  1. This is what it looked like from my front yard.
  2. Trijicon Reflex. No batteries and built like a tank.
  3. Well hopefully Lord willing things will be different for me next time I get to go too. This is the first time I've hunted this piece of property and it's really small (about 100acres). I know of some very large gobblers coming off the adjacent properties. This particular piece hasn't been turkey hunted in five years. I toughed it out from darkthirty until 2:30pm.
  4. You did good Rhino. You were in them. I was not. Today was opening morning. It was a long day today. No gobbling where I was hunting. Couldn't find the birds. There was sign they were where I was hunting but they just didn't seem to be there today. I can't remember an opening day with less action.
  5. They are gobbling on the roost in the morning and close beaked after fly down. They are still flocked up here. Saw three Tom's together yesterday in a bachelor group while I was scouting. Season opens this Tues. The hens are more vocal but essentially silent after 8am. With them still being in flocks you'll either find all of them or none of them. Unfortunately, it appears they are only passing through where I hunt and not hanging around long. I don't know when they are going through yet. Tuesday could be a long day.
  6. Lucky you! Pearson is making some really awesome bows nowadays, I'm sure you enjoy that one. There isn't a dealer around here I just lucked into it. I will be paying more attention to Pearson in the future now.
  7. I just got the Pearson Z34 with the R2B2 cam set (used). It's a great bow! One thing I've definitely noticed about the bow that's different is the cam stops on both the upper and lower cams. It's much more common for only one stop. I've found it is critical on Pearson's system that the stops be in the same location on BOTH cams. If one leads the other a bit you can still bottom them both out and that messes up tuning. Trust me it's worth your time to make sure they are in the same location on both cams The grip on the new Pearson's is awesome. I really like it.
  8. I guess you're looking primarily for a search and rescue light. That light needs to be extremely bright to see long distances. I have been looking at these. I don't have one but it sounds like the 852 Search and Rescue model is what you might be looking for. Check out the Lumens rating (higher is brighter). Welcome to Black Bear Flashlights

    FOC Question

The A/C/Cs are heavier hence the loss in FOC. If you put a 125gr tip on the Maxima and a 100gr tip on the A/C/C the arrows at that length will weigh almost the same (within a couple grains). So you then you will have arrows that weigh the same and shoot the same speed. Same kinetic energy and same momentum. The difference is the Maximas will have a higher FOC. The A/C/Cs are just a hair smaller in diameter than the Maxima's. Shouldn't get much penetration advantage from that difference. The 125gr tipped Maxima's should penetrate a foam target deeper than the 100gr tipped A/C/C's. I don't think your concern in loosing some FOC is unfounded. FOC is a factor on how well an arrow penetrates. So is having a heavier arrow. Personally, instead of just going to a heavier shaft I prefer to add the weight up front and gain some FOC. Keep in mind you loose effective spine when you do this. Sometimes you have to turn the poundage down a little to tune the bow. You can tweek your FOC some with brass washers. You can get some here. Buy Brass Weight Washers - Archery Brass Weight Washers
  10. I gather this will be your first rifle. A 30-06 with 180gr bullets has plenty of steam for moose. It won't be a difficult to manage for a novice shooter as any of the 300s available. Lots of great bolt guns out there to choose from. Savage makes good ones but also look at Weatherby Vanguards. There are some good deals on the Vanguards out there and they are great guns. You might find a Vanguard for less than anything else. http://www.weatherby.com/product/rifles/vanguard/synthetic Get the synthetic model first and then later upgrade the gun with a Bell and Carlson Medalist stock. You can buy these stocks separately.

    Any bow gurus?

The Vendetta is a higher speed bow no doubt. I shoot the PSE x-weaves in my Bowtech. 30in draw, 27 1/2in arrow, 300 size,125 gr head at 67 1/2lbs. That draw weight is as high as I can go before I have spine issues with the 300s. The actual spine of the PSE 300s is .340. So the 300 PSE are the same spine as the 340 Bemans. The Bemans are heavier though so I would not expect them to act as stiff. There's a decent chance the Beman's will work fine. A serious tuning effort with the Beman's will reveal if they are in fact too stiff. If they act a little too stiff put the next size up head on them and see. Try before you buy is always a good idea with archery equipment
  12. Maybe you can but I'd advise against it. Technically putting a pistol barrel in a rifle stocked weapon is a felony.
  13. That camera takes EF lenses. If you upgrade to a new camera later, buy one that takes the EF lenses and you can use them on it. Personally I don't see much benefit in using an extender unless you have to. IE. The camera won't accept a complete telephoto lens.

    Question?

Sometimes the moon is important. Sometimes other things take precedence. Weather is a good one. Full moon usually means more night time movement and less daytime movement. If it's overcast all night than the full moon doesn't seem to affect daylight movement as much. Heavy rain during the rut sometimes make deer anxious to freshen scrapes up as soon as it stops. For that matter a really rut crazed buck doesn't care what time it is. That being said, if the moon is the strongest variable. It is wise to pay attention to it.
  15. Getting the receiver drilled and tapped for scope mounts might be an option if the metal will hold threads. Some shotguns nowadays have alloy receivers that don't have much thread strength. Go see a good gunsmith and he can probably do it for less than a saddle mount.
  16. A huge buck for sure! An interesting side note, bucks with testicle damage are not eligible for the Boone and Crockett book. I don't know if this will keep the deer from being recognized as a state record or not. Still a huge rack.

    Am I going to die?

Duck breasts frozen in water will last almost as long as vacuum packed. If I thawed it out and cooked it all up. I'd vacuum pack and freeze the leftovers with no worries whatsoever. If you are determined to repack, like others have said just thaw it enough to break the ice off it.

    Engineers?

Like 92xj suggests. Being a good student and a good employee are sometimes not related. Some of the best and worst engineers I have ever worked with were fantastic students in school. I strongly recommend an internship for engineering students. Personally, I always looked for that when interviewing graduate candidates for employment. Co-workers at an internship are your first real world references. They can really help you get a job. Let's face it. Getting a job is why you are going to school in the first place.

    Engineers?

My degree is in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University. Auburn is the oldest and most respected engineering school in the state of Alabama. That's why I went there. Not just to play basketball. Lot's of Math/calculus and actually into some graduate level stuff. Applied math eigenvalue problems (Differential equations on steroids!) Piles of physics and chemistry. The core mechanical engineering classes are Statics, Thermodynamics, Dynamics, Fluid dynamics, mechanical design and Strength of Materials. I also took Materials Engineering(composites), Metallurgy, Industrial engineering, linear circuit design and electronics. On top of that I took a bunch of computer science classes. Drafting (board) and computer aided drafting. The end result is a very flexible engineering degree that is a fit for many career options.
  21. Your Tactical Master knife has very unique character. It has very nice lines in both the form and the Damascus. My suggestion is to submit one like this one you did.

    Computer's back

Interesting. I'm used to memory chips being "clamped" in nowadays. But maybe boards are losing that feature now. Glad it wasn't worse. Welcome back!
  23. That's a great bull. Very nice. I was able to watch some of the video. Nice calling guys!
