I bought Vapor Trails as per John's reccomendation and have no complaints but one. Their serving, atleast on the string that I bought for my DXT wasn't very good. It came undone in under 100 shots and forced my loop to slide way up the string in the middle of a 3D tourney. Other than that, the strings are top notch.

FYI.. bought the Helix jig. Works with the Fusions! Awesome product!
-
I know the Bitz can do any vane. I'm trying to figure out if the Bohning will do the Fusions. It says its designed for 2" style vanes, but the Fusions are 2 1/4". I can imagine that the 1/4" could cause adhesion problems.
-
I'm looking to buy a new jig and even though I know the Bitz is the better option, I don't like having to buy clamps separate for $30 a pop. Does anyone know if the Bohning jig can do the 2 1/4" Fusion vanes as well? If not I'll switch back to Blazers, no biggie.

My girlfriends mom had a call similar to that a few weeks ago except the guy on the line was claiming to be from DHO (Department of Homeland Security). He said they were doing a survey. He asked her if the house had a fire alarm system. She told him that she didn't want to participate in the "survey". Who knows what question would've been next? Do you have a burglary alarm? Then if they hear what they wanted to hear, what happens next? The house gets robbed? After she said she didn't want any part of the survey, he hung up on her after insisting two more times that she answer the question.

Finally, I managed to end my 3 year drought! Until this season, I hadn't shot a gobbler since 2007, but have called birds in for others, which is cool but actually dropping the hammer yourself is so much more satisfying. I've been hititng the turkeys hard this year. I think I've only missed 4 or 5 days this season and this past weekend, it all finally came together. Saturday morning, my dad, my brother, my girlfriend and I went up on a ridge where we knew birds have been roosting and tried working them. Turned out there were 2 toms, a jake and a hen roosted up there. Well, flydown time came and the hen took all 3 of them away from us. They shut up around 7:30am. So at that point, breakfast was sounding really good so when Melissa and I went to town for coffee, we passed a field in the general direction of where those birds were headed and not 200 yards from where we worked them over an hour ago, we found 2 toms strutting with a jake and a hen. We tried getting on them but they wouldn't gobble. So on Sunday we figured we could get between them and the strutting zone, thinking that if we cut them off we'd get a shot. Well guess what happens, flydown time comes on Sunday and they're roosted with that hen again. She flys down and takes them the opposite direction! Time to run & gun. Melissa, Michael and I went after them. We worked 4 different gobblers on this one ridge and spooked 2 hens so it kind of worked out in our favor. The gobblers never knew we were there but were hellbent on hanging up at 80 yards, field or woods. On the way back to the house, we happened across a porcupine. She took a 3 1/2" #5 out of my 835 at about 15 yards. Found out afterwards that they actually aren't turkey nest raiders, but are strictly herbivores. Not that it mattered because the neighbors have dogs and a dog getting quilled is the last thing they want so now there's one less porcupine out there! So after breakfast we were sitting around and Melissa was itching to get back out there. I decided it was time to burn my best spot that I had been saving. This spot always holds birds and I had left it untouched all season. In 2006, I killed my biggest tom in this field and in 2007 my dad killed a good tom in the same field, against the same tree around the same day. So we went walking into the fields and hit the call. After a few sets of yelps, a hen started cranking up so I figured we could set up and hopefully she had a gobbler with her and he would come in following. Set my swingin' hen out around 20 yards and started calling. We sat up against the same tree that we had killed the other 2 gobblers from in previous years. A few minutes into the setup and it sounded like the hen was coming. Then she shut up. So I started kee kee ing on my mouth call. I have heard that kee kee's in the spring can be deadly. After the second sequence of yelps mixed with kee kee's, GOBBBLEEEEE!!!! A bird let loose in field, well inside the 100 yard mark. I told Melissa to get her gun ready, as getting her a bird has been my #1 priority this year. Let out some cutts and excited yelps and what sounded like 3 or 4 birds lit up. Under 2 min later, we had 4 jakes in front of us locked on the decoy. I got my gun up as well. After a minute, they started to get weary of the situation and 2 went to leave. I told Melissa it was now or never and started to count down, 3...2...1... B-BOOM!! She shot first and I followed it right up. Both birds crumple, we start high fiving and get up. Her bird got back up and ran off. Mine stayed down. She is shooting my Mossberg 500 20ga with 3" Federal Loads. The same load/choke combo that I killed my first turkey with and so did my brother. We searched for an hour and found nothing but feathers and some blood. After thinking about it, She shot the farthest bird. Mine was at 28 yards and hers was probably around 34-35 yards. It was just the way the circumstances worked out. Two were too close together to shoot, and the other two were separated. I had the one on the left and she had the one on the right. Man was she upset over the whole thing. I felt so bad because I know what it's like. But she's a trooper. She got right back in the saddle and wanted to hunt Monday morning. My jake wasn't a bad bird. 16lbs, 5" beard and 1/2" spurs. Very healthy jake. Anyway, just wanted to share that story.. Now for the pics.

Last weekend, I hunted with my buddies stepdad bow only for turkeys. The weather wasn't the best but we managed to get it done both days. Saturday was nothing but thunderstorms but it was ok because we were in a blind and it worked out. The weather changed to sunny and blue skies at 10:30am. Quitting time here in NY is 12pm so at 10:30 we packed up and checked out another spot about 15min away. To make a long story short, we played cat and mouse with a tom, 2 jakes and a hen for an hour and at 11:59 (no seriously it was 11:59) we pulled a jake in and he hung up around 40 yards. Mike took the shot and shwacked him! It was 37 yards to be exact and he put the arrow right through the birds neck. It was pretty awesome. It was even cooler to get it done without a blind and running and gunning with the bow. Oh and it was his first bird. Another first bird that I was able to call in for someone! When we got up to the bird and inspected it, we learned it had 2 beards! 1 beard was around 4" and the other 3 1/2", only 1/4" spurs and around 15lb. Shwacker broadhead stuck in tree after pass through: View across the Hudson River not 100 yards from where he killed his bird. That is Westchester County across the river. Then on Sunday, we sat in the blind again back where we were Saturday morning. Birds were gobbling right off the roost but quickly shut up after flydown. We sat and around 8am, Mike spotted 2 toms behind us about 100 yards. We tried calling to them and they ran back into the woods and started gobbling and coming to our right when I heard 2 more gobbles to our left. About 5min later, 2 toms pop out to our left and make a bee line for the decoys. We get ready and the two toms come in and start mixing with the dekes. He was on the first bird, I was on the second, the strutter. My bird broke into strut at 25 yards facing me and I let it fly. I watched the arrow bury right between his neck and beard. The bird jumped up in the air in a puff of feathers and then walked off slowly with his head getting lower and lower every 10 yards. We gave em about 15 minutes and went looking. Couldn't find him. Mike missed his bird but I know I drilled mine. Arrow was coated in feathers and blood. We searched for 2 hours and came up with nothing. I think it was because I was shooting Slick Trick Mags and the 1 1/8" cut wasn't enough. There's Rage 2 blades in my quiver now. I was so disgusted and upset with myself. But I bounced right back and tried to get on another bird for the remainder of the day but to no avail, they just wouldn't cooperate.

Hey team.. The NY Youth Hunt is this weekend. Taking out my little brother. Hoping to have a repeat of last year's hunt. Called in a jake for him last year that he smacked at 25 yards. We get started next Saturday, May 1st. Buying a red dot scope and sighting in this weekend. I am so ready. -
These birds are roughly 30 miles from NYC and right around the corner from the college I attend. Everyday I practically run them over on my way home from school. It's definitely awesome to just watch. I'm always slowing down traffic by pulling over to call to them and take pics. I know the pics are blurry but they're about 60 yards away and my zoom is always maxed out. Then I nearly ran over this birds hen two days later.. Then I took a video.. You can't hear him gobble but if you pay attention you can see his neck stretch out right before he faces away in full strut.

Ruth.. these are all from about an hour ago on my ride home from school.. These birds are 100% suburban gobblers, less than 30 miles from NYC. They were tearing it up strutting and gobbling in this yard. I started calling to them on the diaphragm and they went nuts. There was one monstrocity of a tom that wouldn't break strut in the backyard because he had 2 hens with him. His beard was dragging while he was in full strut. I know the pics are blurry but they were close to 60 yards away and my zoom was maxed out.

I haven't shot one yet but I have held one. I really like the way the bare bow balances. The weight is distributed very nicely. However, I did shoot a Maxis 35 and well I may aquire one... :bang:

Was listening to 2 toms sound off the last two nights right across the street from my old high school. Birds are starting to heat up for sure. Less than 2 weeks til the youth hunt. Taking my brother out again this year.

Turkey season needs to come first fellow NYers.. The trees are just starting to bud and the toms are gobbling. Please let me enjoy my strutting and gobbling toms before I think about the leaves changing. No but seriously, I am ready. Just re did my arrows and changed the string and cables on my bow. October can hurry up. Right after May 31st. -
Yep been listening to birds gobble the last 3 nights

I may have just landed a spot in Jersey to hunt. Best part is that they start in about 2 1/2 weeks. NY is May 1st. Even if I don't get to hunt in NJ, I'll still be out there trying to get a new friend his first turkey.
