  1. Wow, you have some good hunting! Congrats!
  2. Congrats, that's a beauty!
  3. Shed hunting is starting to come into play, at least into my mind:1eye: Anyone else starting to think about shed antler hunting yet?
  4. Went out this AM....bitter cold west wind, snow....I don't think the geese came off the lake by the time I left at 10am...I was cold....Saw a few flocks flying high...couple low but not like yesterday. Yeah 92....my calls are relatively cheap. I'll probably step up to something better for next year...
  5. Using Federal #1s our of my 20 ga. Well I prefer close shots...for me 50 yards is too far and I'd rather make a good shot, then risk missing or wounding a bird. I have a flute call and a wooden Faulk's call....I can do the typical honk and a couple others...still learning.
  6. I think it is in western NY anyway. Was out goose hunting this AM...snowed all morning, cold northwest air. Went out walking around looking for deer this evening (did get about 35 yards away from a big doe bedded on a hillside), it was bitter cold on the face. Looking at the forecast, doesn't look like we'll be getting out of the 20s/30s anytime soon. Now that deer season is almost over, I'm ready for spring to come back:surrender: How about the rest of you?
  7. Happy B-day Shaun, have a great one!
  8. That's about how many geese I saw this AM.... Saw the geese yesterday piled up in a corn and alfalfa field on the land hunt. This AM I go in there, get all set up. A small flock, maybe 8 birds came in, landed out about 50 yards in front of me then 10 minutes later flew back to the lake. Well little while later a flock of maybe 10-15 birds flies in and lands in the alfalfa about 100 yards from me....that's when it all went wrong. About every flock that came in would head right in to me, then veer off and land in the alfalfa...I probably watched several hundred birds this morning to this....Finally at 10am I moved, they flew off. I moved up and set up there. Had a few more flocks fly over, take a look, but not land....First couple hours always seem to be the best anyway. So later on going to take a drive, see if they are back in that field and go back in the AM...Will have a west instead of northwest wind but I hope they still land in that same spot.... Talk about frustrating:hammer1: Gotta luck it though:yes:
  9. Nice pic! That one doe has a double throat patch!
  10. Nice pics....them wild ducks are mmmm mmm good! So what do you do with the drake tails?
  11. Poor Jeramie...I've given some of those shots in the rump...I do feel bad for the person on the receiving end of those.... Hope you are feeling better, don't let yourself get too rundown!
  12. Alright ladies, what's on your list for Christmas this year? I would like to get a buck with my shotgun or late archery season:D Just ordered my snowshoes the other day, so that's it. I'm blessed to have my family, job, and God.
  13. Tim and I both pmed each other so we are all set....hee hee hee, this will be fun:-p
  14. A field up behind my house, owned by a farmer who is real pain in the:hammer2:, is being overloaded by the geese and Mallards, the last few days they are in their constantly. Well now they are hitting the field adjacent owned by a neighbor, who can be a pain in the:hammer2: as well, but I also work with his wife, so tomorrow I'm going to ask if they mind if I goose hunt because the action right now is:gun1: No one else up there...the geese are coming in all day long, it's nuts.... Wish me luck...literally all I'd have to do is maybe load up the lawn mower cart with my gear, dump it in the field and park it in our woods for hiding.... Just hearing and watching the geese and ducks landing today, in 40 mph south wind has my trigger finger aching...
  15. Least you didn't hurt or self or anything....lol :-p

  20. Well here's my doe I got on our shotgun opener last Saturday. Hope to get out tonight and sit for a little bit, would like to get a buck and break my "no shotgun buck streak" for the last 5+ years. Story below pic. Saturday AM dawned a nice morning. Was in the ladder stand we set up a little deeper into the woods, where 2 creeks intersect. Must have been around 7:30/8am when I hear something and look behind me to see a doe standing in the creek about 15 yards away followed by 2 youngsters. Well I turn around, gun ready, watching to see if a buck comes out. She stops to pee then next thing I know they are trotting to my right, away, not spooked, but just moving. So I have to swing back around the tree, shoulder my gun. BAAAAAAA at the one to get her to stop. Well she didn't stop, I quickly put my scope on her shoulder and BOOM, she falls in her tracks.! Well come to find she got spined. So I'm waiting till I get a good angle on her to get a follow up shot in her lungs when she gets up and starts to stumble/run on all 4! I quickly get a 2nd shot off, missed, my 3rd shot though I settled right on her and BOOM:gun1:! She goes about 10 more feet and is dead....the sluf went right through her heart, as I found out when cleaning her, blew it in 1/2. She was about 40 yards from my stand. I waited a few more hours before getting down, incase deer got pushed my way. I thought she was one of the little ones but in fact just a nice medium sized doe that is now hanging in our root cellar for some aging.
  21. My 20 ga Mossberg shoots the Hornady SST slugs pretty well.....
