  2. Welcome to the Forums! You have come to the right place Turkey hunting is a awesome interactive hunt. Only Elk and turkey( in the spring) call back to you when you hunt 'em. I recommend to hunt from the ground, back against a tree. Hang a piece of orange above your head on the tree to let other hunters know someone is there. Some turkey hunters stalk turkey calls, which is wrong. That turkey call can be another hunter...Be careful. The bird should come to you if your doing things right. Wear full camo with face mask to match the area. Shotgun with full or extra full choke, shooting 3" or 3 1/2" shells(whatever you can handle). Pattern your gun at the range before you go, so you know how the gun hits. You want at least 10 pellets or more in the kill zone. Use turkey head targets, your aiming for the head and neck. Practice at 20-30 and 40 yards. Those are the most common ranges at which a turkey can be taken. They do get closer. I had one walk around my gun barrel once:D. Calling is tricky. There are a few types of calls. Mouth calls, box calls and slate calls. Box calls are the easiest to use for beginners. A rain/water proof box call is good to have. One good way to learn about hunting turkey is to get a few turkey vids and watch them. Try to emulate the calling. Even better, get someone who has hunted turkey before and have them call for you until you get better. The box call requires 2 hands to operate, so you can't hold your gun while doing it. Thats where the mouth call comes in. You can call and hold your gun at the same time with a minimum of movement. Turkey will see anything that moves, their eyes are amazing as you will see. Check out this link for more info. http://www.nwtf.org/hunting_tactics.html Good Luck!
  3. The ONLY problem I have with Dell IS... When you call for customer support...Good Luck getting someone and when you do, have fun understanding the person on the other end of the phone:rolleyes: That might be the case with all PC makers today. I have had a few Dells, and that is my experience. Good systems, but customer support bites.

    Vegas got snow

I wonder if the casinos had odds on snow in Nevada:D I wonder if anyone has snow boots, shovels, plows OR snow tires. Snow has to slow them down a bit over there.
  5. Nice Ruth...Congrats on the passing grade. You will make a great nurse I'm sure:)
  6. Have a safe trip Frank and I hope Pops gets to feeling better too.
  7. Tink, I will be digging up whatever I have, that I don't need and getting it out to our boys and gals over there. I have a old bear bow that is gathering dust. I guess its going for a loooong ride! have a safe trip when you go. Your a good man Tink, Bless ya pal;).
  8. Yup, and he really got into making custom guitars. http://mcphersonguitars.com/acoustic-guitars-973.asp I even believe he bought back his own name to make bows with.

  12. Who needs pay per view? This is funny:p
  13. I too, started with someones used junk and made it work until I was able to hit the bullseye. $100 got me in the game. It has become a rich mans game to keep up with state of the art archery equipment. Your gonna laugh Doc...I started with a Bear Whitetail legend:) Heavy with plastic wheels and all. I took my 1st 3 deer with that bow and those HUGE aluminum telephone pole arrows:D. I was bit with the archery bug a few years later and went out and bought a brand new Outback in 03 and have not looked back since. I paid $565 stripped and just about $900 out the door complete with arrows. I found that to be reasonable. I seriously doubt I will buy another bow. It was like going from a carborator to fuel injection. My son spent $1348 on his set up DXT. NUTS... plain nuts. It his money. They'll bury me with my Outback:D Too bad John Moses Browning didn't invent the compound bow. There would be nothing left to improve on if he made it. Then we would only have to own one bow. Like one handgun...the 1911.

  15. You have a beautiful family Jeramie. Those girls are dolls:) Thanks for sharing them.
  16. OK, many of us hunt with muzzleloaders and some do not get to fire their weapon at days end. What to do? 2 choices. Fire the gun, then you have to clean it with no venison to show for...Pull the bullet and deform it, which effects ballistics I'm sure. This is what I did. I loaded my 2 smokepoles Friday afternoon. The CVA gets 3 pellets of 777 with 295gr powerbelt and a 777 primer. The T/C ThunderHawk gets 90gr of pyrodex, standard 209 primer with a 350gr Maxihunter bullet. I did not get a shot at any deer the whole weekend. Today after 5 days of the guns being loaded. In and out of the house many times, but left outside on the deck during the day, brought in the house at night. I discharged them today to go home from camp. Results after 5 days loaded going from cold to hot to cold many times... Tadaaa! The CVA Wolf with the power belt went bang, 1st try and the T/C with the loose pyrodex and maxihunter bullet took 3 primers to make it go bang..I think the fat/borebutter around the bullet after a few days made the powder damp a bit. To the point where it took 3 primers to make it go bang. I think the powerbelts sealed the powder better and the wad that it comes with is dry and will not contaminate the powder with moisture. BTW, I keep black electrical tape over the muzzle to keep out debris. I have always wondered how long a charge will stay good for. I believe the plastic bottom introduces no moisture to the charge. Thought I'd share my findings.
  17. Wonderful pics Leo. You are right about the camera. It locks in memories forever.

What curls on those rams! Thanks for sharing them.
  19. I struck out the last few days of muzzleloading season. The deer are well spooked and sightings are few and far between. We did a ton of drives and none of them proved successful. NY's deer season closes today at sundown. Good Luck to all who still have some deer season left.
  20. Nice deep forks on that bad boy! Congrats Kim! A fifty yard shot to boot! Who is this gal?
