Re: Land Purchase Question Make sure there are NO previous tax exemptions ( senior citizen, veteran ect) present on the property that would lead you to believe that the taxes are not what they are presently to the previous owner. My tax rate after I bought this home was significantly higher due to previous expemtions on the property, that were not listed by the realtor or revealed by the estate I bought from. They only listed the present tax rate. Its up to you to find out what it will cost if YOU owned the property. Good Luck and good hunting!

Re: 835 sights and barrel rust I believe Tru -Glo makes the sights for Mossberg and they stand behind their products. Give them a e-mail and they should be able to help you. My Mossberg 835 just went back to Mossberg in Texas to repair the safety which would not engage. While it's there, I am having them port it and install the current crop of fiber sights. As far as rust...you should ZERO in a NEW gun. Talk to the store where you bought it, Bass pro should stand behind what they sell.

Re: Which Reddot?? Just bought a Tru-Glo red dot 1X30 at Gander Mtn for $24.99 to put on a new Mossberg 835. Its black on black. Tru-Glo makes some great and durable stuff and they stand behind it too. Most likely they should have it in hardwoods.

Re: 835; Shells and Chokes Congrats on the purchase, that gun will serve you well. I have had a 835 since about 90 and it is a BEAST. My workhorse gun. Like it soo much last week I bought another...all black and up to date from the factory. I have had good sucess with " The Undertaker" choke tube which is non ported, killed alot of turkeys with it. Winchester supreme 3 1/2" #5's. I have since let my son use that gun and put in a Kicks ported choke.690 ( the earlier 835's weren't ported) so he could shoot he magnums with some relief. He nailed a big tom last year year with it , again using winchester supreme 3" #6's. I have only used the factory tubes in modified and improved cyl. They do OK when shooting crows and other birds. In the field, Federal field loads 7 1/2's. It took me a while to find out what worked best and for what. Good luck!

Re: NY Residents/hunters/trappers-Please Read Here's an update from another board. Some good news. Well, the slim chance we have to block the Grannis nomination is no longer so slim From the NYSCC Region 9 Director: quote: Are you concerned about the appointment of Alexander B. Grannis to Commissioner of the NYSDEC. I called some area legislators to find out how many people called to oppose Mr. Grannis for commissioner. All the calls were opposed to Grannis as commissioner. The number of calls or letters they received varied from one to a high of fifty for a Niagara County Senator. Senator Marcellino, Chairman of the Environmental Committee office said they received many calls voicing concern over the appointment of Mr. Grannis. They also heard concerns from some Western New Legislator too. Have you called and expressed your feeling about Mr. Grannis? While you are at it send New York State Conservation Council President, Harold Palmer and Legislative Vice President, Wally John your feeling about a new Commissioner. There is no date set for the confirmation of commissioner yet. Although, there seems to be a concern to get it started because of budget concerns, etc. [email protected] [email protected]

Here is some more info on the newly appointed commisioner Grannis. They are putting a spin on his old record by saying he was just carrying out the wishes of his constituents...Yah....Right. He represented Manhattan,NYC as a assemblyman in a Liberal bunny hugging land if there ever was one. I think he is an anti who made it to the top. Here is the info you judge for yourself. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Tue, 13 Feb 2007 12:53 PM Subject: Mr. Grannis for Commissioner Hello All, I believe that we must question people who may gain a position that could be used in a way detrimental to our way of life. I have questioned Assemblyman Grannis about the legislation he has introduced that would be detrimental to trapping and hunting. Mr. Grannis stated that he is an active fly-fisherman and grew up in the midwest, hunting and fishing with his father and brothers. Mr. Grannis stated that when he sponsored the legislation to add wild game and birds to the animal anti-cruelty laws, (Bill #A3006), he made sure to add a provision that it would not prohibit or interfere in any way with anyone lawfully engaged in hunting, trapping or fishing. This legislation was initiated because of news reports about people setting rabbits and squirrels on fire, slitting throats of geese and swans and shooting hawks. Its intent was to stop the torture of animals by a few depraved individuals. Mr. Grannis stated that, as a legislator, his legislation reflects the interests of the people that elected him. The trapping legislation was the result of public outcry about pets being caught in traps. Mr. Grannis stated that as Commissioner of the Department of Enviromental Conservation, he will have a much different focus, with responsibilities well beyond those of an individual legislator. He will have all New Yorkers to work for so that everyone can enjoy our natural resources. Mr. Grannis stated that he is looking forward to working with the sportsmen of this state. Not all of Mr. Grannis' votes were bad to sportsmen. One in particular was that he did vote to allow the hunting age for small game to be lowered to 12 when that came up for a vote a few years back. If Mr. Grannis is confirmed as Commissioner of DEC, I hope he will work as hard for sportsmen as he did for his constituents in the 65th Assembly District. For the record, at this time, the NYSCC DOES NOT SUPPORT OR OPPOSE Mr. Grannis for Commissioner of the Department of Enviromental Conservation. Mr. Grannis also stated that he will be at the NYSCC legislative meeting to answer questions. Yours in Conservation, Harold L. Palmer President New York State Conservation Council Inc.

Re: Finishing our basement One more thing you might want to do. When you hang the sheetrock, kick it up from the floor atleast 1/2" maybe more depending on your finish moulding. It will cover the gap. Mark studs on floor for moulding nailing. IF water does get around the floor, the sheetrock won't act like a sponge and soak it up. Be sure to use the smooth finished end facing the floor. A open, cut peice of rock will soak up any water thats near it. I have been thru many of these basement remodels for friends and just trying to pass on some good tips that helped me. Make sure you know what your doing with the electrical....don't take chances with that. Bad plumbing will just cause a flood, bad carpentry...crooked walls, bad electric can cause fire and death. If you have any questions ask. I have been in construction all my life( my grandfather/father was a GC) and I have been a IBEW Journeyman electrician in NYC for 22 years. Good Luck!

Re: Finishing our basement Good luck with the project. I see you have a ejector pump in the basement. I would reccomend before closing up the walls to paint the concrete block with DryLock paint, that will seal it from water coming in to the basement thru the block, and seal out Radon gas(decaying rock gas) because it is pourous and seaps thru. Its a small thing thing to do to help that water and carcinogens don't get in. Also, I would look at using green sheetrock for the basement walls( atleast 1/2way up the wall), the ceiling you can use the regular white board. The green board is water resistant and since you have the possible presence of water in your basement( ejector pump, hot water heater, below ground foundation ect.) accidents do happen. The green board will stand up to water better if a hazard should occur. Look into it and good luck with it!

Re: AK-47 From the website it looks like a good AK. Most likely with an American reciever and Romanian parts. One big plus is, the scope rail is mounted already to the receiver. Most AK's do not come with rails for scope mounting. That price seems a bit high, but the finish and fit looks like it is much better than the chinese copies. Wait til you get one and see how simple the workings are in this gun. All sheetmetal stampings that are extremely tough. I'd go for this one Harv. Good Luck!

Re: have you ever, found sheds......... I found a set back in 2000 and I shot that buck the following year in gun season. I have not used them to rattle. From what I understand, the rattle of the sheds looses sound the older it gets. Also, if you have a good set of sheds that you can't rattle with because if tines...cut them and make them comfortable for you to rattle with.
