  1. Re: New York Opener tomorrow! I don't have to leave, I just walk to where I hunt which is usually crossing a few fields. Or if I don't walk, I just take a 5 minute drive.
  2. Re: got my turkey Woohoo, congrats KC! I'm happy for ya!!
  3. Re: Ugly weather for the opener Thanks buck! LOL yeah when I'm out turkey hunting and I hear thunder, I practically run to the car or home! Last year I was standing on top of a gravel pit in the morning listening to gobblers when the thunder came, I ran down and sat in this big John Deer loader all morning, got some shut eye, lol. I did see a hen come out.
  4. Re: I\'m gonna be in the newspaper! That's cool squirrel. Good luck!
  5. Ok, so this is what the National Weather Service website has given as weather for the day befor and day of turkey season in my part of NY: Saturday: Periods of rain, mainly before 3pm. High around 51. East wind 13 to 16 mph becoming west. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. Saturday Night: Rain showers likely, mixing with snow after 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low near 39. West wind between 15 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Sunday: A chance of rain and snow showers before 9am, then a chance of rain showers. Cloudy, with a high around 47. West wind between 14 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. What do you all think my best chances are, in terms of set-up and finding turkeys? I would suspect this is going to keep some hunters in which will allow me to move around a little more. Would sticking to fields probably be the best set-up? There are several fields I know turkeys go to in the rain but the problem is deciding which fields to set-up at. What are the rest of you in NY doing Sunday?
  6. Re: Went out this morning...help! Thanks so far guys. So far one of my plans, because it may be raining, is to set up on the edge of that field, below the ridge. Another plan is to set up in another area of the woods in hopes of calling a gobbler I did see on land I can't hunt but it next to where I can hunt. Guess I'll have to wait and see but I'd feel better if i heard a gobble or two.
  7. Ok, so I dragged my butt out of bed at 5:15am to go listen for turkeys with season 2 days away. I walked about 1/2 mile up a corn field and sat just inside the woods, several hundred yards below a ridge where I found turkey scratchings the other day. Guys, I heard nothing and I'm worried, lol! I waited until light then tried some hooting to no success. Could a 20 degree temperature have caused the gobblers to shut-up? My other thoughts are if there was a gobbler here, someone got him during the youth hunt, or there are no gobblers around this spot. I don't know where to look. I am going out tonight to another part of the woods to listen and will definitely got out Saturday morning though they said rain. Anyone have any suggestions? Anyone have a free gobbler, lol
  8. Re: CWD Found in wild deer in NY That is really sad. I still think if people didn't feed their "pet" deer feed that is obviously made from animal by products, this wouldn't have happened. There needs to be some kind of law on the food fed to captive deer. At least for now the DEC isn't going to wipe out the deer in every county.
  9. Re: Anyone in this situation?? During my second spring turkey season, which was like 3 years ago or 4, I killed a nice jake the third day into the season. Well I had difficulty decidind whether to go out the next day and go for another because I knew where they were and end my season early, or wait. I opted for ending my season early which I did...2 turkeys in two days. It I were you, I'd be going out because if you wait, you may not have another chance..the bird might quit gobbling, be all henned up, or spooked. I'd say go for it!

    Bummer

Ok, so besides trying to find a gobbler for opening morning ,which has not been easy because the weather sucks, I just got done with my first final of finals week, my intro to Psych exam. I don't think I did well. Besides not studying alot, it was hard, so that is probably not going to keep me in the A's and B's this semester. Could you all just say a prayer that I get through finals and also that I find a turkey, lol

I really want to find a gobbler fo opening morning, but the weather has sucked and I don't want to spook them in the woods, anyone have any suggestions?
