Well with the weather being awesome and me wanting to find some sheds, I spent both days this weekend hiking. Yesterday I went hiking on this old railroad which people now atv and snowmobile on. There are a few fields next to it that deer feed in but of the entire hike, I found not one shed! I did get myself a little lost. First I followed this awesome little creek with deep pools and clear water. Then I took this old logging trail, ended up hiking too far below the railroad trail and found myself outside of my college's town! So I had to hike about a mile back up this big hill and finally go back on the railroad trail and got back home. I wasn't worried at all, just got a little tired of being "lost",lol! Then today I took a hike to this little creek running on the land I hunt which has some wild brook trout. I found no sheds, did find the remains of what I believe to be that doe I shot but lost the blood trail and couldn't find during bow season, and all I caught were a bunch of fat minnows! I still had a great time, the sun shining, birds singing, God's creation as beautiful as ever. Then I found some people's tracks in some mud that I found in a field the day before and I'm wondering if they are scouting turkeys for NY's youth turkey hunt weekend, I hope not! I even came across my mom who had decided to take a walk in the woods and us, along with the three dogs dug some leeks(wild onions) for dinner. Well this has turned into a long post, lol! Enjoy the beauty of nature while you can people!

Re: I\'m back from PA! Actually Reloader, the professor was telling one of the girl's in the group next to us to twist her hand and arm in this crevice to try to get some leverage to climb up this crevice. Only one person in that group got up that crevice, lol

Fly fishing as breast cancer therapy
Turkeygirl replied to HuntingInMaine's topic in Women & Hunting
Re: Fly fishing as breast cancer therapy In a recent issue of Outdoor Life magazine I got, they have a section on 5 female guides and one of them teaches fly fishing to women with cancer. I thought that was pretty cool! -
Re: I\'m back from PA! Glad you got the magazines:o)

Well guys, we left yesterday morning about 9am, got back to campus a little after 9pm, I got home at 9:30pm and got to bed at 11pm! The trip was fun. We took two vans and I rode up front with the one girl who was driving and we had fun talking and joking around. We drove through Warren,PA, and Tionesta,PA and a few other weird little towns, lol. We followed the Allegany River alot of the way and man that river was high! We even saw where it was up to some of the houses on the banks and on one road there was water about 3 feet fron each side of the road! We got to Panther Rocks which is on some hunting club's land and above the Allegany River. We practice setting top-ropes then we went to the base of our climbs, in 3 groups of 4 and each group set their own climb, with the professor checking them first. My group's climb was tough, all the foot and hand holds were like 3-5 feet from the ground so when the prof. wasn't looking, we boosted each other up We each rotated, taking turns climbing, spotting, and belaying. When I finally got to climb, I only got onto the first foothold, then when trying to jump and reach a hand hold, I banged my knee twice into a ledge on the rock face which hurt but I'm only bruised We picked up trash on the way out, left about 5pm, and stopped at Arby's in Warren,PA for dinner. Overall a great trip and when you go on trips, you get to know your classmates more which is fun I did get some pics on a disposable camera.

Re: mountain lions in pa I've heard that up in the Adirondacks here in NY there are some, I've even heard that the DEC let some go here to get rid of the coyotes. Even my outdoor rec professor who hunts says he wouldn't be surprised if they are around because they used to be years ago anyway. He said the DEC keeps quiet about some things.

Re: Peculiar sighting Maybe a type of heron or something built it...

Re: For women of all ages I'm 22,lol! I've been hunting since I was 15 or 16, can't remember but it is going on 7 years now. I never really had anyone influence me to hunt, though I was always excited when Andy( family friend/ fatherly figure, lol) would come home with a deer. I guess one day I decided I wanted to hunt andh ave never regretted it. I hunt by myself for the most part. Andy will hunt during deer season but I do squirrel and turkey hunting and deer by myself alot, don't know any female hunters around here, just some rude neighbors, lol! The woods is the best place to be next to heaven!

Because of my outdoor leadership training class going on a rock climbing trip Thursday, all day, I have to miss my favorite class, Recognition and Evaluation of Athletic Injuries. We are doing shoulder testing that day and eventhough I can get notes from a girl in class and the prof can help me, it is easier in class when the prof is there to tell you if you are doing the test right or not,lol In all three years of college so far, this will be only the third time I've missed a class. The first time was because I wrecked the car, the second time because I was throwing up from food poisoning, and this will be the third time. I'll live but I hate missing class!

before school starts up, ugh. I woke up this morning and thought about all the homework I need to work on this weekend which sucks. Then I thought about having to work at the college's horsebarn today and tomorrow. Today at 4pm is the evening feed, tomorrow at 1:30pm is the stall clean and evening feed. At least the weather is really lousy! It is raining and windy and only about 30 degrees and we are suppose to get snow. Hopefully I can get alot of work done so that I can be outside after school during the nice weather on Tuesday and Wednesday. How's everyone else spending their weekend? I'll probably watch a little hunting on TV in between

Re: Well, it is here, CWD in NYS!!!! Wow, how sad. I do not think people should be allowed to have captive deer farms because of this. Also a 6 year old doe is pretty old. What is goingto happen to the deer now? I just hope they don't go shooting everything to prevent it because nothing will help.

Re: Is this true? (I\'m serious now) Yeah I saw it and when the one guy mentioned he heard it on the radio, that makes it even more true, huh? Only thing I don't see anything on local news sites.....
-
Is it true that CWD was found in NY or is this Realtree's prank? My heart is kind of sick feeling because if it is true, then this is not good at all....If it isn't true, I'll be very happy but I dunno what to think..someone tell me?
