  1. I'd say gross 100 for the big one, maybe 110 if he's still growing a bit. Good luck, Ryan
  2. Very true... As far as attractants in early season, just Tinks Draw 2 and sometimes Trails End. I have a bunch of others I use around the end of October through the rut. Good luck! Ryan
  3. I'd say maybe 115/120. Probably no more than that. Hard to tell. I bet you come across something bigger! Take care, Ryan
  4. Same here! Another suggestion...you could still hunt turkeys with the Bowtech! Your name would still be intact! Congrats on the HOYT! Another tick mark for the good guys Take care, Ryan
  5. Ya..pretty sweet bow! I'm sticking with the ViperTec from a couple years ago. Probably get a new one next year. Looks like we both better start savin' up! Kudos on having your priorities straight with your kids. There's probably people out there that would buy the bow and not provide as best they could for the kids. Have a good season :-) Ryan
  6. Sounds good! Now you just need to get up in a stand :-) Take care, Ryan
  7. I'd take the last week in October, unless there's some other circumstance like a bunch of other people around then or something like that. Good luck! Ryan
  8. Agree with about 2 inches of growth...if he's a shooter to you, they go get him...the next pictures I want to see are of him dead in the back of the truck!!! Good luck, Ryan
  9. Born4it

    Youth Broadheads?

I'd put him in a lower grain G5 Montec, Striker, or Muzzy 3-blade. Just my 2 cents. Ryan
  10. I'll be the first to suggest Gold Tip on this thread...there are a ton of people who shoot Gold Tip XT Hunters or other models. The three most popular currently are probably the Easton FMJ, Carbon Express Maximas, and Gold Tip XT Hunters. Take care, Ryan
  11. Good to hear! Probably put one on the Christmas list! Thanks, Ryan
  12. Toddy's got it...that's exactly what Dad and I do. I've actually been thinking about moving a few, but haven't had time to get out and scout as much as I'd like. Take care, Ryan
  13. My overall goals are: Stay safe Hunt smarter Learn something everytime out Enjoy nature for everything it's worth Take my girlfriend again Spend time with my Dad and have a blast like we always do Finally, NEVER TAKE IT FOR GRANTED!! More specifically: Shoot at least 2 does, at least 1 with bow Catch up to a mature buck, at least 3.5 years old with my bow Do what I can with a shotgun Shoot my first deer with my TC Encore muzzleloader Good post! Good luck to everyone with their goals! Ryan
  14. I don't really think I would want rifle hunting in IL. With all the advances in technology and far shooting shotguns and slugs, it's really not needed. Plus, with all the people who drive and hunt deer like they hunt rabbits, shooting them on the run at 100 or 200 yards and such, I can't imagine what would go on if you put a 7mm in their hands! Good info though! Thanks :-) Ryan
  15. I spun a running 144 inch 8 pointer around and he ran in to 27 yards in 05 with the Can call. It's a doe in estrous sound, so you'll want to use it during the pre rut and rut, mostly along with short quick tending grunts to emulate a buck chasing a doe. They work extremely well when used in the right situation! Have fun with that! Take care, Ryan
  16. It'll be looking good after you make those changes...if you want me to look over it again before you turn it in, just let me know :-) Have a good one! Ryan
  17. Scroll down on the main forum page and go into the Classified page. Good luck! Ryan
  18. Muzzy Zero Effect drop-away. It's the only one that is forced away from the arrow shaft and doesn't depend on gravity to pull the arm down. If set up properly, there's nothing better. It's very quiet, and you know there won't be any contact. You can also turn the bow sideways, and the arrow won't fall out. Just my 2 cents! I've heard good things about the Trophy Taker Shakey Hunter as well. Take care, Ryan
  19. Thanks for the advice about seeing rubs now and it being a good one...never really put that together! I'll have to pay extra attention to that when I get out again. Thanks, Ryan
  20. That surprises me about the GTs, gobblerbane... I love my Gold Tips, and I know there's a ton of other people who do. Glad to hear your groups have tightened with the carbons! Much more sturdy arrows.. I actually had to get some for my dad for his birthday before he'd use them! Now he loves them :-) Take care, Ryan
  21. Glad to hear that you're up and running. The grip has already been explained, and I'm sure you've tried it by now. It just keeps the torque from going side to side. Show us the pictures of your arrowed doe come fall! Good luck, Ryan
  22. That's awesome Man! Sounds like a great trip with your daughter! I'm actually glad to hear that about the rangefinder too..was thinking of getting one :-) Glad everything's worked out with the bow and you've got her punchin holes in the target! Take care, Ryan
  23. Hahaha! That made me laugh out loud at work:p Very true! I think you're ready:cool: Take care, Ryan
  24. I'd just take it to a well-respected shop and have them first tune it properly, and then give you a lesson. Most shops are happy to do both of those things. Sorry to hear about your experience with the Mathews dealer! Try to shoot at least 6 or 12 arrows a day. You'll see vast improvement in not too long! Good luck, Ryan Oh ya, and if you ever have any questions, post them on here! I've had to depend on some of the really smart people on here ;-)
  25. Argh.. This brings back painful memories. I got out to my farm one day, which is 30 minutes from my house. I flew out there after school and was all pumped up to get up in the tree... Opened the case, and the string was basically shattered (or blown up, just like you said)!!! I was furious. I actually thought maybe someone had cut my string or something. I went straight to the shop and got it fixed...probably the most frustrating $50 I've spent. Take care, Ryan
