Hey Team...I scored a doe for us! OK Heres the skinny... Got up to our hunting camp around 5pm Weds night. Got all set to go out in the morning. It was 20 degrees!!! YEEHAHHH...I could only sit on stand until 9, didn't see a thing. Man... did I look forward to that cup of coffee when I got back. Got back on stand around 2. The sun heated everything up real nice. It was comfy on stand . At 4:30 I take my bow off the hook and get ready. This is when stuff happens...at this time...show time:). At 5pm the noise starts. I hear rustling and 2 fawns come out to eat apples. 12 minutes later...2 mature doe step out and take the long way to the apple tree. I see them, I draw sitting down, searching with my lip for the kisser button through my mask... and I hold... waiting for them to get in my sight picture. They take the long way... damn...15 yards...20 yards... they stop at 30 and start grooming themselves...I'm holding...I'm holding...One goes over to the fawns...I get a bead on the doe thats all alone. (I know she is a hair over 30 yards, I hit that spot with my rangefinder before... when I got set.) I settle my 30 yard pin on her chest...exhale, aim and let fly...She jumped the string a bit, but I hit her good and the arrow drove right up into her chest and she took off into the brush with the arrow buried to the fletch. I waited 20 minutes and it got dark on me. I came back the next morning with a neighbor. All I thought about was the coyotes in the area. We picked up the blood trail again, found my arrow and her intact. She ran uphill instead of left or right. Weird... This was a special deer to me and I have shot a bunch of doe with my bow... Why?... I consider a Sullivan county deer, as opposed to a Rockland county deer(where I live), to be a honest deer. They are less tolerant of human odor and intrusions. Know what it is like to be pursued by predators and really forage for a meal. Not have landscaping to hold them over in the harsh winter food periods. This was the 1st time I ever had to leave a deer lay over night and recover it the next day...1st deer I killed in this stand also. AND... It was the longest shot I EVER killed anything with my bow. 33 yards. Here she is, a big ole molly. -

Hey Team...I waited for my oldest boy Joe(16) to get home from school and we got in the woods by 3:30. At 4:30, Joe radios me to to say we have meat on the ground. He shot a button buck. I got down to help him with the drag back to the house. I didn't see anything while I was on stand. I will be back out there this afternoon. Good Luck everyone. -
Congratulations to your son. The 1st ones are ALWAYS special.
-
I have a few prong rests. I'll send ya the best one I have if you like, and what draw length/poundage is he? I have lots of outgrown arrows too.

Nice...Congrats Ruth! Your on a roll:). Waiti'n on the pics. My son went out this morning and saw nothing here in Rockland county (3R). We took a ride up to our land in Sullivan cty.(3H) to hunt there the afternoon. I let a button buck and a doe with a fawn pass, hoping they would wonder by my son Joe's stand; who was only about 100 yards away. That didn't happen they didn't read the script:(. Boy am I sorry, I did not spend the time this summer to ERADICATE ALL the Red squirrels from our land. They can make a real miserable time on stand while they are barking at you for 5 hours, I wished I had the shotgun with me . I will be back up at our house in Sullivan Wednesday to give it another shot. Good luck everyone.

I think it IS a Mtn. Lion by the cat like movements and the long swaying tail. The color looks about right too. Thats looks like a dump of some sort where the vid was taken... and it is no secret that cats eat garbage. For confirmation, you'd need tracks and scat.

Go get 'em Steve....Thanks for the update Diana:)

My son and I saw nothing all morning yesterday and for the afternoon, all we saw was a button buck. I think the moon is wrong and there is a lot of light at night for deer to do their business and not travel much during the day. I think they are moving mid day. I will be out at 11am. My son went out this morning, I felt it was futile, we have lots of time left...watch...he'll bring back a big buck saying told ya Dad you should've gone out this morning:D

I'm saying 158. What a whopper Chris...Congrats again!
