Long-term contract to keep Eury Jr. with DEI August 18, 2005 10:36 AM EDT (14:36 GMT) MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Dale Earnhardt Inc. announced Thursday that Tony Eury Jr. has signed a long-term contract to remain with the team. "Having such a loyal employee and talented crew chief like Tony as part of DEI on a long-term basis was an important objective for the continuity of our program," said Teresa Earnhardt, president and CEO of DEI. Currently the crew chief for Michael Waltrip, Eury Jr. previously was the crew chief for Dale Earnhardt Jr. However, despite a solid 2004 season in which Earnhardt qualified for the Chase for the Nextel Cup, he slipped in the final 10 races to finish fifth in points -- a two-position drop from '03. "I couldn't be happier," said Eury, a 14-year employee of the company. "I've spent many years with DEI and always planned to be for a long time to come. With all the outside distractions now behind us, we can focus on winning races." Before the season, DEI looked to bolster both of its Cup teams by swapping the crews of the Nos. 8 and 15, with Eury moving over to run Waltrip's team and Pete Rondeau leading Earnhardt's crew. The swap eventually led to Rondeau being replaced by Steve Hmiel as crew chief of the No. 8 team. Waltrip also has announced his decision to leave DEI at the end of the season, and speculation remains that Earnhardt and Eury could be reunited. "We'll let you guys worry yourselves about what we're going to do in the future," Earnhardt said after Waltrip's decision. "We're just going to concentrate on one week at a time. I think once we get to the end of the season, we'll have a real clear picture about of what might be the best for us to do." Entering Michigan, Earnhardt is 15th in the standings, 163 points behind 10th-place Carl Edwards in the Race for the Chase with four races remaining until the 10-race playoffs begin at New Hampshire on Sept. 18. Waltrip is 21st with no hope of making the Chase. For 2006 NASCAR competition, DEI plans to field the Nos. 1, 8 and 15 cars on the Nextel Cup Series circuit; and the Nos. 8 and 11 cars on the Busch Series circuit.

Aikman, Staubach say they'll run Cup car in '06 Owners strike deal with Gibbs, say team will run in Daytona 500 August 16, 2005 04:28 PM EDT (20:28 GMT) DALLAS (AP) -- Texas Instruments Inc. will be the primary sponsor for a NASCAR team run by former NFL stars Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach, who aim to have a car and driver ready for the Daytona 500 in February. Texas Instruments will announce Tuesday it plans to use the car to promote its DLP, or digital light processing, technology used in high-definition televisions. DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Though honesty is certainly the best policy, a guy in Troy Aikman's position wouldn't mind being lied to every now and then. True or not, a bit of reassurance that it'll all work out wouldn't hurt. "(NASCAR president) Mike Helton and everybody we've talked to have spent the early part of every conversation telling us why we shouldn't get involved," laughed Aikman. Company officials declined to give financial terms of the three-year NASCAR sponsorship, but primary sponsors on the Nextel Cup Series commonly spend $15 million to $20 million. Aikman, Staubach and veteran Trans Am Series driver Bill Saunders formed Hall of Fame Racing, which in turn reached a deal with Joe Gibbs Racing to provide cars, engines and personnel. One of the team's first jobs is finding a driver and crew chief. "We're going to have to fast-track it on some things, but we can put a team together and a competitive team,'' Aikman said. "Everything has come together in a positive way.'' Both former Dallas Cowboy quarterbacks went into the business world after winning five Super Bowl rings between them. Aikman owns a car dealership and Staubach runs a real estate firm. They have been trying to break into the racing game for about two years. They thought they had an agreement about a year ago with Hendrick Motorsports to provide cars and other gear, but the deal fell apart. Aikman said Hall of Fame Racing's car would run in both of next year's Nextel Cup Series races in Texas. He said he and Staubach were also looking for a sponsor for a second car. For Texas Instruments, NASCAR represents a new approach in the semiconductor company's effort to promote DLP, which more than a half-dozen manufacturers including Panasonic, Samsung and Toshiba use in HDTVs and home and theater projectors. DLP sets compete with high-end TVs made using plasma and liquid crystal display screens. Last year, Texas Instruments tried TV, radio and Internet advertisements in eight cities to convince TV shoppers to look for sets with DLP technology. Another round of advertising is planned in the coming weeks. "We had to find different ways to get our name out there,'' said Doug Darrow, the Dallas-based company's marketing manager for DLP. ``We were attracted to NASCAR because of the tremendous fan loyalty, the huge fan base and great (TV) ratings.'' NASCAR cars are known for flash and color, resembling high-speed billboards that promote everything from breakfast cereals to Viagra. Darrow said they hadn't settled yet on a design for the new car. "We are a technology company,'' he said, ``so we want it to look really cool.''

Re: The people who make a difference in your life [ QUOTE ] So true, and no, I didn't put him up to it. You think I teach because, selfishly, I want to be remembered by hundreds of kids who I was able to teach and make laugh--you bet your butt I do. [/ QUOTE ] The first two people I thought of were two of my teachers. So yes, they can have a lasting impact on a person's life.

Re: Steelers showed that they are a team the Astros/Pirates game that I went to last week had 4 members of the Steel Curtain defense throw out the first pitch(es). The only one I remember off hand was Mean Joe Greene. They were in Houston for one of the autograph signing card shows. -
Re: Baseball Gameday [ QUOTE ] Alright guys, I went with Vlad and Pujols. texastrophies, I needed fielders/dh's, not pitchers. Thanks for trying though, I should have been more clear in my original post. Thanks guys! [/ QUOTE ] LOL, I know what you needed, but that would not have helped me out any in the game, and I am needing all the help I can get.
-
Re: Baseball Gameday Since I am competing against you, I will bow out. Unless you want me to pick for you. If you do, here are two players for you. try BAL: Cabrera OAK: Haren They are the starting pitchers in their American League game. Shouldn't hurt your stats too much.

My son and I just got home from the Astros - Pirates baseball game. We got there during the Pirates batting practice and I caught a foul ball, Jake the got Morgan Ensberg's scribble on it, which just made his day. Morgan went on to hit a solo homer later in the game, also. I just missed catching another foul ball during the game, the guy three seats down from me caught it. BTW, the Astros ended up winning, by a 1 run I believe. Now for the price of free tickets to the game: Parking $10.00 2 - Nachos - $14.00 2 - 20 ounce cokes $8.00 2 - cotton candies $10.00 1 - Peanuts - $4.25 1 - water $3.75 total damage for free tickets - $50.00

Re: Qualifying ? Qualifying is tomorrow. Judging from their practice speeds, Tony will be on the pole and Jr. will be somewhere close to 43rd.

Re: Talk about a wreck... Thanks Chris, Like I said haven't seen it, but have heard quite a bit about, just not that part.

Re: Talk about a wreck... Haven't seen it, heard about it tho. The main question is, did anyone catch the ball? Let's not forget the important stuff.

Re: Punishment I think the worst punishment I got (to me) was when I would slam a door shut, my mom would make me stand there and hold the door knob for ever, probably only a couple of minutes, but it seemed like an eternity when I was wanting to go outside and do something. Of course, I got the spankings and groundings, but holding that darn door knob really stuck with me.
