    Student loan rant

Re: Student loan rant I just graduated college, consolidated all but one loan (a loan the college owns, said I would be better off paying it after the grace period) so I have right now like $17,700 in loans - paying about $111 per month which I've been told isn't too bad.
  2. Re: New Cabelas game out this week.... Saw an add for Alaskan Adventure in Outdoor Life mag. Looks like a good game; think I'll have to try it:)
  3. Re: *****DAKOTA\'S ELK HUNT PICS******* Way to go Dakota! You were really blessed with a beautiful animal! Congrats buddy! We are all proud of ya!
  4. Yippee! The bow shop guy called, left a message on our internet thing, since my sister was online, said my bow was in and come around 7pm tomorrow. So he'll be putting my sights, rest, and Ultra-Nok XL on then I'll probably pay him and bring the baby home! Woohoo, can't wait to shoot it and post photos! And use it with my new TruBall cyclone release and especially arrow a deer with it. This is the first brand new piece of weaponery, lol, I have ever owned. My old bow was bought used and my current shotgun was bought used. I worked hard this summer to save up the money for it. Will be working custodial again next week hard, lol, but it'll make the time fly faster till hunting season
  5. Re: first aid You are talking to the first aid freak here, lol. I have certifications in CPR for the professional rescuer, Solo Wilderness First Responder, Lifeguard and first aid...A staple kit, although it might be useful in a really bad scenario, I think is probably a little overkill. I would suggest having putting in your kit various sizes of gauze pads, a few gauze rolls, something for applying pressure such as an ace wrap or cloth bandage. If you have a really bad wound anyway, you'll want to apply pressure to it, and stapling it, if you are out in the wilderness, you are more likely to probably get a nasty infection. Better to wrap it up and get to a hospital somewhere. Of course, hopefully that won't happen. Solo WFR was a course I took last summer, intense training of emergency care in the wilderness; didn't talk about staple kits. Just my two cents. If you want to know about the staple kit, then I'd suggest talking to a doctor or search google or something.
  6. Re: OK, Breaktime\'s Over Glad you're back buddy! Missed ya! Will keep praying for you and I hope you continue to heal up and feel better!
  7. Hey, any of you NYer's a licensed guide in NY state or know of someone who is. I've been trying to decide on what my career is going to be. Was researching on the internet today and found out I could get licensed as a guide in NY State! Of course I'd have to get a doctor's signature, cpr/first aid certifications, and pass the exam, but it is really something to think about. Maybe if I could get some more hunting/fishing knowledge, I'd be ready. I dunno...any one have any advice/thoughts?
  8. Re: dakota shot a.... Yaaaayyyyy Dakota!! Way to go!!! Can't wait for the story from you and the photos! Very proud and happy to you!Congrats to you and your family!
  9. Here is a photo of some red potatoes I dug yesterday that I planted this year. This is only about 1/3 of them! Dug more today and still have some more to go. See those big ones? the biggest one so far weighed 3/4 of a pound Last year I had a 1 pounder These fresh, homegrown potatoes beat out store potatoes! Enjoy!
  10. Re: Big Boy!! im excited (pic) Nice deer! I'd take him if he came by my stand!
  11. Re: Ok, somebody make me feel better! It happens even to the best of us but I know how you feel. I've had 2-3 deer in my years of hunting that I racked, lost blood and couldn't find and then I kick myself and feel horrible because it is a waste of meat and some deer, until died, was wounded. But you got to get back in the saddle.

    IM SICK!!!!

Re: IM SICK!!!! I know how you feel. My very first season hunting, with shotgun, had a shot at a beautiful buck. Shot, found some bone, leg shot, didn't find him until a week later, rack cut off. It was sickening for sure, and I even cried, and to this day, I still think about it, but we can't learn anything if we were always successful.
  13. Re: Out for the season... Wow, that had to be painful! I heard about dislocated knee caps and them going up the quad because of the muscles (athletic training classes), and tearing your patellar tendon doesn't help either. Take care of the knee so hopefully you get a chance to do a little hunting.
  14. Re: Any little tips or tricks we can offer new hunters Have fun and don't just go into the woods expecting to kill something. Hunting is so much more than the animal, at least to me it is. Enjoy the woods and sights, smells, and sounds of nature and most of all, learn from your experiences! Oh yeah, don't give up!
  15. Re: You got a cold No, not yet at least. Usually do around this time when I was in college. Maybe I'll be lucky but when I start working custodial in a week, I'll probably get a cold at some point. As long as it isn't during deer season! Hope you are feeling better soon!
  16. Re: My archery set-up Nice set-up. Those are NY woods for sure:) If those photos are recent, looksl ike you have more leaf change than down here in the southern tier
  17. Re: How long can it take? My bow is right handed and no, he said I could pay him when he got it in...I'm giving him a couple more days then going to call him and see what's up. Now I wish I hadn't taken all my stuff off my bow quiet yet...
  18. Re: How many are down I just posted photos of my 3rd and 4th for the contest. I pmed LittleRed, his season I think started this weekend, not sure, so hopefully between the two of us, we'll be upgrading our squirrels.
  19. Re: Got 2 in the bag Anyone tell me how to shrink this photos down or for at least next time when I post photos? I uploaded them on photobucket.
  20. Well, I went out about 3:30pm this afternoon on a squirrel hunt. Perfect day - light breeze, partly sunny. Came home with pockets full of puffball mushrooms and 2 grey squirrels! Here are photos of my 3rd and 4th squirrels for the contest - at least until LittleRed and I get bigger ones I hope I'm measuring the tails right at least. Squirrel #3 - tail measured about 11 inches Squirrel #4 - tail measured about 12 inches. Looks like it could go 12.25" but I thought the ruler might be under the butt too much slightly. Whatever..

    Nice Rule

Re: Nice Rule I'll just say this....you don't want to mess with any of the veterans on here, especially the mods., lol:-)
  22. Re: NWTF jakes event 2006 Looks like alot of fun! I wouldn't mind doing something like around where I live, too bad therej ust aren't any opportunities.
  23. Re: surgery update (the dog) Wonderful news! Will keep praying for you. Bet you were never so happy to fart, lmbo.
  24. Re: Meat From A Doe And A Buck, Silly Question!?!? Noy a silly question at all. Very young bucks, like spikes and button bucks, and does of any age taste better than bucks. Of course, I won't complain, deer meat is great in general, but I think preferred is doe meat. We also eat the liver but only from does and very young bucks - not as tough and very mild flavor - delicious actually.
