William, congrats on Cristina's marriage. I'm looking forward to grandchildren. AS are you I imagine. Joe! How are the purple feet doing? ? Still wine making? I get up north sometimes. Even make it to Canandaigua occasionally. NYBowhunters HQ, in Layfayette,NY Each year I do make it Greene county for the NYB annual banquet. Gotta come, great hunts and prizes are raffled away. Last one, a Ontario bear hunt went for $350 because no one bid on it. So there are so deals to be had there. Also hit the Binghampton area to gun hunt come November sometimes. Hope you and the family are well. Did I tell you we found out we have a distant relative that is a well known wine make in Italy? http://www.ciropicariello.it/ Corey...Hope you are doing well. Yeah TBH is getting me in the Texas state of mind. Incredible bunch of generous and smart people on there. Made some good friends on there also that I have met up with while down the Hill Country.Y'all better mind Austin. It is becoming the San Francisco of Texas. Yeah I have been in Texas at least 2x a year chasing Axis and Hogs. Making a bunch of friends and they are finding out not all Yankees are the same Will be concentrating soon on putting a structure on my place in Harper. The $6.52 a year taxes are killing me ?. I have a full AG exemption. Just had the feeders filled and the grass cut. Planned on being there for the Nov 1st gun opener, but that will have to wait until after I meet with my pension director Nov 5th. I'm killing and Axis a year at minimum in Kerrville, and a few hogs out in Mountain Home, but nothing trophy grade yet. Free range, so take what you can get with the Axis. Met up with a few guys from the green screen also while down in the Hill Country. We got our trust all fixed and have a few Suppressors now and some really cool toys growing up in commie NY I never even knew existed . Great to hear from you guys and hope everybody is doing well. I'll be stopping in more often. Anyone ever hear from Tominator Chris? Buckee?

Yup....Joe is 26 now and still lives eats and craps the outdoors. 38 deer under his belt, only 3 with a gun. Has a beautiful Charcoal lab pup named Ruger. My Grand dog . Hey Ross. You still keep up with Joe, so you know how he is doing. Hope your back is feeling better and your doing well. Know there was a rough time for a while. Good luck with the doves. Texas does love their dove hunting. Waiting to see you as a a judge on forged in fire Great to hear from you. Georgia for gators. Have no idea where I am going. Georgia DNR mailed me my tag, flying into Atlanta Sept 5th. Have a close friend who grew up in NY now a Federal/LE agent down there and he is leading the charge and hunt. My friend/neighbor, Herbie from Texas will there also with us. There will be 5 of us. I am still hitting Texas 1-2x a year shooting Axis and hogs. Hope to be full time resident there soon.

Hello everyone! Have not been around in a while although I occasionally pop in to read some of the threads. I have not and will not be doing the facebook thing. Although I do frequent another BB. Texas Bowhunters. Glad to see some of the old familiar faces still around . Hardcore boys! This BB was hopping at one time. A few of my most memorable moments on this BB when Buckee was attacked by a mulie and killed it with his knife, and someone posted something about finding an alien in their belly button and posted a pic of it. Man....some things you just can't unsee. Long time ago. A lot has changed with myself and my kids. Some of you know on here know my oldest son Joe. He got engaged, moved out and they will get married like Sept 2019. She bow/gun hunts and is pretty dang good too. My middle boy Anthony in a cop in the south Bronx NYC. He has practically moved out and in with his girlfriend, and my youngest son Mike graduated SUNY Albany school of Finance graduating magna cum laude. Won a scholarship for his graduate year and has been signed already by a accounting firm in NYC waiting for him to finish school to put him to work. My darling wife of 27 years is still THE cook at the high school feeding 1200 kids a day and when she comes homes its a problem to make me dinner ?. Myself, what a story, I tore the Meniscus root in my left knee last Sept which I already had ACL reconstruction in back in 07. Knee needs lots of work. On knee replacement border. Tore my meniscus in my right knee in 2010, repaired, but deteriorated all along. So my Dr says I could use knee replace on both knees, but does not want to do it unless absolutely necessary. Needless to say, I cannot work and have been out on workers comp since October. So after these injuries and my time in(34 years) I decided to pack it in and retire. Filed for SS disability and have a appt with my pension director in NOV. Earliest I can get one. Now, forward Texas. My property down there is paid off and now time to start thinking about a house on it. With the empty nest the wife and I have now. I don't need to stay here and keep paying these property taxes in NY. Rockland county 1/3acre 1700sqft home 11G's a year in school and property tax. Yeah...nuts huh? I am shooting a Traditional bow now only. Upping the game. A 1968 Indian Deer Slayer recurve. Dust is piling up on the Mathews. Shooting and hunting is not a problem for me, its getting there(walking) that is the problem. If I am sitting, can do most anything. So while another fall revs up, wishing luck to all of you. I drew a Gator tag in Georgia( after 7 years applying) and will be down there the beginning of Sept to try and fill it with four other friends who also got tags. I'll keep y'all posted on that. Still wish this BB had email notifications of replies. I think that kind of stopped traffic here also. I'll be popping back here more often. Thanks for listening. Miss you guys. I know Tim Andrus retired. Text with him occasionally. Now tell me about y'all. Here is a pic of us all after AJ received his shield and graduated the NYPD. 15039 by Tony Pic, on Flickr

My prayers for your family William. Hope he gets the help he needs. I know he is getting the love.

Jeez Rhino...y'all do get hosed real good. Wow!

Sure is some heavy snow you got there. Not fun plowing or shoveling. Hope it is the last storm for you. Good luck chasing Toms. The snow is nice to look at, play in a little bit; but as it impedes your ability to do things and cause your heating bills to go up in smoke. The more I cannot wait to get to Texas and be done with the snow and 4 months of cold here in NYS. Come on Spring!

Hoping to get down to Texas and chase Rios very soon. Also, this year will be the first with no youth mentor to guide for NYs youth season. Good luck with the Merriams Tim.

Nice! Love the crab claw

I feel lucky that my planning worked out. Because there are NO bargains in NY. I have been blessed with family land to hunt, fish and trap on. Bought myself and my 3 sons($250 at birth) lifetime licenses. Have mine over 25 years. I have a Lifetime Sportsman(paid $500), which covers, deer, bear, turkey, small game, fishing and doe tag fee. A few years after, I got into bowhunting, I bought the $180 lifetime archery endorsement and also added the $180 Lifetime Muzzleloader endorsement. The only NY license I buy annually is Trapping. I am ahead of the game if I had to buy a annual license that supports all I do. I do donate $ for venison donation and buy a Conservation stamp. Non residents in NYS actually had their hunting license fee reduced a few years ago by King Cuomo. Just over $100 for deer. Not bad. Texas charges non residents $48 to hunt exotics and non native species(Hogs and Axis ect) for 5 days. Now to hunt whitetail in Texas; the license costs just about $400. For me hunting is not expensive as long as I stay in NYS or hunt only hogs and Axis in Texas. I hunt private land in Texas with no fee.

Some impressive kills there. Congrats1 How were the acorns by your part of Texas this year? Had them everywhere in the Hill Country.

Congrats on your boy passing his hunter ed. Great times are ahead for you both :). Put a trail cam in the house for great impromptu pics of the party! Have fun. Our home has been very quiet for some time now. Empty nest. My oldest, Joseph moved out with his girlfriend. Y'all might remember him here as Squirrelhunter91. Hes working on Turbine engines now. Middle boy AJ is a NYPD officer and when he is not on patrol in the South Bronx chasing bad guys, he is in the gym. Hardly see him. Youngest son Michael is finishing his senior year at Albany now, living off campus but going to graduate school, next year for a better pay rate from the company that signed him already to work for them when he graduates. Hes a smart kid. My wife is a home body, and works full time. So... off to the country house I go! and cross my fingers I don't get walloped with snow. Hey...That rhymes Coyote and crow the ONLY critters left to hunt here in NYS. Looking forward to spring turkey. Maybe find some sheds.

Yup Chris was a great guy who was always quite witty. Yeah....we lost a few of the great ones around here.

Texas happens to be my favorite state. Made that road trip myself last November from NY. San Antonio is a beautiful city and the food is great. Just be careful where you park. Many vehicle break ins. Maybe you can grab an Axis while your down there. Have fun Ross and hunt safe.

Breath taking to see that daily.

This is a can worms here... Where folks hunt has a lot to do with it. New Mexico, Oklahoma, The Dakotas, Texas. A 3-400 yard shot may be common. Is that hunting? You are killing a animal, but I think it is more a long the lines good shooting. Firearms give a huge advantage in hunting. The lesser the weapon, the greater the skill. Less margin of error. Drawing a bow(compound or stick) in the presence of a animal changes the game so much as far as fair chase goes. So to make the hunter successful, crossbows are allowed. No more choosing a pin and drawing the bow with the animal in front of you. Easy with a crossbow. Now for as far as kids and folks who have disabilities hunt however you want, as long as you hunt. Spot and stalk with a recurve , longbow, spear or Atlatl are the only pure methods in hunting. All the other weapons have used advanced technology to make a less skillful hunter more...er...skillful . But even if you spot and stalk with primitive weapons in a apple orchard, you are still hunting over bait. Advantages of a Steel broadhead or obsidian? Carbon arrow shaft or Osage? Plastic fletch or Feathers? Bone or self nock? Who defines what is and whats not?

Good job William. You don't need any of your farm animals stepping in one of the holes those critters make. We will start seeing them in late March or April around here. I shoot about a dozen a year and leave 'em out for the buzzards and occasionally get Bald eagles to come feast.

Welcome back Jeremy me me me me me...Everything echos in here. Place been very empty. Still a few great folks here though.

Good luck to your daughter. Women can play some wicked softball. I'm stuck home for a few reasons. One, more knee problems. Possible replacement of left knee and now right knee( previous torn meniscus repair), is giving problems. This may be a path to retirement. I don't know. I feel I'm too young, but I have 33 years in so. See what Drs say. My son AJ is a NYPD cop and his car has been in the shop for 3 weeks now( vehicle recall) and he has been using my vehicle to go to the city to work. Wife don't get home from work until 2. Wanting to go up to the country house, going stir crazy but she won't let me take her truck so I am a prisoner in my own home. The computer has been keeping me busy. Been in and out of here more often. Good to see some old friends.

I 'd say it was a 2.5 yo. and could be a fork horn.

Don't have any experience with the TC Venture, but I can tell you about these. The Savage Axis and Ruger American are surprising rifles. I never considered a Savage Axis in .223. Won it in a raffle. Made a few improvements to it and I am really happy with with accuracy it delivers. Home made trigger job, cut 1.5 rings off the trigger spring. Polished it up with some flitz and it is a 3lb trigger now. Changed the stock, put on a Boyds and good rings and glass. It looks good and shoots good. I am a Axis believer. 125 by Tony Pic, on Flickr I also have the Mossberg MVP in 5.56. Accurate rifle. Looks nice out of box, pretty stock, nice matte finish, fluted bbl. and trigger is adjustable. Only thing I hate is the mag slop it has. Need to hold mag up from bottom for bolt to reliably grab cartridge. Mag slop is the negative in this rifle. Now for the Ruger American Ranch in 300 Black out. Smooth bolt, nice finish, accurate, good trigger, threaded bbl for cans. Just the stock feels cheap and crappy like the original plastic Savage one did. Which is why I replaced it. KIMG0684 by Tony Pic, on Flickr The Axis is the least expensive of the aforementioned rifles. But with what I put into it, its in the same league as the others. You can't go wrong with any of the three rifles I just mentioned.
