oats. They are probably the most attractive of the fall cereal grains. IMO the best "early season" attraction. They die after the first good freeze. Plant about 1 month before bow season starts. At planting fertilize with 50# of 10-20-10--then about 10 days before season fertilize again with another 25#. That will be one attractive plot.
As far as a DVD I would recommend "Fowl Dogs 1"

For a book I would recommend the Smartwork series:

Or even better join a local retriever club!

Steve--they only lost 4 extra scholarships over 2 yeas (so that equals 2 a year). They lost all the wins for the 2005 season (big deal). They are still bowl elgible during the probation and can still compete for the national championship. They didn't lose any money earned during the 2005 season and they did not get banned from TV. It was very minor IMO.
not really that big of a deal IMO. Lose one recruiting coach for the next few years and a couple more scholarships. I don't think it will hurt ZeroU much. They are loaded with talent and Poops, I mean Stoops, will keep the talent rolling in.
that is the exact reason I never plant perennial plots in the spring. It is just so hard for the new young clover to out compete the weeds. Just keep in mowed is your best bet. You could try spraying with some 2-4DB but this is for established perennial legumes. It might fry a new planting but don't know for sure.
I usually start spraying and discing the plot in the spring and keep spraying until fall planting. This pretty much ensures and good clean seed bed with I plant in the fall. Yes--I still get some weeds/grass competition in the spring but the clover is so well established it usually outcompetes the weeds. Plus it handles mowings and herbicides just fine.
best of luck

i bet your fuel line/intake /or jet is gummed up with old oil/gas. In the future try to use a fuel stabilizer in your gas--this will save a lot of hard ache and money in the future. Needs to be taken apart and cleaned all the fuel line/jets cleaned.
Luke--if i were you i'd be happy i had the gag reflex. Use this as a positive motivation to never pick up the habit again.
congrats on the first year

nothin'--the corn does the trick! There are several companies that make a powder you can mix with corn. I have tried apple flavored deer corn but really didn't see any difference in use.
congrats on the new lab---best huntin' partner you could ask for!
Go get you a few pigeons and start introducing birds immediately--the birdier you get them at a young age the better--here is Peach at 5 weeks of age:

it all depends on the number of deer but I've had smaller plots than that as hunting plots---and I see lots of deer use these small plots. I have had my best luck planting a mixture of wheat and Austrian winter peas on my small hunting plots. Fertilize heavy and you will be surprised how well the wheat will produce even with quite a bit of pressure.
good luck
