Bowhunting is one of the most humbling sports. You can have the highest of highes and the lowest of lows, don't beat your self up to much I was there with you last week by hitting a big 10 high in the shoulder and getting nothing but meat. I did see him the next day making scrapes, though.

Well, I choked on a big one and got skunked last week. It was probably the worst week of hunting I have ever had and if it could have went wrong it did. The wind, the moon, and just plain out stupid stuff from me. I shot a doe on opening day, qaurtered away at 24 yards. I busted the offside shoulder and broke her down, she jumped up and took off. About a minute later I heard her gurgling blood and that was it. Found a great blood trail and still haven't found her yet. I past up over 15 bucks to finally get to draw on a 120-130 class 10 point at 23 yards, didn't have a clue in the world I was around. Drew back and settled the pin on his side just above the heart, then got a cae of the jerk fever. I could have hit the trigger with ahammer and made a better shot than that. I hit him high just below the spine and top of the shoulder. Nothing but meat, he walked off like nothing was wrong. good news is a saw him the next evening out making scrapes and doing fine just a little bit sore I guess. Sorry guys I didn't get us on the board but I'm going to try and go back down in October then I've got a week hunt in November in Ohio. Good luck you and I hope you have better luck than I did. I hunted three different stands and had 7 Does come in on two occassions and six on another and never got a shot off due to the wind bending me over and giving it to me. lol -

I just got Does last year, passed on a lot of small bucks waiting on the big one. I can be counted on for at least five points and maybe some bonus points if a biggun walks out. good luck to all of you and be safe most of all! What ever name you folks decide on is fine with me, -
I think you'll really like this camera, I bought two of the 4.0 IR's this year and have been getting great photos of all kinds of animals. My buddy just informed me I've one monster on camera in one area and have four monsters on camera in the other area I will be hunting. I can't wait to get my SD cards back so I can see them.

Keep it within your confidant range, even if is only out to 25 yards and under. I practice most of time at 40 and 50 yards so the 30, 20 and under shots are a chip shot. Like it was stated in another post, get them close and don't have to worry about the long shots. I taken one deer at 40 yards and that was only because the situation was perfect for the long of shot. I've two at 30 yards and the rest have been any where from 25 and under. The big key to bow hunting is not how far you can shot them but how close.
-
My two hunting bows are sighted in at 40 yards which I can shoot comfortably out to 45, just hold about 2" higher on the spot I want to hit and let the low side drag. My tournament bow is sighted in to 50 yards and that pinis good out to 55 yards.
-
Yours pins are purely set up to the distances you set them at. They aren't specifically designed for those yardages. You might be able to set them up in 5 yard increments if the speed of your bow is slow enough. But with new bows today the speeds are substantial enough to set your sight pins up at 20, 30, and 40 yards.

Good luck buddy and keep us posted on your hunt! May the big buck god shine down on you today! Be safe!
-
Good luck to you! Are they coming off of someone elses property before they get to were you are hunting? If not, I'd try and find the trails they are following out of the woods into the field and place a stand on that location. JMO Best of luck again and be safe! I've got 12 more days before I can get into the woods.

That is awesome and I know you will charish that hunt forever. Congratulations!

I'm a firm believer in the STS, especially sine I just got three bows this spring with them installed from the factory. I can't believe the difference int he feel and sound of the bow. I would recommend these for any bow can have one installed.

Ditto! and muscle fatigue is usually the reason for erractic shot groups. I can deal with a few bad shots on the practice range it's the target range I know I'll get one shot and those are were they count. Plenty of time for your muscle to recoupe between targets.

A slightly bent arm is the correct form to be shooting, if your arm is straight then this puts your foreearm in the path of the string as it is released. A slight bend allows the forearm to naturally rotate back out of the way. As for repeatability of shooting form, if your shooting form which is your anchor points are met every time then you are shooting the same every time. It is recommended to have more than one anchor point so you know if you are not anchored properly. Personally I use the string touching my nose, the fletching touching my face and where my hand rest at full draw on the side of my jaw bone; if any of these aren't in position I know something in my form isn't right.

I hear you buddy! The same thing happend down here in NC, it always opens the Saturday after Labor which would be the 6th this year. Luckily I have last class for this course that week so I didn't schedule the following week off. I planned on taking the second week of the season and fortunately that is the opening week this year. I about killed over just thinking if I had taken that week off for nothing. So yes! Everyone be sure and check their dates for opening day this year.

Looks to be in the mid to lower 130's on the gross.

Calm down, its not all your are reading about. I've lived here for over 30 years now and there is plenty of property (government land) to hunt as well some private if you've got the right connections. My sig says Mills River and that is only 20 minutes from Asheville. Pesonally I don't like the Asheville area but the surrounding area's are great, it just cost to much live in the Asheville area and yes there are a wide variety of cultures there. As for hunting area, there is Bent Creek, the Blue Ridge Parkway in certain areas, Fosters Creek, Mills River, Pisgah National Forest and these are all within 30-45 minutes of Asheville.

Yep, I shoot one at least every other day but it has ROSS on it instead of Quest. Same bows-Just a different name.
-
This is so true and live by it. Also, make sure your bow is tuned very well, if not you'll be fighting large groups consistantly. I can't stress enough to practice, practice, and practice more. Just don't over do it, when your muscles get fatigued-giv'em a break because you'll create some bad habits trying to compensate for tired muscles.

so is the new hot bow everyone wants this year
Straight Shooter replied to ROADKILL04's topic in Bowhunting
My new hot bows are the 07 Cardiac's, I bought three of them this year (1@50-60# and 2@60-70#) and man do they shoot like a dream. I can't wait to get them into the woods. -
Well, I've had such a long list this year and getting it filled as well. Picked up three new Cardiac's New Moultrie 4.0 camera 2 dozen shafts Decked out my bows New deer feeder Camera holder for trail camera new stand another set of rapid rails new nikon range finders new set of lacrosse boots some more camo in RT AP and my list continues to grow the closer hunting season gets. LOL Still to hit on the list is a new trailer for my four wheeler.
-
I've hunted with and still shoot both black and camo shafts, have yet to see a difference in speed from one to the other. Beleive me, I shoot all my arrows through a chrono. This guy must have been wanting to move some of his old black shafts that aren't selling very well.
-
I'm surprised there aren't tickers going right now, its usually about the time a few member get them going. LOL I guess I'll be heading outinto the woods in a few weeks to do some stand location recon.
-
It's still the same camo, RT just gave the HD (High Definition) after they gave the grey some touch up of more detail into the camo pattern. Trust me, the deer will not know the difference.
