I knew it was a joke because of the smilie in the topic title. A good one I must admit. These things folks just do NOT put out there on the net if they were true.

Hittin' the road for one last hunt
Adjam5 replied to Tony Smotherman's topic in The Realtree Pro Staff Room
Hey Tony...Thanks for stopping on by . Good luck on all your future hunts and keep us up to date on your harvests! -
Nurses are in high demand in many places. The closer you get to a populated place...the more money you can make. Unless of course... you are in it for the cause:D. But I think Ruth wants to work close to home. Am I right Ruth?

I am getting very psyched up for this trip. I am hoping to retire in the Hill country. If the Good Lord sees fit to get me to retirement. It will be the sportsman's wonderland that I have been dreaming of. I fell in love with the Hill country . My buddy sends me this pic from yesterday afternoons sit. Those are some really nice horns. Hope that bad boy sticks around for a few more weeks.

Hey Dan...I am done with Whitetail hunting here in NY. BUT... I hopefully will be in the Texas Hill country in a week or two chasing free ranging Axis deer. Wait a sec...is this contest whitetail only? I might have a chance at a good Axis buck when I am in Texas. The knee is not where the Dr and I would like it to be, so a few more weeks of healing might be in order. I was hoping to get back to work right after Christmas. I see the Doctor Monday. While I am hoping he tells me I can go to work, I am quietly hoping I get another week or two off so I can get to Texas for a few days . It has been brutal cold here like the rest of the country, so that has been curtailing my coyote/crow hunting. We didn't do too bad this year. The team did rather well I think. Congrats to all of our team for a great effort. OH yeah...hope you are felling better too Dan.

That Buckee is quite the creative one eh? . Cool sig. It does look nice.

How old are you now? How old are you now? The best to the both of you guys! Happy Birthday!

I collect them because I know guns in the future will be harder and harder to get. They will be part of my legacy to my sons. I have a few bolt guns, a few lever guns, one Savage 99 made in 1923, about 7 .22's and about 10 shotguns in various configurations, pump, semi, O/U and single shot. As you can see I have a fondness for military styled firearms. These are what I have pics of. A Cetme/HK G3 in .308 and my AR varmint rig. My NY legal M4 and my preban AKM47 My 3 AR's a post ban Colt, preban Bushmaster and a Stag Arms with a Rock River M4 upper. I have since changed the cheap red dot sight on my M4 to a Vortex Strike Fire red dot sight. Here is a pic of my safe...Just kidding:D I wish!

So much for thinking the northern states have the larger animals due to the cold weather. Can't wait to see your mount when it is done . This one William, was taken on our land about 2 years ago by my neighbor. It weighed 14 1/2lbs.

Congrats on the crows! I love crow hunting and they are some smart critters too. I use the Fox Pro caller and my HS Strut hammerin' crow call. What do you guys use? This is what I do with the crows I shoot. http://www.crowbusters.com/headdress.htm There is an Indian tribe that needs the feathers for rituals and ceremonies. I pluck em as best I can and send off the feathers to them. I leave the carcass' at my creek bottom where I trap, to keep varmints and predators always visiting .

I have been invited again, to my 2nd most favorite place on earth. The Texas Hill country( Kerrville) for a Axis hunt . Last year I went down and took a small axis buck, got to meet and spend a day with Tink at his home and strengthened some friendships too. I had a blast. Plane tickets are $188. I can't drive there for that price. It is all a matter of my Dr this Monday, approving another few weeks of recovering from my ACL replacement surgery on Oct 1st. Soooooo... I get these two pictures from where we hunted last year, from my buddy who is hosting me. He sat there this morning, in 18* weather...YIKES! with his camera scouting for me. What a guy. There is a good buck under the feeder see the horns? I hope it sticks around and no one else shoots him. These are free ranging deer. The river in the background is the Guadalupe. See the whitetail in the second pic? The Axis chase the whitetail away from the feeder. How do you shoot one without hitting ten of them? A problem I am so not used to living and hunting in NYS. Hopefully I will get a few more weeks to errr...convalesce in Texas for about 5 days in a week or two. I can't wait! I will be getting NO break with the cold weather. Texas has been just as cold as NY, but only no snow. Thought I'd share these pics taken today. Anyone else ever hunt Axis? A lone whitetail spike.

Very Cool Ross. I am sure some exposure won't be a bad thing. I'll try to catch it.

Guilty here... But NEVER out a window of our house here. Maybe at deer camp, but not here at home. Varmints are fair game out the window. Although it is tempting. A scene from the yard.

Congrats on the Taurus. I hear they are a lot of gun for the money. Their factory is state of the art.
-
Wow color phase coons! Just like bears. Great pics! Trail cams are great tools.

Again, I am amazed at the whitetails willingness to live. They are one tough critter. Imagine human trying to survive like that? Cool pics Todd, thanks for sharing them. BTW...I say he dies from from predation by becoming weak from infection...OR Todd ventilates his lungs.

Nature is beautiful in all her works Matt . Cool pics thanks for sharing.

Kind of hard for a 6'8" guy to be steathy huh? Well how about setting up in the living room and opening up a window? Just remember if you are shooting downward watch for the window sill. The arrow and sight are a few inches apart. So while you have a clear sight picture through the peep, the arrow is a few inches lower and sometimes hits the sill:rolleyes:. I've seen it happen. Ask my son Joe . He/we have never shot deer out the window, but groundhogs are fair game here.

I have stayed out of this discussion and read all the posts. Up til now. No one has brought up this point. The simple fact that the crossbow does NOT have to be drawn in the presence to the animal disqualifies it for archery season. We are talking about a shoulder fired, pre cocked, scoped weapon. Point and shoot like a gun. Sure the range is limited, compounds and longbows beat it hands down, also in quietness. How many times have you been busted drawing your bow on stand? How many times have you been busted pointing your rifle while on stand? An archer knows what I mean. Like Mike said...don't think for one minute that there is not a consortium of crossgun manufacturers who are pushing for this and State DNR's looking to sell more tags. Yes, we need to get more hunters in the game. So why stop at crossguns?( Excuse me Luke ) I mean crossbows. What about the guy who wants to hunt with a spear? Or a rock? How much more primitive can you get? There needs to be rules. Archery is meant to be a difficult and demanding, skill and practice is involved. If it is all about making the harvest easier...lets go to hand grenades why don't we. When I don't shoot my bow for a few months, I need to get reacquainted with it. When I don't shoot my rifle for a few months, I know I can put it in the bullseye. Just like a crossbow. I shot a crossbow for the first time in my life about 5 years ago and I hit the bulleseye at 30 yards. Am I that good or does it make it easier to launch a pointed stick? I have nothing against anyone using any weapon to hunt in ANY season for the disabled, hurt, vets and seniors. The aforementioned should be able to hunt anytime, anywhere with any weapon IMO. Just not in archery seasons for healthy hunters. If the state DNR's are looking to increase the hunter rolls. Why isn't hunter ed taught more often than just the few months before the seasons open? It is all about $$$.

Not so Will. I took the OSHA 30 Hour course and that is what is they specify. Look it up. Will, we work on straight ladders also from time to time and I have worked 380' above ground on bridges all over NYC. Safety inspectors from OSHA have cited Sheetrock tapers on scaffolds(inside apartments!) for not having fall protection above 6'. OSHA is the enforcement arm of NIOSH. They will investigate if someone is taken off the job in a ambulance. Even on a Baker Scaffold, it requires railings below 6' or a full body harness above 8', belts alone are no good, need a full harness. I work in the construction capital of the world...NYC. I know it sounds ridiculous, and some of the rules are. Sometimes there is no place to tie off to. But they want you to have a belt on anyway. The responsibility is on the worker and the customer wants the workers to know what the rules are so they are immune from lawsuits if someone gets hurt by not wearing fall protection. EVEN in a 8x4 man lift(scissor lift) you need to wear a harness. But if they catch us, and NYC is under the same OSHA as anywhere else in the country, workers will be fired and fined depending on how many offenses have been committed Safety is something that should not be compromised. Be careful at work today, you are expected home tonight. No job is so important, no service is that urgent. That a worker cannot take the time to do the job safely. Mossyhorn...sorry about the Hijack. Glad you are OK. If you need a full body harness, I'll see if I can get you one and a lanyard when I get back to work and I'll send it to you. Please do not take this a finger waving or scolding...I am trying to teach about what I KNOW from the classes I took on job safety. Been doing it 25 years and I want you to go home the same way you came to work...in one piece.

Prayers headed his way Steve. Yours too.

That is a HUGE Bobcat at that weight! We get them up here in the 10-20lb range. That will make a great mount a cat that size. Again...congrats.

Good day of hunting, 8pt buck, bobcat and coyote.

Congrats on the kills. Yup it was a good day. -
Very nice William. Good shooting on such a small target;). What did it weigh? Are you going to clean up the skull also? Bobcat skulls are pretty with all them teeth. Congrats.
