  1. The name of my families Adirondack lake camp is called The Bug House, Grandad built the place back in the 50's. He owned a pest control business and would bring employees to work on it, ironically the Black Flies and Mosquitoes were so bad they had to stop working on a few ocassions. So those guys named it. He had some signs with his business logo on it (An angry looking yellow jacket of all things) and it still hangs in a big Red Cedar tree close to the house.
  2. Here in Vermont, the first Tuesday in March is Town meeting Day. Obviously, this year is the Primary as well. All local elections are held on this day, as well as the town budget vote and other town business. It's also a state holiday. Only registered voters of that town may speak or make a motion on an issue. Many towns still vote from the floor, as opposed to a secret ballot. What I find interesting is the fact that this process is largely unchanged since the 1700's! And yes, I voted for Ron Paul. Vermont Secretary of State - It's also a sign of Spring somewhere in the distance!
  3. A real-life 'Hunger Games' in Michigan? | HLNtv.com The comments after the read are overwhelmingly pro-hunting. Several of which were made by non-hunters. Encouraging. I think the author has a screw loose. ETA: Are there any states without a youth hunting program?
  4. They're gobbling !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our spring season doesn't open until May 1st, I don't have high hopes.
  5. Home-made turkey call Nice! Guy I work with made one just like it.
  6. I was backing up some photo's and I came across this one. To funny not to post!
  7. Many of the kids around here post pics of thier Hunting/Fishing trophies. The local paper even has a column for those Facebook pics.
  8. Never even seen the twitter site, nor do I really "get it". Facebook seems different to me, more ability to customize.
  9. Last year my oldest got sick and we realized that we'll need a cell phone at all times. I refuse to pay for a landline and a cell, so we decided to cancel the landline and look for a cellphone. The selection for regular "non-smart" phones is suprisingly limited. So, we just treat the cell # as a landline, I never carry it unless I'm alone with my daughter. My wife had a pre-paid a couple years ago, and it was very economical, but the coverage was terrible. Do you get funny looks when you tell people you don't have a cell? I sure do!
  10. Very convenient. I just have an iPod touch, and the keypad is difficult to use.
  11. Sorry you missed the chance to shoot him!
  12. thumbs up to that, Lewis!!! Our biggest snowfall was back on Halloween. Last year we were up to our elbows in the stuff. A couple weeks of winter left and you never know what mother Nature has planned. You have to feel for the people hit with those tornadoes. Seems early. Here also, prior to yesterday. We had a foot for Halloween, and then a foot for Thanksgiving. The average seasonal snowfall here is about 125",including yesterday, we're up to 40" or do this year!
  13. Social Media - Do you/Don't you Yea, I have a Facebook page thanks to my wife. I have all the privacy settings set so that nobody can see a thing on it though. Like MIbowhunter, my family is spread across the country and it's great to see photo's so frequently. We use Skype for the same reason, not to mention its free. But, I dislike it for the same reasons previously posted. I must say however, during hurricane Irene (if you remember, VT got decimated) a LOT of people had no other way to communicate. Me and my family were evacuated by bucket loader and had about 3 minutes warning to pack up, this includes supplies for our 4 year old Diabetic daughter. The emergency shelter had power and WiFi, it was a lifesaver!
  14. About time for a new phone Although I don't have a cell phone (I can't be the only one here!) most everyone I know has a smartphone. Seems to me that the phones have pretty much equal capabilities, and a lot of disparity between price tags. There's a lot of iBacklash these days, perhaps the prices on the iPhone will reflect that at some point.
  15. Winnie here we come Good luck, we got skunked on our annual outing for the first time ever this year. When the larger lakes don't button up, the smaller lakes around here get a ton of pressure. Stay safe.
  16. Our first winter storm First dump here as well, ended up with about 18" in the backyard. Broke out the snowshoes this morning for the first time all season!
  17. Pikes Peak Nice pics.....Before he died my old man lived in Fort Collins, I visited him there a few times and it's nothing short of magnificent out there. Good luck on the interview.
  18. My new ride Wow! Congrats She's a beauty!
  19. What was you high school mascot and colors? Lions. Blue & Gold
  20. Hunting or Fishing Ive done all sorts of fishing, from back country lost ponds for native trout and bass, Big northerns and lakies through the ice. Giant Tuna & Mako Shark fishing 70 miles offshore. 14lb Fluke and Bluefish & 50lb Stripped Bass off Montauk Point. Grouper and Yellowtail in the Caribbean. All sorts of crab pots/traps chasing blue claw and stone crab. I've only been hunting for about 5 years, mostly Turkey, Grouse and Deer, and I'll take Turkey hunting over all that fishing with the exception of that little un-named north country pond. Gliding effortlessly over the glass calm surface and the commotion made by hooking into a big one is my favorite!
  21. Ohio school shooting Terrible to see stuff like this, just heard the news about an hour ago. Hope everyone is OK.

  23. Here also Shaun! We call 'em "Bluebird" days, bright sun... blue skies... crisp temps... fresh snow. Few and far between this year. You're required to have the shavk down by the end of Feb? Is that every year? Hope you enjoyed the day.
  24. Found this old man last week during our annual ice fishing trip. Seeing the fishing wasn't so hot, some of us headed into the woods. This was on a large tract (1000 acres) of private land, 4 miles from the closest road. he was half buried, and I had to chip him out of the frozen swamp. No other carcass parts were found, I'm sure the yotes spread him around. As far as anyone knows (inlcuding the landowner) no one has hunted this land in about 20 years.
  25. Moving on.... I can completely relate and empathize with your situation turkey girl. Hospital work environments are all to often extremely toxic. And if you have any sort of work ethic as a clinician, you get dumped on ruthlessly. I'm the director of Cardiopulmonary services at a small hospital in NH. The level of dis-function, institution wide, is astounding. It starts at the top and continues throughout every employee, I've inherited multiple employees with extensive disciplinary records, one of which admitted to falsifying the MAR for 5 years. The fundamental lack of accountability has ripple effects that will continue to have a negative impact for years to come. This leads to tremendous disparity between people and departments, couple that with the fiscal crisis most hospitals face and the responsibilities clinical employees have...... results in the most stressful and draining work environment imaginable. The good news is you have some valuable letters after you name, and with some flexibility and perseverance there are good jobs to be had out there. Good luck.
