  1. Re: So this is what it feels like...(long) Possibly a liver shot? Andy has had a few liver shots and the blood is usually dark red and while he has usually recovered them they have gone quite a ways. Sounds like a deer I shot last fall. Came out of my stand, walking into a corn field, a doe comes walking up the corn field right at me, she probably came about 25 yards broadside and I shot. Found dark red blood, good at first, but couldn't find her. Went out the next and picked upthe trail again but then it stopped and didn't find her until the spring, then just a skeleton. Don't let it get you down, keep at it!
  2. Re: Congrats to everyone! Andrea? LMBO! Thinking of hunting_girl? We were Christmas exchange partners soo....lol, just teasing.
  3. Don't know about the rest of you but I think by 7am, I'll be out in the woods after some fall squirrels. Going to go into the 30s and frost tonight and be clear out which means, to me, a really good morning of squirrel hunting. I'll think I'll go to my fav spot which is a beech ridge over looking a huge old shagbark hickory that the squirrels flock to this time of year. And being calm out, should hear nuts falling from far away! Good luck to anyone who goes out Probably my last outing or 2nd to last outing before deer season.
  4. Re: You can add this to my christmas list. Wow! I want to see some of the students at college here play one in chapel when they have a student group play; that would be cool, lol Must be Buckee's guitar...
  5. I decided to post this here since I know everyone comes in here. I was looking in the deer hunting, bow hunting, and the contest entries. To those of you who have tagged a deer already, or are still our there trying to fill that tag, congratulations to you and a job well done! I'm sitting here on lunch break in a dorm (my work place, lol) and to see photos and read stories of your hunts is inspirational and makes me even more excited for the season to come! I look forward to just be out in the woods sitting in a stand, taking in everything God has made; it's not about the kill, it's about being out there Call me crazy but if you are ever in the woods someday with me, you'll find out how much the woods are home Anyway no matter what, good job friends and enjoy being out there. Deer season comes once a year
  6. Re: Team 16 Hey everyone! woohoo I'm proud to be on a team with all of you; let's kick some butt! Well i'm in Ny and the land I hunt normally is a few hundred acreas of farmland - not sure how much the farmer owns exactly, but I can walk and be on it in about 10-15 minutes or we usually drive the car down the road and up one of the tractor paths, park and walk to a stand. Several fields of either corn or alfalfa. I may be hunting a new piece of land this season also. A neighbor has been using Andy's help on surverying/posting land he bought with a small cabin about an hour south of here. Between the 2 of them, they have seen 2 HUGE bucks, ones big and tall, the other wide and thick and one had a drop time. I think we may go over there opening weekend. Either way I plan on contributing to them team with my new Hoyt:)
  7. Re: deer ribs? We keep ribs sometimes from does and young bucks. They are good if you don't over cook them.
  8. Last weekend Andy and I went out to check the last of several stands on the land we hunt (a 5 minute drive or 115 minutes walk through farm land, it's great) and to clear a couple spots for climbers. Well this stand we were checking is about 10 yards off an old logging trail in the hardwoods. To my right is a ridge that the big buck came down last year and walked right under me and I never got a shot at. to my left is a mostly hemlock swamp which is a bedding area. In front of me is a smal lcreek through an open grassy/brushy swamp. And behind me is where I walk in from, a corn field and more woods. We walk in and there is a scrape below a hemlock that bucks scrape under every year. There's a few rubs and scrape along the logging trail towards the stand then right across from my stand to my right, at about 10-15 yards is a tree the size of my leg with a rub, then some smaller trees all over on this ridge with rubs, and a few scrapes on the ground! Oh boy I can't wait to hunt this stand! A buck has got his territory set-up here for sure! So do you think I'm dealing with a small buck or decent buck? I'll take what comes by though; it's meat Only 2 more weeks!
  9. Re: ********Ok! Here\'s the story!!!!!************ Great story Dakota and way to go! We are all proud of you!!!

  11. Re: Opening Day is Finally Here!! Good luck! Unluck us southern NYer's who have to wait a whole other 2 weeks at least. I think they should make the dates the same....
  12. So since shooting my new Rintec XL, I've been shooting off the string with a crimped nock and a cushion/eliminator button between the arrow and release. I seem to be shooting fine this way and am comfortable. On my old bow I was using an aluminum Ultra-Nok XL on it and shot fine. Tried it on the new bow but took it off because of draw length issues(before the shop guy found Hoyt hadn't adjusted the cams properly. So I'm used to shooting off the string and I am thinking of sticking to it for the season. My arrow hasn't come of the string when letting down as some told me on other boards that happens when shooting off the string. I just wanted to hear your opinions/ thoughts though? Would I be better putting the ultra-nok XL back on(which it seems everyone hates by the way) or stick to the string? How many on here use a loop or shoot off the string?
  13. Re: Post your BIGGEST shed!!! So? Post it anyway! 3 point or 10 point...any shed is a trophy and worthy of recognition. Maybe it isn't as big as some others here, but if it's your biggest, hey why not? Congrats!
  14. Re: Smoked a few bushytails this weekend..... Nice grey! I think I'm going to measure my next tails more like yours. I think I might be told I stuck the ruler on my squirrels' butts to far, lol.

    reflex bow

Re: reflex bow I almost got an Excursion but ended up with a Hoyt rintec XL which is sweet. Reflex bows are made my Hoyt, just older Hoyt models that I think they rename and what not. They are decent bows. A neighbor got a Reflex Highlander and I saw him shooting it the other day. Considering he is not much of a bow hunter and basically just started, he was shooting really well so it is a good bow. Oh yeah, I felt the Excursion was a little on the hefty side, but I'm a women so...
  20. Re: I got one opening weekend!! Congrats! can't wait to see the photos!
  21. Re: Ruffed Grouse question Nice grouse! I've only killed 1 grouse in my hunting career. Three in one day is very good!

Re: Bummed I hunt alone for them ost part, unless Andy makes it home soon enough from work or takes some days off during the season. Don't let no friends stop you and hopefully you'll bag a big buck and your friends will be jealous, lol. I'd hunt with you if I lived in the same state:)
