I read somewhere that in the next year Netflix wants to have the entire catalogue available to watch instantly. I'm not much of a gamer, so no game console for me, but I do stream Netflix and HD from my wireless router to a laptop with an HDMI cable to the LCD bigscreen. I haven't paid for "TV" service in a year.

...but a moose skull I found last fall while hiking. I kept the mandible bones and ditched the rest considering the poor shape it was in. I walked in circles for hours looking for some horns! All I saw were a few scattered vertebrate.

You can actually see 3 or 4 ski hills from this pond, I can never keep track of them. Jay and Stowe are much larger that this hill. This one, I believe, is Snow-Valley, a ski area that operated from 1938 until 1982. It was completely abandoned until about 5 years ago and bought by one guy to reopen as a private ski resort for friends and family! Can you imagine having that kind of money?! According to NELSAP.org (New England Lost Ski Area Project) he was suppose to build a house at the summit, and looking at the satellite pics from google earth, it appears he has. The pond BTW, is at about 2000'. Paultry for some of you guys out West, but substaintail for the microclimates of the Northeast, and usually freezes earlier than most. Unfortunatly it isn't very deep, and holds a zillion small/medium pickerel.

Man...I came close to buying an LCP. I had the advantage of putting a couple boxes of rounds through my friends prior to making a purchase. In the end I thought the recoil was just to much for my meat paws...I coundn't get an accurate second shot of quickly enough for my liking. I still think it's a great "little" heater, and am still tempted for the warmer months as you mentioned. Haven't shot an LCR yet however, which is now available in .357 mag.

Didn't quite make 50 here, but I was thinking the same in terms of heating costs...lol. I didn't even light the woodstove yesterday! Looks like return to normal later today. At least the "January Thaw" occurred partially in January this year.

I got out of work, unexpectedly, around 10AM on this Blue-Bird day! Kiddos and Wifey had playdate plans, so I was in the woods by 11. Temps soared from the single digits this moring to 37°F by noon. Thats actually the warmest we've had in weeks. Hardly a cloud in the sky, and a 20"ish powder snowpack. (Didn't need the snowshoes). I found his tracks in only 20 or so minutes, and flushed him not 5 minutes after that. The WMA I frequent is unmanaged forest and very (VERY!) thick. I caught a glimpse and knew he was in a tree nearby, but after sitting for over 2 hours, he didn't show himself so I moved on. After another hour and a half or so, the sun was getting low and the mercury began to plummet as well. Due to the warm temps, and big hill I climbed, I had worked up a sweat and started to get cold so I called a year. By the time I got back home the temp had dropped to 17°F, 20 degrees in 4.5 hours! The only shots I got off were with my camera, but not a bad way to end the hunting year....with a last minute, unforseen afternoon in the wilderness on a beautiful day. C'est la vie!

COOL!! "Another fun morning in the woods".....says it all. I've only seen a Bobcat twice in my life, both here in the Northeast. One ran across the road in a flash right in front of my car in western Mass. The other while I was in my canoe in the ADK's I spotted one about 60 yds down the shoreline. I just drifted silently and watched eat a mouse or something for about 10 minutes before is spotted me. Amazing.

Ever use a 12g to .410 reducer insert?
The Bug House replied to The Bug House's topic in Upland & Small Game

May I ask if you're still tobacco free? Part of my job is facilitating tobacco cessation classes, many of my clients often feel thier sleep cycle is disturbed.......
-
and would a full choke be the best option? I'd like to shoot a rabbit or partridge and be able to use my 12g without destroying the animal.

Worked 1900 - 0700 for 6+ years, got a promotion and been on day shift (0700 - 1500) for several months and my sleep is still not corrected. I'd gotten so used to fighting off fatigue, now I can't sleep even when I'm exhausted.

I just have a cheapo hand auger I bought about 15 years ago during the summer at a sporting good store for $20 or so. It seemed to hold up fine for a few years with just an end of the season sharpening. A couple of years ago I could only get about 10 holes before it was completely useless. Someone mentioned that if the center point is not straight and sharp, it won't cut either. I think that may be the case with mine. Being as cheap...err...frugal as I am, I knew there was an old spud bar laying around the camp. I sharpened up the blade and put some new line through the T piece and gave it a try. It works remarkably well for me. It probably weighs about 8lbs or so, and I've gotten through 24"+ of ice with not much problem at all. You can always tell were I've been by the square holes...lol! It also fits just perfectly in my sled.

It's not cold until you're gettin' frostbit through your tuque!

OOF! 40" on average..wow! I can only remeber twice having more than three feet (aboot a meter eh?) on 'my' lake. I've never owned a gas auger, but I used one before..sure is quick! I'm usually moving around a bit and don't set up a bob house. What do you use the large holes for, jigging? BTW - I looked on google maps where your camp is...I spent some time up there in cottage country a few years ago. Stayed in Huntsville for a few days before paddling around Algonquin PP for 2 weeks. We hit up a couple of small ponds around the park in the few days before we went in, I've never seen smallmouth like I did there! This was in late July, they were voracious! the lakies on the otherhand, were nowhere to be found:(

I've been using a chip bar the last few seasons when ice fishing. I get a 4"- 6" hole in about the same time and with the about the same effort, even in 20"+ of ice. I always seemed to dull the blades on my auger very quickly. Anyone else use a bar instead of an auger?
