Ok, first of all I will get my buck photos up tonight, I think. I know you all can't stand the suspense Anyway what this post is about is I am going to have a good wind tonight to hunt 2 stands, but which one? I've my antlerless tag so it'd be nice to get a nice doe. Both stands are between bedding areas and fields the deer feed in. the one stand (the one I got deer from for the last 5 years till recently ) is near a grassy/hay field about 50 yards inside the woods. the other stand is near a cut corn field about 100 yards inside the woods. My feeling is the deer are hitting the corn fields right now, but maybe I should hunt the stand I've had so much luck from in the past, I don't know. the stand by the corn field andy has hunted this season and is where he shot a spike and lost it, then got a doe from on Sunday morning and also hit a doe but didn't kill her the same morning. What do you think?

Re: Darn dentist I know, I hate going to the dentist because when I go, it's the saem scenario. You have a cavity - floss more. I do, every day! Of course when my sister goes, she doesn't have a cavity, go figure!

Re: hunting privelages STOLEN! Legally!! Well I hope everything works out. I'm surprised a state agency like the PGC would do something so...erradic unless they had a legitimate reason. Of course now a days you get new young guys fresh out of training and they have a high ego and go on a major power trip - probably not all but some. I would suggest staying low key and don't do anything to provoke anything and if this is all true, best of luck to you. Oh, and welcome to Realtree!

Re: Team 16 Well I was blessed with a 7 point last night! Will get some photos up tonight! Remember, if you shoot a bigger deer later in the season, you can always replace your current entry with that one:-) That's my hope when shotgun comes around, lol, but I'm very happy with my buck. Good luck everyone!

Well this is my 6th year bowhunting and the last 5 years I've gotten a deer from the same stand. I broke that tradition last night Just a few facts before the story: 1st deer with new bow 3rd buck with bow in 6 years bow hunting Broke the drought of no buck, archery or shotgun, last 2 years Ok, here's the story. I'll post photos later on when I'm home. So about 4pm I head tothe climber that Andy had moved by the scrape, the one I posted about yesterday. About 1 mile walk later through a muddy corn field, I climb up about 20 feet, get settled, and start waiting. I was expecting the buck to come off the hill in front of me as they bed up there, but there is a bedding area down behind me so I was watching both places. I was feeling a little optimistic and when I got in the stand, I said a prayer to God, asking that if it was His will tonight, Hed bless me with a deer, and if not, it's His will to So time passes and I read down to check the time on my watch in the pack - says 5:34pm. I stick it back in, zip the pocket and then I don't remember if I heard a stick crack or God just told me look behind you, but I look behind me and about 30 yards away is a buck! He feeds around, looks behind him, and out comes another buck! I stand up and have m bow in hand. The first buck has a short, narrow rack, the second buck has a narrow but taller rack, not sure how many points, but I wasn't going to be choosey. I'm praying "please God" The first buck works his way right up to the hemlock with the scrape. I turn a little, then the buck rears up on his hind legs and sticks his rack into the branch! Very cool, and I draw my bow. He stands back and was sniffing the ground I think, I put my 10 yard pin on him and thwap! I see that arrow hit him and he takes off. The hit looked a little high but not too high, and i had aimed slightly high anyway because of being higher up than usual. I get the climber down which seems to take forever, lol, and I tried not to shake myself off the tree I walk over to find the arrow stuck in the scrape, covered in blood. Ok, I had to have hit this deer good. I look around, find some blood, find his tracks in the ground, start to slowly follow his tracks. Where's all the blood? Did I hit him too low or miss him? I swear I hit this deer, I saw the arrow go in him! This is all racing in my mind. Well about 30 yards on his trail, I start to find some blood...then a little bit of stomach matter. Oh great, I gut shot this deer, how did I hit him that far back? Well there was some blood with bubbles to so I had to have hit some lung. I'm really slow following the trail, then I find where he stopepd running and started walking, now I'm about 15 yards from the other stand down the logging trail. Now there is a bunch of blood and a line of stomach matter. I go under this dead tree, look up and there he is! He's dead! Woohoo! I go over, find he has 4 points on one side, 3 on the other = a 7 point. My second biggest buck ever, though he is just a trophy as any deer and I'm so proud of him! Find out I actually made a betetr shot than I did as he had been quartering away from me when I shot although it had been hard to tell, so the entrance wound hit a little back and high but exited a little lower and near the opposite shoulder, so I had a decen shot after all. Must have nicked the stomach going through but it wasn't too bad actually. I get him cleaned, called home on the radio. Waiting for Andy to come home from work and come help me. I did managed to drag him about 200 yards out of the woods so wait for Andy. so I didn't get to bed until quarter to 11 last night but it was worth it. Photos to come later! Sorry for the book I just wrote Oh and I forgot to mention - when those bucks were coming in, my heart was pounding so hard, I literally thought it was going to jump out of my chest or the deer would hear it! Holy cow, lol!

Re: My new 4-wheeler!!!!!!! I would love to have an ATV, it's my dream, but personally I don't think I could ever afford paying what some of do on ATV's... Besides that cost you've got gas and maintenance and you can't take it with ya....good luck with it though; I hope it's fun, lol!

Re: Help! what should I do? they aren't college kids - they are from a local public school, lol. I'm assuming high schoolers probably.
-
Re: Opening Day Congrats! That's a nice buck!!! I live about 1.5 hours south of Buffalo - we go up there maybe once/twice a year to shop. Nice to see another NYer on here and welcome!

Re: Name Change? Let me hear your opinion How about McH1? I like your current name though... I'd say anything but the Dustin ones, lol.
-
Re: Help! what should I do? Yeah, i might try both but Iknow they need help so i'm going to try to lifeguard. In honest truth, I thought not lifeguarding when they need help, so I can hunt, is a little selfish, lol. I get paid althought it's only 2 hours, but I'm God's servant and if He has it in his plan to bless me with a deer this week, like tonight, He will!
-
So I was planning on deer and turkey hunting all weekend. Well I was asked if I wanted to lifeguard for a local school lock-in at the college, from midnight to 2am. I wouldn't mind lifeguarding as it is good experience, but I'd hate to give up my morning hunt because I would be so tired that I wouldn't hunt in the a.m. Of course, I may get a deer between tonight and Friday night and then I would lifeguard. Any thoughts on what I should decide?

Would liek to hear what you guys thing So I've mentioned a few times before about the stand i'veb ene hunting mostly, due to the wind, is on an old logging trail with rubs on some trees about 15 yards to my right. To my left is a Hemlock swamp the deer bed in. The stand is about 150-200 yards in from a cut corn field and when you walk in on the logging trail, there is a hemlock tree with a massive scrape under it. this is the scrape I've been talking about that when I walk in, it looks like it was done in the last 12-24 hours, and when I've walked out at night, it has been done while I was in the stand - that is how hot this scrape is and even Andy last night said he's never seen a bigger scrape. Well since this buck likes hitting that scrape and doesn't come down the trail to wherem y stand is, he moved the one climber from a different spot to about 10 yards from the scrape so I can catch this guy coming to his scrape. I think he comes off the hill. andy thinks this is a dominat buck since the rubs where there early and this scrape is being checked so often. What do you guys think? Do you think I've got a decent buck on my hands or just an average deer? Of course no matter what the size, if he comes in, he's going to be ambushed by me,lol. Will have a great wind tonight and with the cold temps., should have some action.

Re: SNOW!!!!! I take that back, LMBO! It's starting to snow a little bit. Not like huge flakes but hey, snow is snow....:-)

Re: SNOW!!!!! I wish it would snow here, nothing yet though. It's all south of where I live.

Re: Unbelievable 295\"+ Ohio buck! That guy holding the buck can't be Amish. #1 the clothing is not Amish, lol, and #2 the Amish do not take pictures and would not allow pictures to be taken of themselves. Of course that isn't NY state so I don't know how the Amish differ in other states but a job well done to the Amish hunter!

Well it's been a busy weekend - now I'm at work, lol, yeah yeah....students should be doing their jobs so I don't have too much to do. Anyway I spent most of Saturday at the NYS Outdoor Ed. Conference, then I hunted Sunday morning - Andy got a doe, I saw nothing. Weather too nasty to be in thewoods Sunday afternoon. I hope we get the snow they are talking about, would make hunting a little better and I'dl ike to get out after some fall turkeys and see if I can break that 2.5 year turkey drought even though I'm not up to be skunked another year of turkeys. Guess I'll see what the weather brings later after work...
