to what takes place on my job, if they strike. There are at least 15 tile and marble guys. We are doing a school and this school needs to be open for September. I spoke to the tile foreman today and he said it does not look good. A strike might be immanent.

Hey there are incentives for trading in vehicles 10 years old and older. I believe you can write off(tax wise) certain amounts depending on how much you upgrade the gas mileage on the vehicle you purchase. This plan is just for cars now and in a few months one for light trucks will be available. My 95 4x4 Silverado had 176,000miles on it. Gets about 10 mpg with the 305/5.0. The new Silverado gets about 22mpg. I would qualify for the max rebate because I doubled my MPG. I heard this on the radio on the way home from work. Ask the dealers in your area. I think they called it the Klunker rebate.

I really like turkey hunting and the interaction of calling and response, and I am sure Elk in the rut is the same. But I have never hunted Elk , so I can only speak of what I know. I'd hunt whitetail deer. I love venison way too much to trade it for a interactive gobble and a tough bird:D.
