  1. Wow...I don't think I'd change a thing...that is some awesome patterning!

    Night shift

I work 2 - 12 hr shifts a week, 11a-11p usually, but last night was a late one, didn't get out till almost 1am....that's more than enough night shift for me. In the past worked a couple 11p-7a shifts and once a 7a-7p. I am not a night person.
  3. Thanks Tim. You are right, it's something that should be fun and enjoyable, not something to get to caught up in to the point the fun is gone.
  4. Anyone shooting 5-spot over the winter? I just started shooting a 5-spot league, first time shooting 5-spot, and I have to say it is like a weightlifter doing reps....it's a marathon! I'm also learning my thumb release while doing this so it is a challenge. Last week shot something like 271, this week 288. I forget the X count but both times I think in the low to mid 20s.
  5. Last fall the archery shop I use quite frequently asked me to join their pro-staff. I have a shooter shirt and essentially have to wear that at archery shoots and shoot my one bow, which they sell, when at shoots or at the shop. So I'm looking at selling my Mathews, picking up a new bow for hunting, maybe 3D. I was leaning towards Hoyt (which they also sell) or recently shot a Bowtech Reign at another shop I'm shooting a league at. My pro-staff shop does not sell Bowtech so of course, I guess I couldn't shoot it at shoots as it not being one of their products. Just wondering, if you were on pro-staff, would that hinder you at all deciding between a bow you love but can't represent the shop with, or choose a bow that you only like but are representing the shop with? I'm waiting to shoot another Hoyt but this was a dilemma that came to mind.
  6. Wow..I shot a Bowtech Reign 6 today....It will probably be my new bow...beats my Mathews and Elite....bow fit like a glove. Shot a Carbon Defiant afterwards....nothing to compare...Bowtech has got a sweet shooting bow.
  7. Slate Call: Either my A&J Custom Slate call or Duel Blodgett Series call. Diaphragm: A have several but Mountain Hollow is one I use alot. Gobbler: Don't use Box Call: I have a Sweetwater Calls box call. Actually bought it from a local Amish store.
  8. Went to some state land to look for sheds and try to get some grouse. No sheds but I have never flushed so many grouse, ever! I flushed 1, couldn't get it. Kept on walking through a clear cut that is now a few years old...lots of thick brush and saplings. I stop, hear a grouse flush, can't see it, walk a few feet then another flushes, and another, then one behind me, then another one in front of me. I have never been in the middle of a grouse flock...Could never get a good shot off on the ones I did see, they are tough! I know where to go back though! Great to see/hear so many grouse. Must be low hunting pressure/predation.
  9. Beautiful deer and mounts!!
  10. Was cleaning out my message inbox so I could send a PM. Came across some messages from members like The_Kat, Horst, toddyboman. Lots of good names from the olden days.
  11. Strut10 - I just went to my inbox to send you a PM and got the same message, says my inbox is full. Basically won't let me do anything.
  12. Yes. He hangs around on another hunting forum. I'll tell him the RT guys were asking about him.
  13. A few of you may remember A & J Custom calls. I have a few of his, not sure if he still does them. Does anyone know of anyone who does custom turkey calls? The archery shop I'm on their pro-staff at, they are going to do a turkey seminar in the spring. I want to do something for them and thought about maybe I could find a deal on a custom call to donate for them to give away (raffle/prize,etc). Any suggestions?
  14. Nice looking pup Ross, congrats! I'd like a chocolate lab someday. For names, I'm not sure: Browning? Cedar? Flint? I do think there is a better name out there for him than Scratch, and you'll find it!
  15. Check with your local veterinarian, he/she may know of someone.
  16. Definitely interesting. i would guess a good size buck. Was there a pile of bark rubbings at the tree base? Seems too low for a cat but at just the right height for a buck to hang his head down and rub the tree. Seems a cat would be higher and less gnarly?
  17. Found these beauties on state land yesterday. Earliest yet I've ever found sheds, and a beautiful 8 point matched set at that! Definitely was not expecting such an awesome find! About 50 yards apart.
  18. I also am a 26" DL. From my research It seems the turbo was a stiffer draw, not as smooth at the Carbon Defiant. Let me know how you like them.
  19. Maybe some small game hunting and put a few practice shots through the bow for indoor league.
  20. Thanks guys! Wow Strut10...I can't believe you didn't see anything! We went to the visitor center first and saw the big guys there then drove down the road, so more from an overlook...then drove more and found where a bunch were out feeding behind some cottages, then coming back into a small town there were more!! It's a raffle to draw an elk tag in PA isn't it?
  21. Wait...Buckee is back!!?? When?? LOL, how awesome, welcome back buddy! Nice shots!
  22. I was going to sell my Mathews Halon then today I was shooting it and was like "maybe it's not so bad" lol. Not sure yet but yesterday I did hold a Carbon Defiant....I do like the grip and talk about light weight, not top heavy like the Halon. I want to try out a Carbon Defiant and Pro Defiant.
  23. One thing to keep in mind that I try to be careful about is when skinning the deer, especially a buck, don't touch the tarsal glands and if you do, wash your hands before finishing the deer. Never had the meat on any deer though be strong, but we also tend to hang the deer and let it age, a week or so if possible. Although this year the front shoulder on a deer I had shot hung for a few days. Rest of deer was fine but I don't know if there was some blood trapped in this shoulder but it got a little strong and off smelling so I tossed the front shoulder, to play it safe.
  24. Welcome back Joe!! I'm here, been slacking, but still around!
  25. This does help. I was at my bow shop last night, had a little bit longer D-loop put on and worked on getting the release adjusted to my liking and did some shooting with it. When I did execute a good shot, I knew it. Pulled a few times. It is a learning curve but I am determined to stick with it. Trying to develop my firing routine/mechanism. My bow is also about 1/2" too short which does make it difficult, the longer D-loop helps.
