Re: The Nuge on Deer Hunting John...I agree the high fence isn't the same hunting as the free range experience to me either, but it does'nt GUARANTEE a kill either. many go home empty handed. Some hunters do not have the time to scout and be on stand endless hours at a time. The high fence is a alternative for people with pressing schedules and still like to hunt. You still have to make the shot count. I have never hunted high fence...YET. I don't know if I ever will, but I will support ANYONES right to hunt anyway legally possible. LONG LIVE UNCLE TED!

Re: N.y./conn/pa/ jersey get-together? The 1st week of october here in the so zone looks like it will be opening week for archery I am told. DEC is looking to move the date forward.Fingers crossed. How about something more along the lines of southern tier of NY. The Adirondacks is like a 6 hour drive for me. Something closer would be more appealing to me. But I am interested.

Re: The Nuge on Deer Hunting He supports ALL types of hunting(even high fence, you/we have to stick together here now...regardless of the type of hunting you do) and he gets attention. Love 'em hate 'em can't ignore him. I think he is an incredible representitve of OUR sport, He gets the word out there in everyway possible. Just what he does for the disabled and kids alone, forget about what he does for OUR troops at war. You don't have to think that. I do. NO professional hunting personalities get the exposure he does concerning OUR sport. Not everyones gonna like him, even other hunters. BTW what is your definition of what a bowhunter should be? You said he makes bowhunters look bad....how?

Re: Mama Mia!! Suburban Bucks!! Where they hide in the brushy swamp bottoms is unacessible to humans. We have a old reservior behind our house and a portion of it is swampy. You can tell the deer are in it come october/november cause you can see the mud lines on their legs. We are hoping these deer are the same 2 from last year. I don't know for sure, we did not find their sheds. We looked hard too. As Joe has said, there are few places for them to travel, but apparently enough places to keep my arrow from their lungs The largest buck I saw last year with a bow in my hand, I killed it. It was a 6pt non typical that was walking on 3 legs. We have some very old oaks back here and we all know how deer love those akins We will see... Meanwhile we are getting great entertainment from these deer coming by every night and not to leave out high expectations

Re: Housing cost.... OK...I live about 50 miles from NYC,Ground Zero. Rockland county,NY I live on the New Jersey side of the Hudson river in NY. If you can find a house with an acre on it around here...good luck. I live in a 1800sqft ranch styled home. I have roughly a 1/3 of acre (78'X161') everyone on my block has just about the same property. But....My backyard and side of the street backs up to a old reservior which is loaded with deer to bowhunt, But thats another story. But the answer to your question, a 1800sqft home with 1/3 of an acre will cost you here about 450K. PLUS...approx $8000 a year in town county and school tax, with the school tax being more than 1/2 of that tax bill We are on the verge of a 47% school tax increase here!!! YIKES!!!. Our school systems budget was based on 2 power plant assesments, they challenged the assesments and won a judgement of $236million! Our town has to pay it back, so to get it back they have to raise the school taxes by 47%!!! Its time for another Boston Tea party. Its a killer to live in the METRO NY area. You make good money, but you don't get to keep ANY of it!

Anyone have any tips on how to remove the front sight on a AR15? My son bought one a few months ago and he just got around to putting some glass on it. He is looking to make a predator rig out of it. We got some Extra high rings from Tapco for the 6-24X50 NcStar IR rangefinding scope. The only problem is you can see the front sight thru the scope. I tried a punch, all that did was bend the punch It looks like I have to grind those pins down with the dremel, remove the flash hider to slide the front sight assembly off the barrel. Any info would be appreciated.

Re: External power sources for trail cams [ QUOTE ] Remington, when times are good I'll go through 250+ pics in a 24hr period. AA's just don't cut it. [/ QUOTE ] I agree James...last night our trail cam took over 108 pics in less than 8 hours. With activity like that any battery could get run down. I am gonna look into something with a 120v source and a 12v transformer for the cam.

Re: External power sources for trail cams Re chargeables would work, but I am looking for low maintenance, and eventually the rechargeables lose their ability to take a charge. I have a deep cycle marine battery that I could hook it up too if I had to. I was looking for some kind of 120volt source.

Has anyone used a external power source for a trail cam? Batteries are getting expensive and from where I have the trail cam set up, I could run a 100' extention cord to the camera and give it an indefinite amount of power. The company that makes the trail cam offers a 12v battery kit , to externally power the unit, but they want $60 plus shipping! I am looking for a way to power this cam with out keeping Duracell in business Has anyone done anything like this?

Re: Need air rifle My son Joe, you may know him as Squirrelhunter91 on these BB has a Winchester 1000X that he might be looking to part with. He has several air guns. It is 1000fps and he taken all kinds of critters with it. I'll ask him about it. But for crows, I'd say a minimum of 1000fps.

Re: how many acres? We have 62 acres that backs up to a old ski resort and golf course that has been closed down since the late 60's. That land is like over 500 acres. We hunt that land for everything except deer. We stay on our own land for deer season.
-
Re: how often do you practice? Like 2-3 times a week. If it wasn't for my son bugging me to shoot, I most likely would not. We shoot 20 arrows each while we have deer watching us shoot. Just getting them used to the sound of an arrow

Re: I HATE TICKS!!! How about this one... I am working in lower Manhattan, one block south of Grond Zero. I am electrician installing street lights and traffic lites. There is a whole lot of work going on in the area, but nothing right now at Ground Zero. Anyway, they have landscapers there planting all kinds of palnts all over to beautify Manhattan. I'm pulling wire for the irrigation system, close to the plants and I feel something crawling up my arm....2 TICKS!!! in MANHATTAN!!! I could not believe it! Then I figured it out, they came from the plants that were shipped from Long Island and some of the rose bushes came from Canada I hate ticks too! I let my co workers know and our company got us some spray to put on before we go into the bush... Go figure...ticks in NYC

Re: I still am in need of a pump.... [ QUOTE ] call your local fire department see if they will come pump it for a small donation [/ QUOTE ] Thats a good idea, I know a few who have had that done. They took water right from the lake and pumped it into my friends pool. Don't worry the chemicals will clean it and you'll never know where the water came from Water is like 8lbs a gallon and with a 2" hose up 15' that is alot of weight you are asking a pump to move. Look into the fire dept. Good luck.

Re: Car Insurance Yes guys if you are young , you are put into a high risk pool just because of your age and experience. I live in NY, 40 miles north of Ground Zero. Everything here is ultra expensive, I have 3 vehicles, a 95 1500 Silverado,99 Chevy Venture, and a 01 Saturn SL2 (ready fro the scrap heap). My insurance on all 3 is $960 every 6 months, full coverage on the wifes van too. Thats cheap auto insurance in my book for the NY area. Rates depend mostly on age(25 and over) and exp, being married has alot to do with low rates also. But I don't suggest getting married to get low rates

Re: need some crow decoys I have seen the hard shell crow dekes for like $5 ea at Gander Mtn, they also have the soft foam crow dekes for like $3 ea. Those have a clothes pin glued to it for mounting it on branches. Both are effective. We use the soft ones with our Foxpro caller...and man do those crows come

Re: What is the best Climber? I agree with all who said Summitt tree stands. I have use and love the Broadhead Backpacker model. It weighs 22lbs, folds flat for transport has a open front for the bowhunter. I tried a Ameristep, a bit heavy. The Lone Wolf looks nice with that big cast aluminum platform. If you are gonna use it to gun hunt also, look into one with a shooting rail.

Re: The forest tent catapiller in the Northeast! YES YES YES....I have a BIG problem with those dang caterpillars. They were all over my apple trees and near killed a old cherry tree on me Just in a little over an hours time, my 3 sons gathered over 1500 of those fuzzy buggers and promptly deposited them in the camp fire. Is is REAL bad up in NY's WMU 3H with those caterpillars. I sweep out my truck before I come home from my cabin to make sure that I don't bring any where I live. How do you combat those buggers? Spray?
