Re: Going to Montana! Whew guys shotgun opened this weekend in Indiana and I missed a true giant on opening morning. He came in with 6 does at 1030 and all the does crossed at 70 yards but one and she came in another way...when she got to 60 yards she pulled a 180 and went the other way....Not sure why, but the buck was stopped at 87 yards behind a falldown and only the top half of his vitals were visable. I tried to get a lean on the tree, but that put brush in the way. So I took a off handed shot and smoked that downed log right in front of him!!!!I couldn't believe it. It's my first miss with a gun in 16 years!!! I'm pretty sure he was well over 160 inches. He probably would have pushed B&C. I also passed up a 140 inch 8 about a hr later b/c I had a 150 inch 10 bedded down at 100 yards. What a mistake that ended up to be b/c I had a doe and small buck come and bed 15 yards in front of me looking straight in my direction. When the 10 got up he came to about 75 yards but I couldn't move with the two deer looking my way and I had to helplessly let him walk away....It was a great morning other than the miss. I saw 5 shooters in total and that is by far my best day.....GL to the rest of you and hopefully I score on the long weekend coming up. -

Re: Another Video Update from Kansas (nov 4,5) Nice and it makes me feel even better b/c now I know I'm not the only one that has trouble holding the camera still My buddy has been giving me crap about it.....keep them coming... -
Re: Staring contest WTN I was thinking the same thing. He might be 2.5, but a very small rack at that....

Re: Going to Montana! Here's a example of trigger speed. This is the first pic in the series of three. Now granted it probably would have caught him had the tree not been in the way.(You can tell it's a 1.5 buck b/c of body size and his tarsal gland on back leg) -

Re: Going to Montana! here's a pic of a little guy that came by the trail cam I just bought This is a stealth cam 1.3....Trigger time is absolutely horrible on this camera I might add. It take about 2.5 seconds to trigger....It only was 100 bucks, but be prepared to get some frustrating pics of bucks walking away... BTW this is a guy I passed on earlier this year. -
This little guy just didn't know what that was....

Re: What did I do when... <pic> It happens to everyone. Happened to me with a bow on a 10 pointer this year. Makes you about sick

Re: BBD in Indiana! nice deer...I was darn close to two big boys like that tonight but couldn't close the deal.....

Re: A KY monster (Pic) He's a monster but they will have to score him as a non-typical b/c of deductions to get a plus 200 score...I bet his gross typical is well over 200 though...

The Rutgers win will go down as the college, and maybe even the best sporting event of the past year at the ESPY's when they come up. It was truly a great game to watch. Sorry if people turned it off or missed it.

Re: Going to Montana! Well guys tonight was a rough one. I've been hunting since Wed every day and I got my shot tonight at a nice 10 pointer. I thought he was at about 35 yards and shot him for that. Well he ended up being 46 after I ranged it later. I hit him in the front leg just below the body. He ran off about 40 yards and then came back in after the doe he was with b/c she didn't run. I never got that second shot and he ended up chasing her down into the woods farther. After the shot I couldn't understand what happened b/c even though the range was wrong my arrow was tracking perfect up until the hit. Once we saw where he was standing at we realized that the was brush right in front of him about 5 feet. I'm guessing my arrow had to deflect down and forward off that brush to make it hit him in the leg like it did. The reason I know it hit him in the leg is b/c I got my binoc's up and saw blood covering his right front leg. He bled for about 50 yards and then dried up. I'm pretty positive it wasn't fatal b/c he came back in after the doe and then ran her off and I watched him go. I'm about sick to my stomach right now even thinking about it. I won't be hunting until shotgun in a couple weeks b/c of other committments, but hopefully I will get a nice deer then. It's definitely frustrating to hunt that hard and then get the shot and have this happen. I passed through that frint leg b/c there was blood on all three veins of my arrow, but he did use that leg when he was going away. He didn't want to put weight on it at first, but he sex drive took over and he began to use it when going after the doe again. One positive note is that I have seen about 6 different shooter bucks including this one while hunting. He is the smallest of the 4 ten's and there are two 8's that are right around his size. This is by far the most shooters I have seen in one year of hunting. Let's hope I get to them before the neighbors do in shotgun. -
Re: Finally got one nice and GL on the big one

Re: Saw 9 different buck this morning!!! Yeah I will say though that I was suprised after watching the video that it didn't bust his spine. This is the first time that I can honestly say after a deer was shot that I'm fairly confident he will live. As long as he doesn't get any infection in his spine he should be fine

Re: Saw 9 different buck this morning!!! Well there's a second part of the story that I intentionally left out....I was videotaping my buddy hunting...We probably saw 25 deer total and also had deer in sight literally the whole time. At 915 he was looking to shoot a doe on video and a big 8 came into view. He came to 45 yards and then turned around. I hit the can call and he came in on a string. The video was great and he stopped broadside at 7 yards. My buddy shot but unfortunately he hit high and forward. He was using expandable broadheads, which is a whole other story that I won't go into, but he only got about 3-4 inches of penetration. The buck ran about 75 yards and stopped for about 2 minutes looking around and then walked off. He didn't walk with a limp and no blood was coming from his nose. He got down and found the arrow about 5 yards into his run with literally only two drops of blood on it. There was no blood on the ground either. We backed out for 3 hours and then went back and canvassed the area to no avail. I just hate posting about losing a deer. But to answer your question we got down at 945 and there were still deer moving. He had shots at other does after that but since he already hit the buck we weren't going to take any chances on another deer. The main reason they were moving all morning was b/c a front was coming in as well.....

140" or better.. How many have U seen in your life

Re: 140\" or better.. How many have U seen in your I'd say about 2-5 every year, and that's enough for me to know that I have it pretty good compared to some. I've killed one over 140 and one in the 130's...I always seem to see them during bow season has been the problem and the closest was 45 yards and that was my first year bowhunting and I wasn't comfortable at the range at the time. Now if they do that now, I'm playing some string music -
Re: Smoked Checked a 10 point!!! nice buck and way to stay with the tracking job!

Re: Going to Montana! Well guys I had a great last day of hunting. Last night I saw 3 bucks, but no shooters and this morning I saw 9 different bucks!! We hunted two different locations, but that is a great sign that the rut is starting to happen. I have taken off work for part of next week to hunt, so hopefully I upgrade that doe in the next couple of days. -
That is by far a career high for the number of bucks seen in one sitting. 3 were shooters and the rest were small. They also were pushing the does a little bit as well. I can see things really heating up in the next four days...
