I have a great wind for my one stand, I bet the deer will be moving good, but it is still raining. If I happen to get a shot at a deer, how should I track it? I don't want to jump down quick and start tracking, but I wouldn't want to push the deer, so what do you all suggest in case of a shot? Tomorrow I'll probably go after turkeys, it is so rainy and windy right now here that I think they are in the thick woods somewhere....

Re: Pumpkin-Headed venison...... that is rediculous. I hope they catch it and get the pumpkin off. I bet it was eating the pumpkin and got it stuck. We watched deer one time come into our neighbor's garden and start chowing down on the pumpkins!

ok, I have a lab from 1-4pm but I think we might get out early. I have a good wind for hunting one of our stands this evening and it is where there was a nice buck chasing some does Sunday night. It isn't snowing yet, still kind of raining, so I could go out to that field where I saw turkeys or just look for them in the woods. Should I deer hunt or turkey hunt? I'm leaning towards deer unless I see turkeys in the field....

Re: Turkey dilemma... Well I went up to that field, saw nothing in it. It was cold and pouring rain. I ended up getting cold and wet. no snow yet....I'm thinking the turkeys are just hiding out in the thick hemlocks somewhere in a little nook in the woods,lol. I'm trying to decide what to do next but any tips would be appreciated!

Hey you NY people, weh ave a winter storm watch for a bunch of counties in Western NY including mine! Late tonight and all day tomorrow, some places may see 6 inches of snow! You know what this means....great hunting! The turkeys go nuts with first snow falls...woohoo...The downside, I have to drive to classes in this junk,ugh,lol

Re: Turkey dilemma... Well it is raining right now and cold. When I get home today around 4pm, I'm going to go up and sit by that field. Should I do any calling or just sit tight, or should I run and gun, and try calling in different areas? Not sure what else to do....

Ok guys, I don't think I can go one more season without a turkey, it's killing me! Friday night I saw 4 out in a field that I frequently see turkeys in. It was cold and rained all day Saturday, no turkeys came out into the field. I went out this morning...saw nothing and heard nothing. I'm probably going to try for deer tonight but tomorrow after classes I'll go out after turkey. What should I do? I figure that if I keep sitting by this field, the turkeys will come out again at some point, but am I wasting time sitting there? Any ideas or suggestions? If I see the turkeys out in the field, I have a really good chance of actually sneaking up and ambushing them if the ground stays wet. They are either 3 hens or jakes and 1 gobbler or bearded hen. Please let me know your thoughts!

Here are some more photos from my trip to the High Peaks a little over a week ago. This was a neat creek we walked over. The water stayed amazingly clear after all the rain we had! Mt. Marcy, which we climbed the same day as this photo, and the tallest peak in NY, is the mountain in the back roun The body of water is Lake Tear in the Clouds,also about where the Hudson River begins. This is a pic of most of the people who came from my college on the trip. This was on top of Phelps Mt. I'm on the far right The guy third from the left with the long blond hair, he's my local flora/vegetation class professor,lol!
