    New bow

From what I've seen that price seems pretty darn good. I haven't shot one myself, but if I was looking for a new bow the new Bear line would definately get a look. They seemed to have stepped a notch with last years bows.
  2. These guys pretty well have it covered. I want to see a more informative show...Deer and Deer Hunting comes to mind. I would like to see the whole process from pre season scouting, to hanging stands (and why they hung it where they did), hunting, harvesting, and recovery. Some information I would like to see during the hunt is things like wind speed, temperature, date, moon phase, and even barometric pressure. After recovery it would also be nice to see a model of where the shot impacted and exited and how far the animal traveled before expiring. All of this is real world information that the viewers can benefit from in their own hunts. I don't care for guided hunts much either...if nothing else is on I'll watch them, but prefer private and public land hunts. No offense to any Texans here, but please no Texas rifle hunts. A 250 yard rifle shot on a buck in a baited sondero just doesn't appeal to me. Especially when two guys are sitting in a tower blind talking in normal voices and there are 30 deer around them not spooked at all. The David morris shows are the worst at this.
  3. Happy birthday Randy! Hope you have a good one! You and my wife share the same birthday.:1eye:
  4. I don't really get too star struck when it comes to famous people. Most really don't impress me much and have pretty crappy attitudes. I've never really met any movie stars or famous singers. I sat next to Jim Edmonds (ex Cardinals center fielder) at a hockey game a few years ago. Not a very fun or talkative guy. With my job I've met quite a few race car drivers. Carl Edwards I didn't care for..too arrogant. Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace are very likeable guys and down to earth. Kevin Harvick seemed like a decent enough guy. Brendan Gaughan is an easy guy to get to talk to. I've met Matt Hughes, Micheal Waddell, Pat and Nicole, Stann Potts, Jay Gregory, and Roger Raglin at different hunting shows over the years and they all seemed great.
  5. Illinois. Every year I seem to see one or two bucks that would go in the 160's from the stand, just never closed the deal on one of them yet.
  6. My Illinois buck last year was right at 140". He could've been closer 150" if his drop tine hadn't been busted off.
  7. Cool! Congrats Fly! Happy belated birthday, man! I never made it out this weekend, but the weather sure seemed good.
  8. This really bothers me! I've been stewing on this ever since I heard about it a few days ago. Everytime I think about it I get more ticked. My wife just got her first raise in two years on Jan. 1 and guess where it's all going to end up....state taxes. We're not going to see any of it. It's going to cost us around an extra $1300 a year. We get stuck footing the bill for bad political decisions and a lack of budget that caused this deficit in the first place. When you live paycheck to paycheck $100 a month extra is a lot of money to fork over for taxes. We as employess are ultimately going to get stuck covering the corporate tax increase on top of that. My employer has already said they are dropping vision and dental insurance.
  9. I've actually been shooting Crimson Talons for about 5 years now and they have been good heads. They fly great and I've got no complaints on the blood trails. The down side is they are a pain to remove from targets and no broadhead wrench fits them, so they can be a chore to take off an arrow. They are generally undamaged when I hit an animal, but the few misses I've had have pretty much destroyed the aluminum ferule on them. I know over on AT Slick Tricks get quite a bit of attention, and some of the kill picks are undeniable. As for the helical fletching....now I have a reason to buy a new fletching jig.
  10. Just curious who here uses 4 blade broadheads. I was thinking about switching to the 4 blade Slick Trick Magnums for a little more durability. I've never shot 4 blader before, but supposedly the 4 bladers leave a big gash and good blood trailes due to the extra cutting surface with the extra blade....plus Slick Tricks look cool. Does everyone that shoots 4 blades have helical fletchings? According to the Slick Trick website that's what they recommend. Unfortunatley, right now all my arrows are straight fletched, but I've been thinking about having them all changed to a helical anyways.
  11. Man, 5 goals for Russia in the third...yikes! Gotta give Russia credit though, they hung in there. They could've easily came out flat in the third. It's gotta be a little dissheartening being down 3 goals in the third to the team favored to win it all, but they took it to Canada in the last period. U.S. played great yesterday and came home with the bronze....not too shabby!
  12. Great buck! Congrats!
  13. I am always amazed at how many people see more deer in the evenings. In my 20 or so years of deer hunting I see probably 75% off the deer in the mornings, which is weird mostly because I hunt more evenings than mornings. I did kill my second buck of the season in the evening this year. I suppose it may have to do with your location. Most of the property I hunt on is timber. Perhaps if I had more cropland to hunt evenings may be a little better.
  14. Man, He's a dandy! Congrats to your uncle!
  15. Congrats man! He's a bruiser!
  16. It's kinda funny...it's been on the news all week. When I lived in Minnesota they treated 1-3" of snow like it was just a flurry, but around here it freaks people out. I love the snow, and the kids are ready to do a little sledding.
  17. I'm with ya! I relly don't care much for Jeff Bridges or Josh Brollin, so I was already dissapointed from just seeing the previews. What happened to originality....seems like a majority of the new movies coming out are remakes, sequels, or based of an old t.v. show.
  18. Congrats Bama! Couple of nice nannies for the freezer!
  19. Like William said, an inversion table is great for most disc problems. IMO a majority of back problems can be solved with stretching and exercise. I was about to have surgery to repair a disc in my lower back a few years ago, and after doing some research decided to try some alternatives. I was taking 800mg of tylenol and a muscle relaxer just to get through some days. Eventually the meds started giving me an ulcer...not good. When I would twist just right it would totally lock me up and I absolutely could not move for a few days. I started stretching and lifting weights a few days a week and amazingly enough my pain slowly went away and I have been free of any major pain for a few years now. I beleive my core was weak, giving me bad posture, and forcing me to rely on my back more than I needed to. I still get some pain....mostly when I'm sitting, but have not missed any work or been laid up for quite a while now.
  20. Yea, our team thread hasn't seen much activity the last few weeks. I'm done for the season, but still like to check in and see how everyone else is doing. Hopefully we can put a few more points up in the next few weeks. Hope everyone has a good Christmas!
  21. Not really. Most red dots don't magnify and are way shorter so they have a lot more eye relief ( The distance from your eye to the back of the scope). They mount the same as a scope. I use a B square mount on my Winchester 1300. You can pick them up pretty reasonable. I think I paid around $40 for mine on sale at Bass Pro. If your shots max out around 70 or 80 yards a red dot is the way to go IMO. If you plan on shooting over 100 yards then you may want a scope.
  22. You might want to give a red dot a look. I tried a scope on my slug gun for the first time a few years ago. I've never hunted with a scope, and just couldn't get used to it. I spent about $40 bucks on slugs sighting it in and the thing hit me in the face twice. A buddy talked me into trying a red dot and I've never regretted it.
  23. He's a good looking Illinois buck! Congrats!
