I was thinking about hunting the muzzel loader season in Kentucky this year. I was looking at the Daniel Boone National forest. Is there anyone on here that could help me out with some suggestions on what areas in the forest to start looking at.

[quote name= What about rifle caliber? You didn't say what type of game is being hunted. I assume you are talking about deer. In which case I agree that a 300. Win Mag. is as big as you need. My personnal favorite is the 270 Win. and I limit my shots to 300 yards. Just so no one else says it first. I do make every attempt to get closer if possible. Finally you mention a 7.62 X 55 Swedish Mauser. Are you sure that is the right caliber designation. I have never heard of that one and if it is correct I would like to have a private disscussion with you about that rifle. Sounds interesting. :gun2:

Another part of the fenced hunting operations is, these deer are actually raised and breed to produce huge racks. I have seen web sites where they have actual pictures of their bucks and the client can pick the actual deer he wants to hunt. Many of them are 200+ in antler size and cost upwards of $20,000.00. Now no matter how big the enclosure is. You can't convince me that something isn't being done to make sure the client is getting his 20K worth. :death:

I came in late to this discussion and I have yet to see anyone mention the most unethical form of hunting on the planet. Maybe it is so obvious that no one felt they needed to mention it. However, how does everyone feel about the people that pay thousands or dollars to hunt trophys of all kinds inside of fenced inclosures. It's perfectly legal but is it ethical? How does that line up with the moral compass of those that think if it's legal it's ethical?

Even if it is true, who cares. I say ship them every AK 47 in the country. Then sit back and watch them kill each other off in record numbers. Then we won't have to worry about them any more. :gunsmilie:

As a Veteran I'm glad he didn't show up. I don't think I could not have stomached the hypocracey. I know I could have never served under him. :gun2: -
She probably got tired of being married to an idiot.

30 30 Has killed more deer than any other.
hunterbobb replied to hunterbobb's topic in Rifles & Accessories
See that phrase moderate range always pops up when we talk about the 30-30. As ethical hunters don't we owe it to the game we hunt to use the best equipment available to ensure a clean kill. Why use a rifle that is moderate anything when there are better options available. :gun2: -
Cograts on the new bow. Good Luck on the Hunt. Wish I could go with you.

This is excellent advice. Look at it and remember. Highschool is where your life really starts. High school will determine what college you get into. What college you get into will determine what job you get. What job you get will determine what the quality of your life will be till the day you die. So don't screw it up or you'll end up like a bunch of us old farts on here with nothing better to do than talk about huntin'. LOL. Congrats and good luck on the rest of your life.

So most of the people here, myself included, agree that these shows suck. So who is watching them.

Wow I bow to a greater man and to the magical power of the 30-30. I guess I have been wrong all this time. Please accept my humble apologises. :hammer1: -
Welcome to the forums. Those are a lot of questions to answer. Some of the simple answeres are in my opinion Bow hunting is all about scent control. (Except with turkeys cause they can't smell.) You have to get close to your target. So look into scent control products. Do some research and buy what seems logical to you. I wash my clothes in scent free soap and then they go into a special scent eliminator bag. I shower with scent free soap. I chew gum that eliminates scent from your breath. Supposedly 80% of your scent comes out your mouth. I don't know if it's true but I believe it. You can hunt from a tree or from the ground it is up to you and depends somewhat on what you are hunting. Whitetail deer is probably the most popular animal hunted with a bow. Turkey and Black bear would probably be next. Then there is Elk, Cariboo, Antelope, Fish and others. If you can hunt it, someone has shot it with a bow. I have even seen guys bow hunting for upland birds. I guess 50 lbs is the average draw weight for a hunting bow. Make sure you practice and you should be able to keep all your arrows on a 9" paper plate at what ever range you plan to hunt at. Good luck you have a lot of work to do. Bowhunting takes much more commitment to the sport than hunting with a rifle or a shotgun. :gun2:

I don't watch any of them any more. Some of them are canned hunts where they are hunting inside a fenced enclosure. All of them are guided hunts where some elseone does all the work. The star of the show just walks out to some stand the guide told him to go to. All of them celebrate like they just really accopmplished something great. There is not enough respect paid to the animal they just harvested. I saw one show where a Rich Doctor decided he was going to take up hunting and he wanted his 14 year old son to go with him. On the second day of the fenced hunt the kid shoots a big buck. Then he is talking about how their patients paid off. How you have to wait for the right time to harvest the animal you really want. Give me a break this kid spent maybe 10 hours in a stand and he's telling me about patients. It made me sick. Finally most of them are just pimping some product they are tring to sell you. I spend my time watching History or Discovery channels. I guess it's never too late to get an education. :gun2:

I actually saw that thing driving around.

Another guy thats baiting me. LOL. At least you get my point. I have no objections to the 30-30. It isn't my choice for a rifle for deer hunting, but I understand thousands of hunters love theirs. What gets my blood boiling is the implication that it some how has magical powers and that is why it has killed so many deer. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. -
I agree with a few others. After turkey season ends I switch to deer mode.

What is a good inexpensive bow for deer hunting?
hunterbobb replied to desideriascott's topic in Deer Hunting
It's not exactly cheap but it won't break the bank either. I bought a Parker Wildfire XL. I was looking for the same thing you are. A good bow that wasn't going to break the bank. I love mine. :tt1: -
The best thing to do is try to figure out where the bucks are entering the field to feed . If they are. Set up about 30 yards into the woods from where the bucks are coming in from. Make sure you take into account the prevailing wind dirrection. Try to set up so your scent doesn't blow across the trail you are watching. :gun2:

How have you been Kid haven't heard from you for awhile. If you can afford one I would consider a tri pod stand. You can set it anywhere and can even add comoflage to it. Best bet would be to tuck it in close to one of the pine trees. :camera:

Sounds like a great place. I would be willing to come down and help you out if you need any help harvesting those monsters. :tt1:

Wow that is a good price. I just bought a new bow in 2008 or I'd be all over this deal.
