  1. Clover on the road and lane in woods is looking great! The peas in the big field are doing great. Most are thigh to chest high. The whitetail institute in the big field are growing good. Some areas better than others. And the mineral site in the thick woods is still getting hit hard. View out of a ladder stand over looking the big field

I have no idea why people say that. I have heard it from everyone and have never experienced greasy meat. My spring bear had maybe 1 pound of fat on its enitre body. The fall bear I got my buddy on last year had 4" of fat covering the whole thing. But once skinned and fat removed it was pretty nice lean meat. I cook it all kinds of ways and have zero issues with it. MY favorite is breakfast sausage and I add pork fat to that. I also like it ground for burgers and roast cut for jerky and crockpot stuff. Very good meat.
  3. We can not use any electonics here. Folks use a ton of spinners here, but they are all pull string controlled. I dont use one and kill plenty of ducks. I use a jerk cord a ton. I pull the cord and hold it back under pressure until the ducks are over head, let it go and they dekes 'swim' away from me opening up a nice hole for the real ducks to land it. Boom, dead. I also use keel less that the bottom is recessed creating an air pocket under them. With a tiniest breeze from a fart, they dance all over the water. Plenty of motion. If we could use electronics here, the only thing I would buy would be a remote control decoy, like a remote control boat. I would use that to just pass the time driving around and racing my hunting buddies.

Been eating on it since I killed it. ONly have 3 pounds of roast left and 4 pounds of breakfast sausage. I need hunting season to start and be successful soon. I am about out of meat. I have yet to purchase any meat this year and really hope I dont have to. I am also doing a half mount on it. From the belly forwards will be hanging off the wall. Hide is getting tanned now. Taxidermist has a good chunk of cash in his pocket, so hopefully when the hide gets back from tanning he will start on it and I will have it back sooner than later.

  8. This was my target and goal for last year. A neighbor killed him during the rifle season. Hopefully I can find his dad, brother or son this year.
  9. Happy late Birthday. Hope it was a good one for you.

    Benji!!!!!

Dont consider any hunting while you're out here, well for big game. You dont even want to look at the prices for out of state licenses and tags. Small game and waterfowl on the other hand would be doable if youre interested. "Get at me" when you know more details woman.
  13. Can you get and ship a pallet of shotgun shells? If so, what kind of pricing do you have for 3" #2s or #3s steel shot. Rems or Win middle of the road stuff.
  14. Good luck. The bears are out hot and heavy. I have been getting reports from the upper panhandle of some mosters getting killed. They started seeing them 3 weeks ago in the high areas so hopefully where you will be they will be out as well. I killed mine last weekend and there was still some snow around but the bears were out. All low feeding on the nice green grasses coming up. If you put your bait out the day you get there, spend the rest of that day low on the new growth and grass, you will find them.

    Spring bear down

Thanks everyone. Nice to see a few names pop back in here! Took the taxidermist out bow fishing this weekend and negotiated a price for a half mount. He came down on price when I asked if he wanted to swim back to the truck! Cant wait for it to be on the wall. Got the perfect spot picked out.

    Spring bear down

Stalked to 22 yards of this bear. Boom, dead. 4 hours into a 4 day hunt. Not to shabby. First bear for me and first blood with the 300.
  17. Ive got one, thinking about selling it....never use it, but like the gun.
  18. I have killed 2 with my bow. Both were neck shots. After body shooting a bird and having it fly off, I told myself I would never take another body shot. I put the two kill shots at the base of the neck. Both birds dead instantly. With an arrow the head and neck are the kill shots. Look at the inside of a turkey, the vitals are smaller that the head and neck. Aim mid front breast for a body shot but be prepared to track them.
  19. Where in SC? I was born and raised there but a long way from 'home' now. There are a few real good members down there as well. Welcome
  20. Congrats Tim on the news! I thought we were going to keep it a secret a little bit longer. I am looking forward to all the hunts with you this year. Doing live updates sitting beside you in the stand is going to be awesome and cut down on text message cost for us. You better get your deer on the first day, thats all I am giving you, then its my turn to pull the trigger.
  21. Got some work done this weekend...A few weeks ago as soon as the snow was gone I got a nice mineral site set up. Now that the snow is gone and the ground has dried out some it was time to turn some dirt. Got about 90% done of what I wanted. Hopefully next weekend I can finish it up. This weekend soil samples will be taken from the field plots and the narrow woods plot and road plot will get some clover seed. Anyhow, here are some pics of what we are doing around the place....My toolsSide of field after a round or two with the disc. From the bottom of the field looking back up to the top, looking towards where the pic above was taken.Same as last picSide of drive into the propertyUpper section of wooded plot heading towards the top of the fieldLower section of wooded plot looking into the top of the field. From ladder stand in top of field over looking all but the left hand corner of field.
  22. 2 weeks ago Congrats! I have no idea what I am going to plant yet, but some clover on the logging roads and along the driveway. Im hoping, I can break some ground this weekend and get some good soil samples to get tested. Then go from there. Im thinking I am going to try some sort of pea/bean maybe some corn, alfalfa and some sort of summer blend. I will have irrigation at random spots throughout the field.
  23. Nice! I'm headed up to the cabin today after work. Going to try and take off the backhoe attachment to the tractor tomorrow morning. 3500 lbs of awkwardness, hopefully I can do it by myself. If that comes off and all is well, I will be hooking the disc up and breaking ground. Got a lot of planting I need to do. Snow just melted, and the ground has dried to a point where I shouldnt screw up to much with the tractor. Hope for the best.
