Well here's my doe I got on our shotgun opener last Saturday. Hope to get out tonight and sit for a little bit, would like to get a buck and break my "no shotgun buck streak" for the last 5+ years. Story below pic.
Saturday AM dawned a nice morning. Was in the ladder stand we set up a little deeper into the woods, where 2 creeks intersect. Must have been around 7:30/8am when I hear something and look behind me to see a doe standing in the creek about 15 yards away followed by 2 youngsters. Well I turn around, gun ready, watching to see if a buck comes out. She stops to pee then next thing I know they are trotting to my right, away, not spooked, but just moving. So I have to swing back around the tree, shoulder my gun. BAAAAAAA at the one to get her to stop. Well she didn't stop, I quickly put my scope on her shoulder and BOOM, she falls in her tracks.! Well come to find she got spined. So I'm waiting till I get a good angle on her to get a follow up shot in her lungs when she gets up and starts to stumble/run on all 4! I quickly get a 2nd shot off, missed, my 3rd shot though I settled right on her and BOOM:gun1:! She goes about 10 more feet and is dead....the sluf went right through her heart, as I found out when cleaning her, blew it in 1/2. She was about 40 yards from my stand. I waited a few more hours before getting down, incase deer got pushed my way. I thought she was one of the little ones but in fact just a nice medium sized doe that is now hanging in our root cellar for some aging.
