  1. Re: I am about to snap Wow, what are they teaching in public schools these days? (no offense to anyone, but I wqs homeschooled, lol). I would not make a kid do that, is it even legal? I wouldn't let him do such a thing. Instead, pay a visit to the teach and principle, lol.
  2. Re: Outdoors Class - Feedback Please Wow, sounds like a fun class; I'd take it,lol! Well one issue may be the people come for the services and afterwards, after spending time at the service, don't want to go to a class, or mayeb they don't want to miss a service. Umm...I'd definitely think you'd maybe have a better turn-out if it wasn't male specific, see if any females would be interested. Maybe alot of people do not know about the class; maybe you could put some flyers out around town and nearby towns advertising the class which also works as a good way to bring more people to the church, to the class, and ultimately Christ:) Another though I had was maybe trying to offer the class during a weekday evening, because maybe alot of families want t spend time togetehr during the weekends, and only having males in the class means they have to chose either class or family. It sounds like you have some good classes to offer though! You may want to offer more than just hunting related, maybe canoe/camping/hiking trips, maybe a once a year trip somewhere out of town, the possiblities are endless! I hope this helps, just some of my ideas. I'll let youk now if I have any suggestions and feel free to pm me with any questions!
  3. Hopefully some of you can give me some suggestions. Last month I went to a NWTF Women in the Outdoors Event and learned how to fly fish from a nationally known lady! Anyway I am hooked on fly fishing now and would like to get a rod and reel and such and start fly fishing. I am looking for something that will be good for a beginner but is of good quality but not expensive. Keep in mind I just graduated and I might be going back to college, lol I've only looked in Cabela's catalogs right now but can anyone tell me what I should be looking for, where I should be looking , what would be good? Thanks!
  4. Re: Outdoors Class - Feedback Please Well, I just graduated from a Christian college with a degree in outdoor education and I had lots of outdoor classes so maybe I can help you. What types of hand-on-activities are you offering? What do you want to see in the program aka more participation, all males or females to? When is the class offered?
  5. Re: It\'s all over Thanks everyone!:-)
  6. Re: Does anyone collect... LOL @ Tominator!
  7. Re: never again LMBO! When we drove to PA one time, there is a back road (I call it a paved back road, don't know about the rest of you, lol) and we drove it one time coming back, in the dark. There are no signs saying where there is a curve, the lanes are narrow, it is insane in the dark! ok, it was fun but insane! PA roads are a riot!!
  8. Re: Does anyone collect... Whoa, you guys have alot! I only have like one tractor, a planter, baler, and wagon in 1/16 scale, then a few in the 1/64, 1/32 scale, maybe 10 total, lol.
  9. those Ertl replica tractors? I have a few, I was a major tractor nut when I was little and actually I still am and was thinking about getting into collecting them, even though they'll have to stay behind when I die,lol I don't even know how to drive a real tractor, lol, but I don't what it is about them but I love them for some reason. When I was really young, we would get milk at a near by the farm, the same farm today that own's the land we hunt on, and we used to live down the road a little closer to the farm. When I was little, and my mom can attest to this, if I heard a tractor, I was off and running to the window to see it go by Even now, a big time farmer here who owns other land around us but doesn't let us hunt, he has these awesome John Deere's, you know the big ones with front and rear dual tires, I see those go by and am like "wow, how awesome a machine. I wish I could drive that" lol. So I have a few small Ertls from when I was younger, and even have around 100 + of the collectible cards. People think I'm weird to love tractors but hey, it's just me I guess. Anyone else??
  10. Re: THANKS FROM DAKOTA\'S FAMILY!!! That is wonderful! I will continue to keep Dakota in my prayers and especially ask that he be blessed with a big ol' elk!:-)
  11. Re: wood ticks[pic] Those things are ugly and nasty! Ooohh, they give me the creeps!
  12. Well, I'm really really really tired as I write this and will try to go to bed soon to try to hunt turkeys in the morning, but I just thought I'd share with you all that I have "officially" graduated from Houghton College with a B.S. in Outdoor Recreation. Of course I still have to do my internship this summer which I start in a few weeks, but good enough I didn't get to bed until midnight last night, got up at 7am. My mom, sister and I drive over to campus, got there before 9, they got seats and I stood around until 9:30am where I met the rest of my fellow rec. students where we lined up with everyone else outside the chapel, for a procession around the quad then into the chapel. I won't go into detail because I am dead tired, but it was a blast and I thank the Lord the 4 years he blessed me with at this college; there are so many good memories, and despite some of the annoying times, it was a blast. No, I did not trip and fall on the stage and hurt myself or anything; I think that is worthy of an award, lol So we got home around noon, had shrimp and mussels and watched a movie, lol. I would have been getting a newish shotgun for a graduation present, but that didn't work out for certain reasons, so I didn't really get anything big deal, but I'd got my mom and sister, good memories, and the Lord on my side. My mom and sister did bake me a cake and we had lobster for dinner, lol They did get like 3 photos so I'll try to post them soon so you all can see me out of camo Ok, it's almost 10 and I'm still not in bed so I'm going to try to get there. Have a good night everyone and for those of you in college, enjoy each minute of it because when it ends, then you realize how much you'll miss it.
  13. I don't know when I'm going to fit in turkey hunting. I was going to go out this morning but didn't, since I didn't get to sleep until 11pm and since it was pouring rain all night, I think I thought it was at 5am. Anyway, I have graduation rehersal at 10am this morning, then Baccaleureate at 6pm tonight, followed by this somedy thing called Spot put on by the senior students at 10pm. Of course, I have actualy graduation at 10am tomorrow morning, but I have to be there at 9:30am. After that end, I don't think there is anything else I have to do except yell at someone to find out where my senior t-shirt is I paid $8 for and ordered 4 weeks ago and it is now gradutaion - slackers, lol. Don't worry though, my mom and sis will have the camera so I should have a few photos for you all to see me in something other than camo Though I think it would have been neat to have a Realtree cap and gown with a safety orange tassel
  14. I don't know what happened because I shut my alarm off at 10 to 5 and went back to sleep, lol. Besides just being exhausted, not hearing any gobbling and not sure where there is a tom and whether he's alive or not does not give one alot of motivation. It is suppose to rain today and this weekend so I'm hoping this is good news and the turkeys will be in the fields and will include that tom. I'll probably go out tonight it not thundering and look at the fields and go out to the field by the gravel pit in the am before graduation rehersal. As much as I love hunting, sometimes it is too much of a challenge.
  15. Well I got up at 4:30am, was at the state land at 5am, eventually got hiked into the hardwoods where there was alo of turkey sign previously. I heard and saw nothing. Saw alot of old scratchings, nothing really fresh. I moved around on the ridge, seeting up and calling like a hen wandering around. I moved off the ridge a little bit into this bautilf Maple clearing, the picture perfect spot for a tom to come strutting into range; nada! Then on a ridge across from me, they started logging and I saw they clear cut part of the ridge over there. While I was probably at least 1/2 - 1 mile away, it was hard to hear a thing! So I hiked out, got in the car and headed home. On a dirt road towards home, a hen ran out in front of me,lol, at least I was driving slow. I was hoping a tom was behind her but no. Didn't see any other hunters. Saw a few spots where hunters had been sitting against some trees but it was yet another long, slow morning that is making my season not look to good so far. I'm going to go fishing later though and tomorrow morning probably go back to the "home ground".
  16. Re: Pics From the Kentucky Derby Oh wow, you are lucky guy and gal, lol! Very awesome photos! I watched the Derby from the living room, lol
  17. And I didn't hear a sound, any gobble sounds that is. I heard a ton of song birds and preoccupied myself watching birds through the binoculars while occassionally giving some clucks and yelps but nothing! Headed home and saw a hen back out in the field by the gravel pit. I'm not sure if there is just one turkey or several but from the looks of it, they are really tearing it up dusting by that field! There is a sandy spot on the edge of the woods and everytime I check there, it is freshly scratched up and such from turkeys dusting, there must be like 5 different dust bowls and tons of tracks in there, it's crazy! Do you think just one turkey is doing this or more? One piece of good news is I found one of my strikers I lost 1-2 years ago, lol. One of my Knight & Hale strikers I use on my Ol' Yeller, saw the sunlight reflect of the handle. I guess it makes up for my all wood striker I lost last Tuesday chasing that gobbler who is no where to be seen or heard. Seems every year I lose something. I think tomorrow morning I'm going to head up to the state land and give that a try for a little while. at least, there doesn't seem to be anyone hunting the "home ground" any more, but I wonder if that gobbler is dead or not....

  21. Re: This is scary.... LOL, some of you have weird though patterns, lol. I haven't seen him back but who knows...
  22. Re: This is scary.... My mom thinks he's been confiscating bird food from the bird feeders, so we may have to defend ourselves, lol.
  23. Re: Prayers please one of my friends died and hospital Wow, how tragic and sad. One can only hope a lesson or lessons are learned from this. Will be sure to send a prayer.
  24. Re: ***NEW FORUM FEATURE*** Wow, very cool! Thanks! I thought those stars by my name weren't there before, lol!
  25. This was outside my bedroom yesterday....I'm not sure what to think...maybe we should call animal control? Parents, keep your children and pets in the house at night...lol LMBO! If you can't see it, it is a chipmunk sitting on the axe head stuck into a stump of wood from a Maple tree we had to take down in the early spring due to it almost falling on my bedroom. Creepy little guy isn't he!? lol, I love it! Hope you enjoy!
