  1. Looks great Randy! Congratulations!
  2. I know I really don't have a desire to hunt a stand where someone else has been or will be hunting. Chances are the big deer will know and avoid that spot. Hunting public land requires a little different approach to hunting. I look for areas that are hard to get to. Areas that are thick and difficult to see from a road or trail. Areas that a deer will likely run to when the hunters are walking in. Perhaps the guy is easy going and doesn't plan to hunt that spot much. Then again could likely be that he's a jerk in which case I'd just forget about that spot. If he never calls I'd bet the number is bogus which would mean he's more likely a jerk.
  3. So how's this signature look? (Thanks to Luke (VermontHunter) I'll wait a day or so before sending a message to Jeff (texas trophies) announcing our new name in case someone opposes. If you want to add it to your signature here is how I did it: 1. Right click on the signature banner and save it to your computer. 1. Click on "User CP" (Top left portion of screen) 2. Under Settings & Options click "Edit Signature" 3. Under Option 2 - Upload Image From Your Computer click "Browse" 4. Find the location you saved the signature banner to on your computer and click open. 5. Then click "upload" 6. Then click "Insert Signature Picture" 7. Then click "Save Signature"
  4. I'll send a PM to Luke and see if he can make us a banner with the name Haunted Horns!

    Interesting! I'll remember that.
  6. I liked the name Haunted Horns immediately! I say we go with that. What say the rest?
  7. fly

    Age him for me.

I'd go with 2.5 as well. If he is 1.5 then he's gonna be something special in a few years!

Thanks for the comments. For $350.00 I'm happy with it. One thing I wasn't sure about was the lines in the neck (muscle lines in the mold that show through). They are more visible in this mount than any other I have. I've heard that for competition taxidermists try to tone this down. I think I'd like it if they were not quite as visible. Seems like I learn something new with every mount! BTW... Anyone in IL or Missouri who is interested the taxidermist that did this is Mark Short of Buck Fever Taxidermy in Brighton IL. His prices are not going up this season.
  9. Been doing this for about 5 years now. If I get one the first week of October I generally only listen to it while heading to my hunting location or if the younger kids want it on. Oh and I always play it when my 13 year old step-daughter is riding with me because she thinks it's "Soooo Lame" listening to Christmas music in October. I love Christmas music and never really get tired of hearing it. Once Christmas is over the CD goes back into storage until the next seasons first blood. Smack, I hope you don't have to "fire" any arrows this season due to 3 weeks of poor performance.:clown:
  10. I've been hunting those things twice and haven't even had a shot at one yet! I'll be trying again this spring in Idaho. I'd be tickled with a 4 footer! Nice job!
  11. Maybe a few fps slow, but nothing to worry about if you ask me as long as you're hitting what you're aiming for.
  12. I'd suggest that you go to a local pro shop (I've heard good and bad about Gander Mtn.). I'm wondering if your draw length might be a little long (with certain releases) making your wrist twist? Pro's at a good pro shop would know after watching you pull one time.
  13. Get at least a 1hp grinder. I have the Cabela's model and love it! The grinder comes with tools for making sausage but most people say to get a stuffer. I take the meat I want made into sausage to the butcher. A hoist is a nice addition, but we just muscle them up into the rafters and hang it on a gabriel. We hang them head down and generally need a stepping stool to work on the hind legs. Roasts, loin steaks, kabob meat, and ground burger is what I typically make.

    Locked OUT!

Strange that the key wouldn't work???? Has it ever worked?
  15. Dakota where's the conclusion! Looking froward to seeing some pictures of you with this one.
  16. Well he's back! My first from this particular taxidermist. My old taxi charges close to 600.00 now and although his work is OK, I don't think it's $600.00 OK! Only took 10 months and cost me $350.00 (got a free hat too!) So lets here what you all think!I'd appreciate honest opinions please. If there's something you like what exactly or if there is something you don't like what exactly?
  17. Looking foward to seeing your mount Kirk! Sounds like a great idea.
  18. Nice picture jm (is it Jim)? Anyone else have some name suggestions? Once we get a name I can send a PM to Luke (Vermont hunter) and get a banner made. Unless someone here can make one?
  19. Hey Casey anybody with a Cardinals avatar can post anything he/she likes and I'm fine with it! I feel for your friend. I found out from the owner of property I've been hunting on for many years now that this will be my last year to hunt because he is leasing it to an outfitter. I'll be taking my daughter there this October to deer hunt for the first time. She's eight. At least I will not have to worry about telling her to give a buck one more year to get bigger.
  20. The red dot scope I have was sold seperate from the mounting bracket. The 20 guage wingmaster I have is very old. Probably close to 40 years. I'm not sure when Remington switched but back in the day the reciever for the 12 and 20 guage were the same. I found this out after trying on the 20 guage B-square mount and it did not fit my receiver. Since it was too small I tried the 12 guage and it fit snug. The tru-glo scope would fit either as I recall.
  21. Lotta freaks out there! Shouting back may have provided instant gratification, but the best thing is to ignore them.
  22. Several good options out there regrading manufacturers as others have stated. I'll offer this up to think about. I've had some fixed blad knifes that only get used when we are butchering up deer. It does not go to the stand with me because non-folding knifes are too bulky and require a sheath. They just are not as practical for the hunter than needs to pack light. I use a fold up Buck something like the one below. It has the saw for ribs, the edge, and the gut hook.
  23. I really like the tru-glo red dot scope I put on my 870 20 guage. It's fine out to 75 yards and it's not bad on the pocket book. Got mine for about 60.00. Newer ones have the red dot and green dot option. I bought it primarily for my kids. They have trouble finding things with the eye relief and the red dot has unlimited eye relief. They do have models with 2X magnification and various reticles. The single red dot is great for 75 yard shots and closer. Not sure, but I'd likely get the kind with 2X magnification and crosshair reticle if I was shooting 100 yards +. I've shot 2 boxes of slugs and with my B-square mount it is as tight as the day I installed it.
  24. The wind is blowing outside of my house this afternoon.
  25. Happy Birthday Gary! Enjoy the new bow!
