  1. Most ranchers will give permission for antelope hunting but deer/elk is another story. CB
  2. Sounds like you had all the fun & none of the work. It's a lot WORK when you have a moose down. CB
  3. Earth---First------We'll mine that one later. CB
  4. You get what you pay for
  5. Total waste. There are a few others that are a waste also. CB
  6. Bet it sounded like a cannon going off. I had a ponderosa pine get hit just off my back deck a few years ago. Bark flew everywhere. You can see the path it took down the tree. It was a big boom. CB
  7. Good luck, post some photos & I hoped you packed bug spray. CB
  8. Back when I use to hunt waterfowl--- rough rule of thumb was that a mod choke with steel was like a full choke with lead. Steel shot was 1 size better that than lead. So your #2 steel is like a #4 lead. I would use a mod choke with #2 steel. Fact is that is what I did use. CB
  9. Use to make jerky out of them. Goldeyes mostly. Gave duck hunting a few years ago. Harder & harder to find a place hunt. There is a $500,000 house where we use to hunt on the river. CB
  10. Just asking about dog food. I'm seeing lots of ads for dog food-------talking about the ones for Science Diet, Iams, and a few others that trying market a dog food that days it's of a higher quality than most everyday brands. I think they are trying to make you feel a little guilty for not spending big $ on dog food. I was telling my wife that Purina has been feeding dogs for a long time. Everyone I know that uses it has a healthy pet & most live a normal life span. We use Purina One-----just wanting re-assurance that I'm not off base on my thinking. CB
  11. Vote with your feet.
  12. No big deal. I had all 4 of mine out at the same time. I went to an Oral Surgeon. Went back to work the next day. Only real pain was in a few days when I went back to remove the stitchs. CB
  13. Got my last load of winter firewood today. I can get thru with 4 cord but I get 5. I like a little insurance. It's all seating in the driveway-----plan on split & stacking next weekend. It's a mixed load this year-----aspen & spruce. The earthstove really keeps the house warm. I use a husqvarna 44 chainsaw that about 30 years old------just keeps on cutting. CB
  14. Why not cut one open & look ? With that said----O would only use them for practice. Go bust some clay birds. CB
  15. I used 180 grain round nose. Killed them with both "Core-lokt" & Win "PP" out of my 30/06. I shot them over bait in the spring @ 50 yards. If I could have found a box of 220 grain round nose I would have used them but the sporting goods store didn't have any so I went with the 180's. CB
  16. Nice bison------FYI-----You look good in the cowboy hat--- Ditch the ballcap. CB
  17. Check out the website-----I just goggled diamondj outfitters. Kevin was my guide. The 2 guys on the website with the moose are the owner & his son. They killed theirs a couple years after I went. I know they do bow hunts-------bugling during the rut. Get in shape---it's steep. You'll ride the horses up the creek drainage then hunt on foot.
  18. Try Diamond J------they hunt out of Big Piney. I drew a WY moose tag & hunted with them. Good guys. Good food, good camp with a hot shower. Saw quite a few elk. I'm assuming you want a horseback, pack in, rifle hunt. It may take a year to draw the tag. You can still buy a point up to Labor Day---I think. CB
  19. I don't understand what you are complaining about. Take me for example I didn't draw a unit 76 bull tag------not interested in shooting a cow----why shouldn't I beable to buy a 2nd season general bull tag now? As far as the Colorado resident drawing a deer or antelope tag within 300 miles of home--------Study the draw-----Lots of hunters & only a limited number of tags & animals. Or the other solution is to move to the western slope. CB
  20. Time for new tires on my F150. It has on it now P255/70R16. I use the truck for pulling my pop-up camper about 5 or 6 times a year. Firewood hauling about 5 or 6 times----hauls @ 1 cord for about 25 miles on National Forest gravel roads. Elk hunting again on National Forest roads & a little bit of 4 wheel drive road. The rest would just be general driving on pavement. Mileage would be @ 5000 miles a year. Sticker on the door has P255/70R16-----I think the LT would be LT245/75R16. No sure which one----I think P's then change my mind & think it will be the LT's. Which one do you think?
  21. NH moose is posted----no luck for me. CB
  22. Finger nail clippers, chapstick, Sounds crazy but make a port-a-pottie. I use some 2x4 & old plywood----1 holer & screw down a tiolet seat & lid on the top. I'm assuming your a truck camping-----if so forget the mtn man food stuffs. They are hard on my system. I use can goods lots of soup, spaghetti, etc. Thing you can just heat & eat. Last thing I like to do is cook after chasing elk around the mtn all day. I see your after antelope & deer-----that case you can prepare a good dinner & cook . Antelope are not a "hard" hunt-----so you won't be dog tired in the end of the day. Rolaids for sure. Moleskin. Rubber latex gloves for cleaning the game. A good cot & foam pad are a must.
  23. Sounds great----Looking forward to the photos & details of the hunt. Good luck on tag number 2. CB
