Re: Sickly looking doe for this time of year Rossman you are right on, I couldnt agree more. But...Last year, I found 2 deer carcasses in feb on our land in 3H and I called DEC about them, They say they want to know when you find deer carcasses out of season. I called left 4 messages for the biologist involved. The femurs, which I was told to save for testing were never came for I gave up. We scout our land (62acres) often and the surrounding 500 or so too(abandoned ski hotel and golf course). I have invited DEC to test away on our land if they like. No response. So it is up to good hunters like ourselves to keep the careful eye out for problems. These trail cams are a great way to do it. I don't want to get all down on DEC and all, they have been very progressive the last few years and opened up opportunities for others to hunt( youth seasons). Thats a good thing. But DEC could ALWAYS do more.

Re: Antlerfest 06 pics Thats soo cool! I'd love to go to one of those. Don't the boy scouts or some other group collect them also and have a big sell off to raise $? I don't know if its Utah, but I saw it on TV once about kids tugging wagons full of antlers.

Re: A great trail cam 2.0megapix at a great price My son already has them posted under another thread on this BB. Its in photograpy and video section. It takes 4 "C" batteries, take a look at the pics it took, I think they are pretty good considering that it is a $99 camera. http://www.realtree.com/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/971897/an/0/page/0#Post971897 Here is a pic of a doe that the Trailcam took. This is the only one I have my son has them loaded on his file. -
Re: Suburban Trail Cam Those bucks have nothing but mature oak hardwoods and expensive landscaping to live in around here. I agree he WILL be putting on weight soon. The acorn crop here is amazing...I just hope I see him before Joe does this october

Re: Sickly looking doe for this time of year That thought DID cross my mind, but...it was during the week of fawn dropping up there. So I am kind of leaning towards that occurance. We will be up again for fathers day. We will set up the trail cam at the same spot and I will post any new pics we get there.

If you are in the market for a digital trail cam , give the Wildview Xtreme II a look. It is 2.0 megapixel which is fine for a trail cam. It does video, burst mode and single images. It takes a SD card for additional memory. Very simple to use and the best part...it was only$99. Thats a good deal in my book. I got mine at Gander Mtn and may buy another too. The dig trail cam is soo much better than a 35mm one.

Re: Suburban Trail Cam Yup there were other pics of this buck, you have a good memory about the fence in the pics. That is the view outside of Joes bedroom window. Here is the actual view, from the woods to the back of the house. Thats Joes window seen thru center of the gate. This gate gets busy at times during october and november

Re: Price of BOWS today When I bought my Mathews Outback in March of '03 I paid $565 stripped. All said and done, I spent almost $1200 with 2 dozen Beman 380-16's. I think I spent more on the accesories, but the bow; if I can remember correctly, was cheaper than most people could get it for. I thougfht I was gonna spend more than most living in the north east. But I was wrong. Most were spending around $650 and better on the, then new Outback. The following year, the dealer who I got my Mathews from(Davis Sports, Sloatsburg,NY) was no longer a Mathews dealer. He said Mathews dropped him because he was selling the bows too cheap. He made his $ on the accesories. The bow he said he only made a few $ on. I can only imagine what a new Switchback costs stripped today This Mathews replaced a 20 year old bow, a Bear Whitetail Legend. I thought I be good for almost another 20 years, but my oldest boy(14) has his eyes on it, and he could draw it back too Looks like I will have to buy another bow soon. He is taking all my hunting stuff But I guess thats a good thing

Re: Anybody using the AIR-REST, looks cool? This is something I wondered about this rest. Most inserts are aluminum, right? That is non ferrous. Carbon or alu is non ferrous. Most if not all broadheads are hardend steel(exp or fixed) ferrous. Does the rest operate on just broadhead thread shaft recognition? Since that is the only thing that could have opposing forces to suspend it. Everything else is non magnetic. Scientists!!! Help!

Re: Sickly looking doe for this time of year [ QUOTE ] Thats normal for a doe feeding 1 or 2 fawns for this time of year. Not only are they recovering from winter, alot of the nutrients were going towards the fawn(s) and when born , most of the nutrients are being used to create milk. Most of the time when a deer is sick it will show in there coat , it will look roughed up and this one looks very smooth and full. [/ QUOTE ] Come to think of it , I think you are right about the coat being ratty if they are sick. I have seen some ratty coats on deer, but this doe most likely as most say , just run down from birthing and feeding.

Re: Sickly looking doe for this time of year I guess the fawn thing could have taken a big toll on her. In that area over that weekend, we came upon 2 does that would not budge, lots of foot stomping and sure enough, fawns hopping in the grass. She is a mature one,but looks real run down for sure. That arched back sure does not look good either. Here is another pic of her.
