  1. It's not so much the broadhead that gets you when an arrow comes off the rest, it's the shattered back half thats going through your hand. So, a self contained or not this will and does happen with any rest. You don't have to put your finger in front a barrel to get shot or hurt, any obstructed barrel will do the damage too you. It just tells us to inspect our equipment before we use it. Now to get back on topic here, Sorry. I shoot a 30 inch draw and my arrows are 28 1/2", most designs on the bows risers today allow this. The longer you leave you arrow the weaker the spine is going to be, not allwoing for optimum arrow flight. You should really find a good dealer to help you out with your problem. You owe it to yourself and the animal to have your equipment tuned and shooting great.
  2. I wish you the best of luck and it sounds like you did the right thing by backing out. that stinks about the cat and yotes but maybe lady luck will on your side. Keep us updated and definately post some pictures of that brute.
  3. Welcome to the forums Tim and don't beat yourself up to bad. your story is better than hearing you took a head shot since that was your only shot. A full frontal shot can and is a lethal shot if you place the arow just right. The brisket is a tough area to get through and a good sturdy broadhead will do it. However, there is the area that is known as the triangle on a frontal shot and it's on either side of the brisket bone. I've taken a few deer with this shot and watched them fall within sight with the arrow having a complete pass through. "this shot is not recommended and more so no recommened for a novice bowhunter." More than likely you have made a killing shot on this buck and with you being so excited about this situation. You've walked past blood or even the deer. take your time and go slow. Good luck and use this situation to your advantage in the future.
  4. A 2" hole will not sill off, it may get plugged up with fat or something else. I've got a great picture of fat in a hole with my desktop picutre in the lounge. It looks like guts but is truly a large clump of fat. He went down witin 80 yards but didn't start bleeding until 40 yards from the shot.
  5. I'm glad someone asked this before me. LOL sorry about the bad hit but I'm sure you'll find her. Backing out was a good call.
  6. Congrats on the Doe! Yes, you can send a picture to your e-mail, I keep my address and a few others in my contacts just like phone numbers.
  7. Good job and it's a BHBD!:toot:
  8. Here's mine, it my P&Y 10 point and the way he fell in the woods.
  9. Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. I've not been hunting since muzzleloading and had no success. I do have Ohio coming up in three weeks and really looking forward to that. You guys be safe out there and lets kill some biggun with lots of points on their heads. Good Luck!
  10. Awesome buck and congratulations! He's definately a Poper and will probably go in the mid 140's.
  11. Great buck and congratulations on a great season so far for you.
  12. I am crying and blowing coffee out of my nose reading this, that was great!!!!! My experience happened about 6 years ago while heading to go bowhunting. Now, this story will be understood by those in the ages of 35+ years or older and into horror flicks. Remember the movie "It's Alive", about a jumping, two clawed fingered, fanged, killer baby-that killed all the nurses and doctors when it was born in the delivery room. This booger made some God awful cry and scared the bejusus out of me as a kid. Here's the scenario-I'm walking into my stand an hour before daylight and I here this scream that brings back memories of my childhood being scared to death of the killer baby. By the way, I had all ready beat the crap out of a fake babydoll stuffed into my sleeping bag while camping in the back yard that was put in there by my sister and mother. Anyway, this baby has risen from the dead and is now following me in the woods and I'm 50 yards from my stand. I'm 36 years old and scared to death and can actually here this thing walking in the leaves behind me and screaming at me. I just knew I was going to be eaten by this devil baby. I don't think I've ever climbed in my climber this fast when I reached it, after 10 minutes up in the tree; this thing leaves me alone. It took me a while and the comfort of daylight to calm down. About an hour after daylight, I here this scream again and it's coming my way. I grab my bow and going to shoot this dang thing that is got me shaking like a wet cat! As it comes closer and closer, my nerves are shot and then I see it. A huge bobcat is just lumbering along with something behind. The cat walks then stops, walks then stops, then I see what it is. A female fox is fuzzed up like a cat and screaming at this bobcat apparrently trying to ward it away from its den. It hit me, she was doing the same thing to me in the mornging walking in before daylight.. Fox or not, it brought back childhood memories and a great story my sister and mother cried laughing when I told them that the "It's Alive" baby was after in the woods, again!
  13. I guess as a Moderator we are the ultimate hunters and never lose a deer? Ha:clown: Ha:clown: Ha:clown: I could tell by Cody's typing he was visibly upset, he forgot words and some key phrases to tell us the whole story. I've been there and done that. Keep in mind, those who weren't there are quick to judge and karma will makes its way back around. When I was reading his first post and got to the end of it. I was just waiting for the bashing to begin, if we'd give as much patience to people as we do to hunting. We would get the whole story.
  14. I've hunted Ohio for 9 years now and some of my friends can't afford the price I :angel1: pay to hunt there or even know what part of Ohio it's in. Same thing with down east here, they just know that it's north of Raleigh somewhere. Good hunting land is hard to come by now-a-days and advertising it's locations are part of my hunting stories. I do enjoy sharing my stories with them and others, but locations go into the "VAULT".
  15. Great story and some great memories for the both of you. Congrats!
  16. It all depends on the moon phase; if it's very birght in the morning I take my time getting there. If it's dark nights, then I'll get there about 30 minutes before shooting light.
  17. You have a great point and I totally understand about hours put in to hunting locations and keeping them pristine. On the flip side, just like you said; it'll take seeing a 150" bucks' white flag to change someof them minds on shooting squirrels while deer hunting. I can remember the days of being bored in the stand and not seeing anything flinging arrows at squirrels, experience changes all that and it will come to these guys too.
  18. That was on here last year and I believe it was proved to be a real picture. cool none the less.
  19. Congratulations on your first one and she is a nice doe!
  20. Keep up the good huting guys! If I could kill a buck, that get rid of my Doe but 5 points is 5 points right now. I did go muzzleloading this a.m. but had no luck at all. I've got Ohio coming up in 4 weeks and boy I can't wait.
  21. Just under 3 dozen(Killed three deer so far and a squirrel and warched a deer run off with one in it's shoulder bone) GT Hunter XT's tipped with Muzzy 75's and 2 dozen GT X Cutters with 90 grain tips. I take 6 in the woods with me.
  22. I saw it the other day at Dick's but didn't get any, will wait until closer to the rut before deciding what I will try this year.
  23. Not that she would go behind my back on anything, I just like her on here. she enjoys being on here and I've got plenty of eyes on here to help me out. :clown: Besides, I've got control if her or someone else crosses the line on anything.:hammer1:
  24. Oh yes, they can't handle a 75 grain Muzzy, I laid one open yesterday evening with one. I don't understand an arrow bouncing off a squirrel but I guess stranger things have happened. Bloodtrailer-check the regs of the commenting person before hitting the post thread button..
