LE carries .45 down there? Just about every agency around here carries a .40 (usually a Glock), there was plenty of .40 ammo around when other calibers were out of stock for months on end.

Holy Moly......what did he use a T square to stack that thing?

Arizona Congresswoman shot at town hall meeting
The Bug House replied to Newarcher's topic in Lounge
To quick. No motive yet? -
That looks great, LOVE the hearth. Man, I bet that gets right up to "Sauna temp" really quickly! I'm curious, what class is the can hanging on the wall? Is that an Ashley? Looks just like mine, but in much better shape. Mine's in the basement also, my house is about 1100 Sq Ft and buttoned up fairly well, I heat the entire house with the one stove in the basement, and supplement with oil forced air. I'm just on the cusp of zones 4/5 and I usually go through about 5 cords and 75 gallons give or take.

LOL! Didn't he call his cabin "Cold River Town Hall".....Pop. 1? I remember reading about Noah John Rondeau in The NYS Conservationist as a boy...and read an article just last summer in ADK Life, there were some great photos of his wood piles. I think this particular method is an old German technique, it also is designed to maximize space usage.

The weather. Without a doubt, meteorology has always been a fascination of mine, along with topography. As a child I would just study maps for hours on end, and would always obsess about the weather. I always had my own little homemade weather stations set up in different locations and would compare the readings. Once the somewhat sophisticated home weather stations came on the market I was in heaven! The very first birthday gift my GF (now wife of 8 years) gave me was a hand-held anemometer, she thought I was nuts. (Now she's sure of it!) I want to pursue a PhD in meteorology at some point, hopefully sooner than later. I really believe the weather plays a bigger role in our lives than we realize, there is an algebraic equation that measures the difference between the Oxygen in the air in our lungs, and the Oxygen in our blood...the first variable in that equation is the Barometric pressure. If the weather can affect the amount of O2 that gets into our blood, what else does it affect?

Cleaning off an SD card and I came across these from the past year or so. Some day I'll get a nice camera.

Cool video and great song.

Birds of prey are without a doubt some of the most majestic creatures. Great pics!

I guess just as long as any other stack! lol I wouldn't be able to keep enough draft with green wood, smolders and way to smokey. Maybe down south you can get away with that! I see a lot of outdoor wood furnaces can burn green though.

Oh yea, wanted it pretty badly myself years ago. Scored in the 96th percentile NYS police exam in 1992. Never heard anything, I was told that being a white male counted against you back then. College..life..more college...then more life..kids...before I knew it my....ahem...."late thirties":) snuck up on me.

I've seen it referred to as a Holtz Hausen. This is 2 cords I bought green and burned only 4 months later. If done properly it's supposed to accelerate drying of the wood, from green to seasoned in 3 months. I actually burned this before the several cords I cut and split the previous Fall. In my opinion, it works. I stacked this where it got about 10 hours of direct sunlight during late Spring / Summer days. The center is stacked vertical, it's supposed to facilitate a chimney effect. The top is placed bark up, as to drain the rainfall off. 3 cords is supposed to be roughly 10 feet tall, so you place a ten foot pole in the center (I used a straight 3" tree branch) and mark it at 8 feet. Since wood loses approximately 20% of its volume by the time its dry enough to burn, the mark becomes exposed when ready. My stove in in the basement, so I just load it into the crib through the windows next to the stack.

Why'd you leave law enforcement?

I'm only 37, but I watched that show quite often. Marty Stouffer as well.......I'd like to think they influenced my life to some extent. Of course in the land before internet and cable TV, when something like that came on you got excited!

Just about any of the Disney/Pixar movies, in fact Toy Story 3 just came out. Perhaps The Wizard of OZ. The Princess Bride is a good one as well......

Oh yea...Aaron Lewis New England country boy! Always liked Staind...this song as well.

Unfortunately I think that's all the "repeal movement" is at this point. More of a symbolic vote to appease voters. Even if it passes the House, it would never pass the Senate or a survive a Veto by the President. I'm all for healthcare reform, but this is little more than a requirement to buy into a "broken system". Let's start with tort reform and some personal accountability.

That's a lot of garbage!!!!

I don't know what weapon they'd be testing....... But I want one!!!!

How about the last 500 / 600 years? We have the unfortunate burden of having only about 150 years of data.

One heck of a coincidence, but certainly not outside the realm of possibility. The fish die-off by itself isn't terribly unusual.

It is , the fact that the term "global warming" is used so frequently while the correct term, "climate change" isn't. Like posted in the previous thread, all to often weather is confused with climate. Just because we're in a warming trend at this point in climatological history, doesn't mean we won't have record cold. All evidence suggests that warming and cooling cycles would occur with or without human presence on this planet. It appears that our activity on Earth may be contributing to said climate change, but the jury is still out. It's important to quantify our impact on the planet.

That was my first thought........tainted food source. An article I read suggested that the fish kill was a disease and unrelated to the birds.
