Re: Where online to buy ammo? For informal shooting I'd shoot .38 specials for sure. Just be sure to brush out the cylinder charge holes when switching back to magnum loads. You may find extraction of the longer mag cases to be difficult if you don't. .38 special ammo is generally a whole lot cheaper and easier on the gun than the full house loads. If you don't have plans to reload, the CCI Blazer line of ammo is hard to beat. They offer a 125gr FMJ I believe... There are many ranges that mandate FMJ or totally encapsulated (electroplated) bullets. The plated bullets can usually be had a little cheaper than the FMJ stuff if you can find them. hangunnr

Re: Alaskan The fireball would be spectacular in low light conditions. This gun just might be the ticket if'n you were in big bear country and ya had something against taking a front to back trip through the critter. hangunnr

Re: Where online to buy ammo? Yeah I know....... Darn "puter is having conniptions..... Let's try again.... Midway USA has quite a selection of .357 mag ammunition. While there, you may also want to check out their selection of .38 special ammo. hangunnr

Re: Alaskan I'd have to think with a barrel as short as the Alaskan revolvers sport, that the muzzle flash would be horrendous. I suppose they have their place. I sure wouldn't want to put too many rounds down range through one. hangunnr

what's the longest shot made with your ML's

Re: what\'s the longest shot made with your ML\'s [ QUOTE ] I'd be very interested in how many of you taking 125 yd plus shots are using scopes and how many are open sights. [/ QUOTE ] I use a Leupold 2.5X8 Vari-X III on my Remmy. My screwed up eyes don't see iron sights all that well. hangunnr -
what's the longest shot made with your ML's
hangunnr replied to a topic in Bluelk's Muzzleloader Room
Re: what\'s the longest shot made with your ML\'s 147yds.......Three Pyro pellets under a 240gr XTP and a T/C Mag sabot, lit off by a RWS musket cap. With a good rest I'd feel alright about taking a shot out to 200yds or so. hangunnr -
Re: Tactical Thigh Holster Can't say I've ever seen a thigh holster for a relatively long barreled revolver. You may well have to make your own..... hangunnr

Re: hmm, glock .40 + hot loads = bad news A blown gun dosen't necessarily mean a double charge. He very well could of had a squib load with enough power to lodge a bullet in the barrel and still chamber the next round. This gets real exciting if the shooter isn't paying attention and goes ahead and rips off the next round. [ QUOTE ] Just an FYI .......... I try to choose a powder that's bulky enough to overflow on a double charge. [/ QUOTE ] I do this too. There is literally no room for a mistake. You usually end up with a much more consistant performer, opposed to using a powder that only partially fills the case. hangunnr

if u were to get a t/c contender????
hangunnr replied to hangunnr's topic in Hand Guns & Accessories
Re: if u were to get a t/c contender???? [ QUOTE ] 7-30 Waters...If I were into reloading... [/ QUOTE ] Federal offers a good 140gr load so you could go ahead and get the 7-30 without having to handload. hangunnr -
if u were to get a t/c contender????
hangunnr replied to hangunnr's topic in Hand Guns & Accessories
Re: if u were to get a t/c contender???? The Contender isn't chambered for calibers such as the .243 or .308 Win. You'd have to move on up to the Encore if you wanna shoot those. [ QUOTE ] i like the 308 winchester. best roudn the 30 cal guys ever came up with rob k [/ QUOTE ] I agree!! hangunnr -
My next barrel will likely be a .357 Remington Max. Why, because I don't have one yet..... I would also like to have a stainless .45 cal muzzleloader barrel fitted to my Contender frame. hangunnr

Re: hmm, glock .40 + hot loads = bad news [ QUOTE ] glock says if you use your own loads, the warranty is void [/ QUOTE ] Seems pretty clear what they're telling you about using reloads in their guns....... If he was straight up with them about how the gun puked I would guess they'll send it back as they received it as he clearly voided the warranty. If your friend was loading lead bullets that is a major NO-NO in the hexagonal rifilng the Glock barrels sport. There are plenty of aftermarket drop-in barrels available if you want to shoot reloads through your Glocks. hangunnr

Re: has any shot the s&W 460? Not yet........ I will have one. At least that's what I keep telling myself. hangunnr

Re: Ammo for 357 magnum There are many good defense loads out there today. The aforementioned Winchester SXT (supreme expansion talon) is a good load. It is the same load as the Black Talon minus the black coating on the bullet. I wasn't aware that the NAACP was involved in the bruhaha surrounding it's removal from the marketplace. I was under the impression Winchester caved to the mess the liberal idiots in the national press spread about it being a cop killer bullet. I think it's funny as **** that Winchester could eliminate one manufacturing process from a bullet by not coating it, rename it, repackage it and put it back in the marketplace and the pants wetters in the press didn't have a problem with it. Goes to show the mentality........ Any of the defense loads from Corbon, Federal, Winchester or just about any mainstream manufacturer will perform well. The best one for your gun will only be found by trying them until you find the most accurate one. hangunnr

Re: Rossi Hand gun [ QUOTE ] Sorry for the bad info I thought that they were made in the same factory-must be something else i was thinking of... [/ QUOTE ] Not the same factory as of yet. It may get to that in the future it just hasn't happened yet. hangunnr

Re: Rossi Hand gun [ QUOTE ] They do say that they have all the Taurus saftey features, which implies that they are the same gun with a different stamp. I thought the same thing. Don't feel bad. [/ QUOTE ] Taurus owns Rossi. Bought them out a couple years back. The Rossi brand guns just haven't caught up with the Taurus yet. Give them some time to use up the NOS Rossi has and you should see their guns up to the same standards as the Taurus. hangunnr

Re: 44mag This is about as wide open a question as you could ask. You can spend anywhere from a couple hundred bucks to a couple grand. What type of gun did you have in mind? hangunnr

Re: Rossi Hand gun [ QUOTE ] They are the same thing as a Taurus. [/ QUOTE ] Not even close to the quality of a Taurus. The Rossi guns are without question very near the bottom of the quality list. If you have one, and it works, then it's a keeper. They are known to shoot loose after a short while. They aren't what I would bet my life on. hangunnr

Re: handguns I'm not really very fond of the Hi-Point guns. They fit into the "better than no gun" category. There are much better choices out there. hangunnr

Re: Still considering a pistol Congrats!!! Please let us know how well it shoots when you get the chance. hangunnr

Re: My lil Chippy Friend My dad has been up to the same thing. There's been two of these guys that'll eat right out of your hand. hangunnr

Re: handguns I'd say he would be getting the better part of the deal by a long shot. Here's a link to the Hi-Point website. These guns MSRP is around $200 new. You can just about knock that value in half for a used specimen. Unless you really want the guns I would pass on this "deal". hangunnr

What difference does it make what ammo is used as long as you acheive your objective of killing the yote? Are you looking at saving the pelt? If so, then I'd stick with a FMJ type bullet if using a caliber as large as a .308 Win. hangunnr

Re: Still considering a pistol [ QUOTE ] I did some more thinking (which could be dangerous ) about the longer barrel so I'm going back later today to look again. I think I might look at the S&W 44 Mountain Gun again as well. [/ QUOTE ] Now you're talkin..... With the availability of some really good .44 special ammo and the ability to shoot full house .44 mag ammo this gun can do it all. If I were looking to carry a big bore revolver in a steel frame model this would my first choice. hangunnr
