OK, here's the deal. (1) The "contest" is for current forum members only, you must have been registered as of today to be eligible. (2) You must be signed up in this thread by Oct 31 to be eligible. It will end Dec. 31. (if some of your seasons end later than that please let me know and I'll extend the finish date) (3) The game animal can be anything as long as it was taken with a handgun. (4) The winner will be determined by the signed up members. I will post a poll later assuming we have some critters taken..... Pictures of you with the harvested game will be required for your entry. If you have issues posting pictures, drop me a PM and we'll get it worked out. (5) This little thing dosen't have anything to do with any other contests currently running on this board. If you are signed up elsewhere that's cool. What takes place here is my doing and Realtree is in no way responsible. When you sign up please list what you'll be hunting with and what critter you'll be after. If there is anything that you guy's would like added please let me know..... Here's what you'll be gunning for..... It'll be this style cap with a Hardwoods Green pattern. hangunnr

Re: New Project I sure like my .50 cal barrel. I went ahead and took the scope off and installed the fiber optic sights. I want to cut down a .45 cal Encore ML barrel to pistol length. hangunnr

Re: My first Archery Pheasant Nice shot.... I stuck one about 20 years ago on state land while out deer hunting. Caught a ration of crap from the C.O. at the check station because I wasn't signed in for small game. The bird was a legal kill but in those days you had to sign in for a specific type of hunting. hangunnr

Spent friday night taking in a Ted Nugent show. If you've never seen Nuge you have to experience him live to appreciate his energy..... Then came opening day of the regular archery season here in Indiana. Within an hour and a half of sunrise I had both my bonus county tags filled. Got some awesome video footage of two young bucks and a somewhat rare Indiana river otter. Nothin better that a stretched rope...... hangunnr

Re: 460 My local shop has a used one in perfect condition for $850. If I hadn't just purchased two XP-100s it would be mine. (it may still be if it sits there very long ) I hope I'm the Chuck on your list JJL..... hangunnr

Re: This is kinda cool..... [ QUOTE ] Might be too bulky to fit the action, but I'd like to see a 22 mag over a 410 combination. [/ QUOTE ] While this would at times be handy, I think you would have to have a barrel length of at least 16" to be legal. This would be pretty heavy for a handgun. Because of the spacing of the firing pins in the Contender frame any other calibers larger than the rimfires wouldn't fit. hangunnr

Re: Thumbhole stocks [ QUOTE ] They do aid in offhand shooting and from a benchrest. [/ QUOTE ] I like a thumbhole for offhand standing shots as it lowers the elbow allowing you to pull it closer to the body. I absolutely hate a thumbhole when shooting off a bench. I find the angle it puts the trigger hand very awkward from a bench position. hangunnr

Re: Shoot thru scope mounts [ QUOTE ] I prefer my scope mounted as close to the barrel as I possibly can get it. [/ QUOTE ] Me too!! I want my cheek firmly set on the stock. I believe it leads to a more consistant sight picture and a much more stable shot. hangunnr

Re: Bolt Action??? Not mine........I don't own anything anywhere near that nice..... Found the pic on another site and thought it was good for a laugh.. hangunnr

Re: Which pistol to buy???? If these are your final choices you won't go wrong with any of them. You basically just have to deceide which feels best in your hand, all will perform well. If it were me I'd go with the Kimber........I'm kinda partial to their guns. hangunnr

Came across this today while researching some barrel replacement services. This company is offering an over/under rimfire barrel for the contender handguns. If the barrels are regulated properly this would be kinda neat to have. The following is a cut-n-paste form their webpage. The JKL offers T/C Contender shooters a unique new twist in barrel design. The over and under barrel for rim fire ammunition only allows the Contender shooter a quick follow up on varmints and the accuracy for targets. How The JKL Works The JKL barrel mounts the same as conventional (single) barrels on any T/C Contender frame. However, because of its ability to 're-****' without breaking the action open, the new Contender G-2 is best suited for this design. With the barrel now mounted the shooter can choose which barrel to fire first. Moving the selector switch (on the hammer) to the rim fire position allows the top barrel to fire. Flipping it to the center fire position allows the bottom barrel to fire. The same is achieved with the Original Contender but, obviously, the shooter will have to break the action in order to re-**** the gun. Scoped or open sites the JKL is just one of the many accurate innovations you'll be seeing from On Target Technologies. Look for more details, information and field tests in a forth coming edition of The TCAs Publication 'One Good Shot'. You can check out their website HERE . hangunnr

Re: Scope Mount A good smith would be able to hide the drilled and tapped holes under the original sight when it's installed. The problem is, if you were wanting to go with one of the Weigan type mounts is the front screw size is different from the old style S&W sights and the new. This would present a problem. I really can't answer how much a smith would charge for this service. I get my small machine shop services for free. If I were to hazard a guess I would say $30-$50 would be in the ballpark. I've known guys that charged a flat rate of $10 per hole drilled and tapped if they already had the required tools. hangunnr

Remington Fights to Keep Steam at Ilion NY Plant
hangunnr replied to WNY_Whitetailer's topic in Shotguns & Accessories
Re: Remington Fights to Keep Steam at Ilion NY Plant I find it almost unbelievable that a company the size of Remington dosen't have their own powerhouse to supply their needs. hangunnr -
Re: Scope Mount [ QUOTE ] Check out <a href="www.jackweigand.com" target="_blank">Jack Weigand's Web Site</a>. I have a Weigand Scope mount on my Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter and it is rock solid. I would buy from him again with no hesitation... [/ QUOTE ] Weigands stuff is top notch. They make a very nice product for sure. hangunnr

Re: Scope Mount Your options are somewhat limited if you don't want to drill and tap. Brownells lists a no drill mount manufactured by B-Square. The part number is 122-200-110. I've got one of the older versions of this mount and have had no problems with it. hangunnr

Re: Scope Mount Does your gun have the newer style front sight as in the picture or is the front edge squared off? If your gun is the same as pictured it is already drilled and tapped. If you have the older model, there are a couple mounts available. Let me know which you have and I'll track down a mount for you. hangunnr

Re: hand gun sighting My iron sighted guns are sighted dead on at 40yds. My hunting handguns with optics will be zeroed differently for different calibers. The .44 mags will be zeroed for 75yds, the muzzleloader for 50yds and the centerfire singleshots anywhere from 100-225yds. hangunnr

Re: Ammo suggestion for deer. Is this the post you were looking for? The Winchester ammo loaded with the Nosler Partition handgun bullet is still IMO the best on the market. This isn't by any stretch a bear load but would be the best offering if that is the only chambering you have available. hangunnr

what's the longest shot made with your ML's
hangunnr replied to a topic in Bluelk's Muzzleloader Room
Re: what\'s the longest shot made with your ML\'s [ QUOTE ] Please delete all my posts fully, not just partially. I for one do not appreciate having posts edited for no good reason by anyone. Also, delete my membership here. Bluelk would certainly have been proud of what you boys have done to this forum. [/ QUOTE ] Oh good lord.......There is no need to get all worked up over this. I removed the off topic content only. You entered this thread off topic, then when called on it you made a sharp remark then finally got around to answering the original question. If sticking to the topic and not snapping at people isn't for you then this board most likely isn't for you. If sharing your knowledge of ML shooting and helping the newbies apeals to you then you are more than welcome to participate. hangunnr -
Re: Tactical Thigh Holster The only thing I would consider adding to your rig is a string or something to that effect at the muzzle end to keep it securely anchored to your leg. The cowboy rigs use a tie off at the muzzle end for this purpose. I've got some chute cord that would work well, if you would like some, PM me a mailing addy and I'll get some sent your way. hangunnr

Re: Tactical Thigh Holster Looks like it should work OK. How much does the gun move when you walk? hangunnr
