Don't have a Hoyt anymore but having a QAD HDX put on my Elite...When I did have my Hoyt, had a NAP prong rest on it. I hear QAD and Trophy Taker are good. Shot a WB rest previously on my bow.

Went out this morning at 9am up to a small piece of land up the road a lady lets me hunt. I didn't hunt it the first week due to knowing she has some family that hunts as well. Set up on a small field edge by 9:30am. At 9:55am heard a gobble on the other side of the field, woohoo! He gobbled twice that was it. I sat an hour in my spot then moved to the other side of the field. I was probably there a 1/2 hour when I started hearing pppttthhhhh....pppptttthhhhh...I knew I was hearing a bird strutting. I peak through some bush leaves and down the field edge no more than a hundred yards I spot a hen, then there is his, strutting in all his glory! I had my hen and jake decoys out but was up slope of him so I don't think he could see it. Eventually they went into the woods....he gobbled once and that was it. I know right where they went in to! I yelped off and on and at 11:30am got up, since we can only hunt will noon, and went back up to check my trail cam on the way out. Well I get my cam, see there is a ton of scratching on the bank in the woods, decide to move my cam and as I'm walking back, I look out in the field, probably 150-200 yards out, about 50 yards right in front of where I was sitting I see a black blob, for sure it was a turkey and I suspect it was him! It was about 10 to noon then, man oh man! So I duck down and step behind a tree and look again, no black blob. So I hope he didn't spook to bad, being I was in the woods and he was way out in the field, I'm hoping he's ok, what do you guys think? I did get a photo on my cam of a big coyote...so maybe he thought I was that. Either way I will be back in the AM for sure, probably tonight sit on top of the hill and listen. The side of the hill is all scratched up so it looks like they are hanging around in there. The other side of the field inside the woods is an old pine plantation overgrown with briars so I suspect maybe his hen went to nest in there. I'm hoping he's ok spook wise.

Very true. Going to try a late morning hunt, try some spots close to home here, see if anything fires up. Then go out to another spot tonight, see if anything gobbles from the roost on it's own, not even going to bother with an owl hoot or anything on state land. -
Still waiting for the call.....getting antsy, lol! I'd rather it take longer and be good though!

to London, England and perhaps France! My mom went over there a few years ago before her brother passed, he lived in London and she was there and then they went to France. Since he passed, his friend there has come to visit us over the holidays. Mom talked to him the other day and wants us to come over. So next year I will get 2 weeks vacation and we are thinking probably September go over. Hoping I can find some hunting shops over there, lol:hammer1::cool2: Haven't even been on an airplane before....should be interesting!

Man, if I called in a jake, it'd be dead, lol! Good luck db! I'm torn between keeping hitting that spot I heard the one gobbler once on state land or trying elsewhere. -
Man oh man, went out last night, couldn't get any to sound off from the roost. Went back to the spot where I'd heard the bird on the opener...again nothing, silent as silent can be....any other NYers finding it quiet out there?
-
My bow is out getting a tune and new strings...I'm already anxious to get it back and shoot again! There is a 2 day 3D shoot I want to go to in June.
-
Great photos wooly! I wouldn't be able to find it in my heart to harm them....It's like the fox take our chickens and ducks...one year there was a bunch of pops in the road, sure I could have run them all over with the car but I couldn't....not intentionally. you definitely got to experience something not many others can!

Awesome bird dog!! Way to go!! -
To Catrina aka mrswtnhunt!! I hope it was a great day and ya didn't work too hard!
-
Yeah I'm figuring at some point he'll show up in that gas line...not sure if he does evening or morning but I'll keep on him. There was no one else in that area yesterday, the morning before when he was there, I was the only one initially, when I walked out at 10ish there was another car in the area but I didn't hear anyone calling...So unless he got shot somehow that day, my hopes are he was just tightlipped yesterday. Worked last night so didn't go out this AM but going to go check a trail cam in another spot and see....
-
Horrible morning...went back to same area, no even a gobble. Was there last night and thought I heard birds fly up, wasn't sure of exact area but no gobbling at all. then driving home, saw 2 guys coming out of some private land, one guy with a nice bird....man that made me a little sick. Work tonight and tomorrow night, may try another spot In the AM or else wait till weekend. Really miss my old stomping grounds.

Awesome bird strut!!! Hope I get me one of those this spring!
-
Well I dunno if it was the same bird or not but set up on a gobbling bird this morning who flew down and went silent except for a gobble here and there. Found where he flew down...an over grown old forest road...lots of tracks in the mud there and droppings, also droppings in the grassy gas line I was set up on. So tomorrow will set up on that road and see what happens.

I think I'll take my jake decoy and put it out with a hen....he looks like a boss bird for sure!
-
Gobbler that is...they don't get big by being dumb either. I went out this afternoon to check out a new spot on state land, got a tip about some birds in an area. Found some tracks in a grassy gas line. Decided to drive up and go down a dead end road that ends up going way back in the state land. what do you know I'm going along and see a turkey out in front of me, looked to be a hen, she scurries into the ditch at the same time I look to my left towards a grassy open spot in what looks to be an old pin plantation clear cut, and walking into the brush is a big old gobbler, red head, thick beard! Honestly I never would have though to find birds in this type of woods...it was basically on a ridge side and I think there is some hardwoods on the other side of the road where there were heading. So my thought is, unless I roost a bird elsewhere tonight, to go back early in the AM which is the opener, park away and walk down the road and hopefully hear him gobble off the roost then make my way into the woods. And if not, I'll work my way into there and stay in the vicinity. What do you guys think? Any other ideas? They didn't act horribly spooked, I think the hen crossed the road, and he walked into some brushy/briar area in the pines.

What are you replacing or upgrading this year?

Forgot to mention picked up a Kodak Playsport, already with a bowmount, to try and self film my hunts...we'll see, lol -
I'm getting a set currently from Stage I/Fury X Archery down in PA. Found him on the Elite Archery website, also on AT...heard nothing but great things! I sent my bow down vs to my shop....my shop is ok but I don't know how well I trust them re-tuning...

Still got my 11' Elite Hunter and love it! Might pick up a second bow next year and set it up for 3D/Hunting.

I'm already in the process, lol. My bow is down to a guy in PA for a new set of strings and a tune, having a QAD HDX rest installed also that I good for a good deal on AT. I also picked up a Kodak Playsport for a great deal off AT with a bow mount to boot so going to work on trying to video my hunts. Got a 1/2 doz. Beman ICS Hunter arrows for hunting season. Won a set of climbing sticks at a 3D banquet so will make use of those;) -
I'll have to see if I have a pic somewhere....My first buck was my second year hunting, shotgun season. Was standing just inside the woods edge watching a corn field, one man drive of a thick swamp. This 3 point came running out, stopped in front of my in the corn and I squeezed the trigger. Ran into the woods above me. Had snow so easy tracking job. Have the antlers on my wall still:)
