  1. ouch! That looks like it hurt!
  2. great news my friend. I wish you the best! todd
  3. looks great--Have you planted the Hamann Farms winter mix before? I screwed up this year and didn't get any ordered--just ended up planting some generic rape and I know it won't do as well. My deer have hammered Martin's winter brassica mix in the past--best winter mix I have ever planted. I always plant it with wheat. I did plant some of his grower mix that I had left over since I didn't get to plant any last year due to the extreme drought. look forward to the progress reports. We are expecting rain here all weekend so hopefully my plots will germinate next week. todd
  4. i have a kenco tornado feeder---two 9V batteries operate 3 motors. I run the feeders all year and change the batteries every 6 months whether they need it or not. My Moultrie feeder which runs on one battery for one motor that throws twice a day will last about 3 months. I use the Energizer batteries.
  5. very nice--your deer should eat well this winter.
  6. geese are more of a bonus bird for me. I just don't see a lot of geese where I hunt but occasionally have a few fly by so I always set out a few floaters with a few shells on the shore by them.
  7. If I had to plant only one out of the group I'd pick the Ladino. I've also had good luck with the White Dutch and the Kenland Red. I planted yellow sweet one year and it did not do well. Maybe a nice mix of the Ladino, dutch, and the red. I'd also go and get a small bag of chicory and add that to the mix. todd
  8. William--you are in the same situation I was in last year. Heck--last spring I didn't even plant. All my clover/alfalfa fields burned up--even the chicory was toast. I was surprised this spring to see the clover regenerate--don't know if it was from roots or reseeding. We have a 40% chance or better just about everyday this week so hopefully the seeds will get a drink. I still have one more plot to do at my 80 acres--was planning on doing this week but may end up being too wet.
  9. if it doesn't make it next time consider planting trefoil. It can withstand short flooding pretty good. Hope it rebounds. todd
  10. I tilled and planted 3 plots this weekend on my 160 acres. The first plot is on my waterfowl pond. I planted 150# of wheat and 50# of a local wildlife mixture. Second plot is about 1/2 acre--I planted some Hamann Farms clover/trefoil that I didn't get to plant last year due to the severe drought. I added 30# of wheat and 10# of the wildlife mix as a nurse crop. The 3rd plot is a long narrow plot that follows the contour of a creek. It's probably about 100 yards long and 10 yards wide. This is a pic of my stand on the creek: Here is a pic of my Hamann Farms clover/trefoil plot that I planted 4 years ago. I was going to kill it all this summer and replant but after the spring rains I had a lot of regrowth from the clover/trefoil. There are a lot of grassy weeds but still lots of forage for the deer. I mowed it 3 times this summer to knock out a lot of the weeds. My spring planting is still producing a lot of food: todd
  11. good luck with the BFO---I've never spent the money on the good stuff---i always just buy the mill oats.
  12. i've been there. I'll be planting this weekend.
  13. awesome--best of luck this season.
  14. starts saturday as well here in okie land. No plugs and electronic calls are legal here for the resident goose hunt. I'll be dove hunting though.
  15. Here is a link to some great tips on training a retriever--there are books out there that cover training in much more detail such as SmartFetch and Smartwork. Tips 1 and 2 go over force fetching! http://www.dobbsdogs.com/library/retrievers/index.html
  16. gitcha--i'll have to disagree with you on this one. He clearly explains in his last video and actually instructs the other hunters in his blind to shoot them again on the way down. If you will look at the cover he is hunting at his club it is thick flooded corn. He is actually being a better hunter/conservationist by trying not to lose game and harvest every bird shot. A crippled duck in the flooded corn can be extremely hard to find--even with good dogs. As far as laughing---that's his way of celebrating a good shot--not any different then when hunting with your buddies and you shoot an animal and screaming or giving high fives.
  17. I agree with Chris---it filled in nicely!

    Main Duck Tank

great lookin pooch. Have you introduced him to live birds and gunfire yet?
  19. I never deer hunt without it. Maybe a gimmick but it gives me confidence. It's not 100%--I've been busted before wearing it and have also had deer walk directly down wind of me and never smelled me.

    Why now!

sorry to hear about the bad news. I had my knee scoped for the first time about this time last year--torn cartilage. Prayers for a quick recovery.
  21. I don't know if forcing will help. The dog still has to have a retrieving desire--no way to force that. Force fetching will help clean up sloppy fetching but if the dog doesn't have a retrieving desire it's time to find a new dog.
  22. pages are loading just fine for me. e-mail address is a little hard to read--and like william stated you need to center the lettering over the item pictures.
