    WHY??????

Oklahoma has been miseralbe also. Heat indexes have been a killer. I'm seeing a few heat related incidents with dogs. Gotta be careful.
  4. i've heard of that but have never seen it happen. i'd rather it happen at rest then when pulling her back.
  5. it takes a while for lime to work but before you spend the money on lime i'd do a $15 soil sample to determine where your pH is first. Fertilizer is a must and you can do that at time of planting. 200# per acre of triple 15 or something close to that will do you fine. You seed choice is just fine. 75# of cereal grains (25 of each) 10# of winter peas 3# of brassicas (turnips/beets) all per acre and you'll have a nice plot all winter and into spring. good luck todd
  6. I always fertilize when I plant so I can work the fertilizer into the soil. One thing you have to worry about now is that if it doesn't rain in a few days after fertilizing you start losing the nitrogen. Wait until there is a very good chance of rain then fertilize just prior. That will dissolve the fertilizer and get in into the soil. If there is not a good chance of rain then wait.

    Dog help needed

could be fleas. take a good look and see if there are any running around. Could have also injured the tail and now won't leave it alone. Allergies will also cause that occasionally but not typically on the end of the tail. A spider bite/wasp sting could also cause that. Go to a pet store and buy an elizabethian collar to put on the dog to keep him from chewing it any worse. apply an antibiotic ointment to it several times a day and keep the collar on and it should get better. if not then need to head to a vet. todd
  8. Welcome to Realtree!!! todd
  9. 20 million might change his mind. I won't be convinced until the end of the season.
  10. just remember a good quality breeding of show goldens or pets with no hunting back ground will not give you good chances of a good hunting dog.
  11. how much sun does that plot get? looks like a nice secluded area. good luck. still got about 4 weeks before i plant here in oklahoma.
  12. i just finished watching the new one last night. not the best in the series but still a very good watch.
  13. here is the main problem. there aren't nearly as many field goldens out there compared to field labs. i train labs as a hobby and currently the president of our local hunting retriever club. you can't just go out and buy a golden out of the paper and expect to have a good duck dog. sure you could get lucky and find one but the odds are against you. if you want a golden that is going to hunt with you then i'd be sure to find a golden that is out of hunting/field stock. parents that are proven hunters or even better have a retriever title of some kind. also when purchasing a golden make sure you get one that has clearances for hips, elbows, and eyes. the good golden breeders will also have thyroid clearance. i'm sure your wife saw plenty of large breed dogs with hip dysplasia. this can cut a hunting dogs career at a very young age. BTW--i see just as many hyper goldens as i do labs. got a black one laying next to me right now in bed fast asleep. let me know and if interested i'll get you a name of a lady in Tulsa that might be able to find you one. good luck todd
  14. welcome to the forum buddy!
  15. i purchased some on clearence at wally world several years back. the deer hit but i couldn't tell anymore than any other salt based attractant.
  16. I was just looking online at that bow. I just got a new bowtech last year so not in the market for a new bow but would like to shoot one. I wouldn't worry about the change with Primos. It's all about who will give them the best deal. I think they only changed to Bear about 3 or 4 years ago from a previous bow maker--can't remember which one.
  17. One thing you don't want to do is put down too much seed. The competition from the plants will prevent optimum growth. If you have a few extra bucks to spend you could go to wally world and buy a small bag of shot plot for 10 bucks and use 1/2 of the bag in the half acre with the wheat. It is a mixture of 4 different brassicas. They are very small seeds so you don't want to lightly disc the brassicas. After you cover the wheat seed broadcast about a pound of the brassica mix and then either drag the plot or just drive over the plot with your tractor and compact the brassica seeds into the soil with the tires on the tractore. Spend another 20 bucks and buy another bad of triple 19 fertilizer so there is 100 pounds on the plot. You'll stil be under 100 bucks!!!! The fertilizer will increase the growth of the wheat and brassicas and also make it even more attractive for the deer. good luck tod
  18. A guy decides to bring his new blonde girlfriend to a football game. After the game is over, he asks her if she liked the game. She replies: "Oh it was great, I loved watching those men in tight clothes, but there is one thing I don't understand." "What did you not understand ?" And the blonde says: "Well, at the begginning of the game, both teams flipped a quarter to see who would kick off first. Then the rest of the game everybody was yelling get the quarter back, get the quarter back, get the quarter back. So I thought to myself, gosh it's just a quarter!"
  19. sweet. got my first f150 in '02 and still love it. 130k and still going strong.
  20. 1/2 acre---go to feed/seed store and buy 50# of wheat for about 10 bucks then buy 50# of triple 19 fertilizer for about $20 bucks. disc the plot and broadcast fertilizer then disc again. then broadcast seed and LIGHTLY disc to cover seed. You'll have a plot for 30 bucks that will start drawing quickly and stay green all winter. best low cost plot you can plant on 1/2 acres. todd
  21. if he wears 9 to 9 1/2 size shoe then the smallest i would go with is 10. nothing more uncomfortable then tight waders in the cold. The extra size allows good blood circulation to feet. when duck hunting cold feet will send you home early.
